This little vintage hidden gem in Murray Hill carries some pretty RAD pieces. The owner, Marina(along with her mother) really has a great eye for beautiful vintage furniture and accessories & Marina is super approachable. Her father also makes some of the wonderful wood display pieces that are used in the shop and for a price – can be yours. I mean it never hurts to ask, right? You may miss it so keep your eyes open. Mara(named after Marina’s grandmother) Vintage Shop is a small narrow shop with street parking that carries a lot of mid-century items as well as other eras that I really dig. The shop boasts of very cool and eclectic furniture and home décor that’s both functional and aesthetically pleasing. Some of the wood pieces are outstanding and truly one of a kind. She finds a lot of her inventory at estate sales and for the overall condition, everything is reasonably priced considering we’re shopping for vintage pieces here. I have my eye on two specific items in her store so I know I will be back. My only worry is, «Will they still be there by the time I return?» Maybe, maybe not. One thing to consider is that she also sells on Ebay for much more $$ than in her store so she can definitely get more than her asking prices in her shop. This is certainly a place to visit often and if you have the money, don’t hesitate to purchase. Adorable selection and great customer service! 5STARVINTAGELOVE!

I read a few other reviews and let’s start this off by saying, this is a vintage store NOT a thrift store. Meaning the prices are going to be higher than thrift stores. This is a great addition to Murray Hill and I’m glad they took a risk to adding to an up and coming neighborhood. The next time you’re out and about looking at vintage shops, add Mara to your list.

Newly-opened shop. Interesting knick-knacks, furniture, and clothing. I didnt find anything today, but this looks like the kind of place where stock will turn over quickly, so I’ll certainly be stopping by again.

I stopped into Mara on my way home from Riverside Arts Market. It is located just across the street from the Murray Hill Theatre, and I had not noticed it until today. I believe it is a family run business, as I took the lady at the counter and the woman wandering about to be mother and daughter. They were very nice. It is more of a vintage shop than a thrift shop. The prices are pretty steep, so if you can afford it, they have a pretty awesome selection. There were a few dresses that were definitely in my price range, but just not my size, as well as a plethora of other items that I wanted to take home with me. Vintage clothes, shoes, luggage, shabby chic furniture, and I even saw an old filing cabinet that had been modified into a bookshelf. There was an awesome pair of Doc Martens, that were obviously second-hand, but they were still selling them for $ 125. A lot of the second-hand type items had prices almost equivalent to buying the product brand new