This is an amazing addition to the restaurant scene in Jacksonville. And to be honest, having been to whiskey bars across the country, this is one of the best whiskey places in the nation! Let’s start with the whiskey. The list is great: thoughtful, deep, but not overwhelming. Like any good place, get to know the bartender and /or owner and you’ll find some secret selections that haven’t(or won’t) hit the menu. Not familiar with whiskeys? That’s OK, they’ll help you through the list and find some nice choices. It’s rare you see a place like this that can please both novices and pros alike. For some places, it can be easy to overlook the food when there’s another big draw, but you’d be foolish to overlook the food here. It’s fantastic. I had the Houdini burger, with pork belly and Brie. If you’ve ever wondered what heaven tastes like, it’s the Houdini burger from Whiskey Jax! Overall this is a great place. It’s a definite, don’t miss, go there now and have a great time sorta place.

We visited this spot for brunch and it was okay. Went back for dinner once and I wasn’t so pleased. We will definitely try this spot again.

I was super excited to go to a new restaurant on Baymeadows Rd(finally!); however, the excitement did not last as soon as we sat to order at Whiskey Jax. The atmosphere/deco was quite cool looking and the stage in the middle seemed to promise some great entertainmemt. The waiter we had seemed to be a man of 3 words. He did not inform us of any specials, asked if we had questions about the menu, and sort of looked confused whenever I asked a question about a menu item. To be honest, I wondered if I was speaking English clearly(I am from the US). The service left much to be desired. Very disappointing. The food was below mediocre. We had the grilled Cajun Ranch wings. I did not want to inform my already agitated boyfriend(he’s wary of new restaurants) that chicken wings didn’t seem quite done, were fatty, and were not served hot. The blackened fish tacos were dry and not even decent tasting. There was nothing that brought the flavors together or made it extraordinary. The side of fries were soggy and room temperature when served. We waited 10 minutes after we finished eating for someone(not even our waiter) to bring out the check. To add insult to injury, it was Trivia Night and it was painful. Cool name, cool restaurant set up, but horrible food and service. Baymeadows Rd has failed in the new restaurant scene:(

We stopped in for early dinner. Our waiter was great. And we both order medium burgers and they were cooked perfect. Cant wait to come back. Want to try brunch one weekend.

So I decided to give this place a second chance because after my previous negative review the owner, Tom had reached out to try to make things right. They really did. First off the food was wayyy better than before. Good quality, well seasoned burgers that are well cooked and the flavors were spot on. I had the Martha’s Summertime Blues Burger with bacon, bleu cheese fondue and arugula. It’s served on a pretzel bun and was cooked to a perfect medium rare. The fries were hot, fresh and cooked to a perfect crispness, but not over cooked like last time. My wife had the shrimp tacos with mango salsa and absolutely loved them, she also had to get the fantastic Parmesan grits that was the standout from our last visit again too. Seriously, what a difference another visit made in turning me from an unhappy customer to one who’d happily come back again. Tom took care of us and made sure that things went way better this time. For that I say thank you!

We had to wait almost an hour to get our food. The waitress was friendly, but not attentive. We kept having to flag her down in order to get refills, the check, and a to-go box. It hit a point that either one of the other waitresses or possibly the manager started coming to our table to check if we needed anything. My parents ordered the Reuben and Pulled Pork over Grits, while I ordered the Dirty South Burger. The food was good, but I don’t think I’ll return due to the service. My recommendation, based on other people’s experience, is to go during lunch, when it is not crowded and the prices are better.

I love the citrus kale salad for just $ 3. That and a glass of wine for under $ 10 rocks plus they had the food network playing at the bar. A brave move !!!

Horrible, horrible, horrible service. We went to this place for a college football game and sat on the back patio. The only reason we didn’t get up and leave was because we were hanging out with friends. It took us 45 minutes to get drinks to our table and the waitress told us it would be faster if we went to the bar ourselves and paid cash. I had ordered a Sprite, not anything from the bar:/ It took about 2.5 hours for us to receive our food, during which time we all contemplated ordering to go from Outback Steakhouse across the street so we could eat. The food was actually delicious and not reflective of the service at all, which is the only reason they got a second star! A couple from the table walked on their bill after being there for 3 hours and the waitress showing up maybe once an hour to our table. Once the rest of the party paid(our bills ranged from $ 50-$ 75 per couple for food and drinks) and we were getting ready to leave, the manager and owner were brought out and wanted us to call the couple to come back and pay their bill. After management informed us their bill was $ 12, we laughed at them and told them about our horrible service and clearly, they had paid cash at the bar for all of their drinks after the first round. There were lots of excuses for the terrible service, but no apologies. Needless to say, they dropped the issue with the $ 12 and none of us have been back!

What a gem this bar is! I’m sad we waited till the last night of our vacation to stumble upon it! We were here on a Sunday night. At first the place was relatively empty, until the live band arrived. We were not planning on staying as long as we did, but the music was fantastic and the drinks on point so we wound up staying for a couple of hours! Our server, Samantha, was a riot! We loved her. She made great food recommendations and convinced us to try a ridiculously awesome piece of cheesecake at the end. Really attentive, but certainly not overbearing. We started with a Rye flight. I really enjoyed the Templeton Rye. The moment she found out my fiancé is really into scotch, she called over the Front End Manager, Reed. He’s awesome and incredibly knowledgeable about the extensive bourbon, whiskey, scotch menu. If you get a chance to talk to him, please do! The drink menu can be overwhelming, especially for someone like me who has an ‘idea’ what I like, but do not know many of the distilleries or classifications well… but this is a safe place to ask questions and get wonderful recommendations. Tom wound up finding a love for the Elijah Craig! ***My vote, try the Sazerac Cocktail.(Thanks Reed!)*** What can I say? The food was great. The drinks impressive. The live music was fantastic — what a fun band! Half the restaurant was up dancing… It was a really great night. I hope everyone gives this place a try.

We went Sunday to eat brunch/lunch. Our waitress was great and very attentive. My daughter had her heart set on chocolate milk so she found a way to make it with dessert chocolate syrup. The kids plates had plenty of food and the fries are delicious. I had the dirty south burger, it was amazing with the fried green tomato, the goat cheese, sauce and bacon jam! I really like the fact that you see the owner working. He was serving food, clearing tables, helping out wherever needed. I hope this restaurant has much success, based on the crowd Sunday I think they will be open for a long time.

I just have to say this is my fourth time here and the food just keeps getting better. They have a Saturday and Sunday brunch all you can drink bloody Mary’s if you want something different at a good price this is your place. Great drink selection and really good food from steaks to fish to sandwiches.

We went to Whiskey Jax to watch the Super Bowl and to eat some fatty, fried snacks. With TVs on every wall, it was a great place to watch a game. They also offered a $ 0.75 wing special for the event. They have several flavor options for the wings — cajun ranch, whiskey glaze, buffalo bourbon, tobago key peruvian gold, and a dry rub. We tried three of these options and they were food, but nothing special. The real issue was that one plate of wings wasn’t fully cooked… that’s a food safety issue. The manager was kind enough to remove it from the bill. The fries were good and the cheesecake was rich and heavy, as expected. Service was not the best, but that seems to be a common theme throughout the reviews. Our server was pleasant, but she was difficult to find when we actually needed something. Prices here were a little higher than what you’d expect from a bar/gastropub. While this is isn’t a place that I would return to on a frequent basis, it’s a decent place to watch a sporting event.

First things first, if I could give this place more stars I would. I came here for brunch this morning to celebrate a girl friends birthday. I’ve been here before but never for brunch, and I’m glad I did. There’s this breakfast café in Orlando called Keke’s Breakfast Café, and I’ve been looking for over a year to find a place similar to Keke’s in Jacksonville. I’ve been to places like Broken Egg, Mimi’s Café, and Metro Diner thinking that today will be the day I find the perfect Eggs Benedict, but no luck at all. Finally, my luck changed when I came to Whiskey Jax this morning. The Eggs Benedict was cooked to perfection; the English muffin was toasted just right, the Canadian ham was delightful and the poached eggs were on point. I also ordered the Elvis cakes; which was Pancakes with chocolate, bacon and bananas. Those was mouth watering pancakes. I’m a Jersey girl, so I’ve never been a grits fan. My fiancé ordered the Shrimp and Grits. Oh my god! It was simply heavenly. The texture of the grits was something I’ve never experienced with grits before. When I think of grits, I think of runny oatmeal and i think that’s why I’ve never liked it before. It almost had a mashed potato consistency. Mmmm, my mouth is just watering just trying to explain it LOL Overall, my experience here was awesome. I will definitely be back for more. I also forgot to mention, this place has $ 9 bottomless mimosas. What what! You definitely can’t beat that.

I really enjoyed Whiskey Jax! I would give them 5 stars, but it’s football season and they don’t have Sunday Ticket. I probably won’t be back until the season is over. But other than that, this is an awesome bar. It’s spacious, warm and inviting. The menu is really nice, it has more than typical bar food. On Sunday, they have a fun brunch menu and bottomless mimosas! The staff is extremely friendly and so are the regular customers. I enjoyed Whiskey Jax and will be back… after the season of course.

Came here for an FSU gamewatching party. Drinks were really cheap which is always a plus! We were told it might take hours to get a table but really only had to wait 20 minutes and we had a prime location inside to watch the game. Only downside to watching games here is the TV’s aren’t that big. I love wings and my friends and I got 40, 4 different flavors. The best by far was the datil pepper, the one I liked the least was the buffalo. I think it’s called bourbon buffalo, or something that sounds fancy but it’s basically just buffalo which I’m not a huge fan of. Also got the mozzarella sticks, which were good, and the truffle fries which were decent.

Nice place with a nice vibe. We’re visiting Jacksonville and decided to come here based on the reviews and we made the right choice. Our waiter was friendly and very knowledgeable about the menu selection. I ordered the Fried Chicken and Parmesan Grits and it was so good. It had a lot of flavor. My husband had the Houdini Burger and he couldn’t get enough of it. The waiter was able to recommend the best way to order it and he enjoyed it thoroughly. We didn’t order any drinks because we weren’t in the mood but I’d like to try a drink or two. We’ll probably go here again before we leave…

Very unassuming gastro pub with a great menu and decent service would be my description. The blue cheese balsamic chips were out of this world. I’m a blue and balsamic fiend so that made me happy. The hottest wing option left me a little underwhelmed, despite the zaftig portion. The ranch and blue cheese sauces left me wanting more they were so tasty. I had the chicken pear Brie sandwich with fries and my dining partner had the chefs burger which I think had an over easy egg, bacon tomato jam, bacon and arugula with Brie. Tbh, the toppings sounded good in theory but weren’t executed harmoniously as they could be. Huge chunks of Brie(with rind/casing) that didn’t melt made the grilled chicken kind of wet and cold like the pears. I mean a few thinner pieces might have helped pull it off. The fries were hand cut or cut in house and tasted pretty greasy and lacked seasoning. Double fried, maybe? I hate complaining but the apple cobbler desserts saving grace was the boozy flavor. The crumble was very oily and grainy unfortunately. I hate to complain in reviews but hope to try and re-visit to give it another go. Maybe the crew will have a tighter execution of the items we tried.

My first visit to Whiskey Jax was… unremarkable? The setup was nice, the vibe/service was good but I just wasn’t blown away by the food. I ordered the WJ burger(Mixed greens, tomatoes, red onions, whiskey pickles, peppercorn aoli, and cheddar cheese served on a brioche bun) without the cheese so maybe I just ordered wrong? The burger wasn’t bad, it just wasn’t especially impressive. Last week I visited for the second time and had a great experience. We tried quite a few items and my verdict on my first visit is that I absolutely ordered wrong the first time. We started with the bold city beer cheese soup and it was the best beer cheese soup I’ve had. Typically beer cheese soup is way too heavy and rich for my tastes but this version is on the lighter side and perfectly flavored. And how can you go wrong with a soup topped with Parmesan popcorn?! Easily one of my favorites of the night. My other favorite was the avocado fries. The breading was light and didn’t overpower the avocado at all. The sauces it was served with are the perfect compliment. This is on the menu as an appetizer but I’d be happy to have it for a meal(it’s also on both their happy hour and late night menus). We also had the seared tuna(again, an appetizer that I would happily order as an entrée). The seasoning wasn’t my favorite but I enjoyed it. We also tried a newer menu item, the truffle ribeye with truffle butter, spinach, sun dried tomato, Parmesan risotto(from their Facebook so the menu description might be a little different). I was so full by this time I only managed a few bites but the seasoning was great. I really enjoyed the risotto(one of those things I tend to hesitate to order since a lot of places can’t pull it off). Very tasty, great flavor and nicely cooked. To finish things off we had the Fireball apple cobbler. I have a weird thing about cooked fruit/fruit as dessert so the cobbler part wasn’t for me but the fried ice cream on top was fantastic. I love that Whiskey Jax is open so late(2 a.m. every night) and has so many happy hour, late night, ladies’ night, etc. deals. They have live music 6 night s a week, too. It has the feel of a place you’d go to in Riverside/Avondale/5 Points in this area, which is nice.

After seeing some food pics floating around for this place I knew I wanted to give it a shot. While I enjoyed my dinner to an extent, I definitely wouldn’t order the Stuffed Chicken again. It was however good enough to get me to come back and try something else. The Bangin’ Shrimp appetizer was delicious though. I’m thinking Brunch would be a good idea.
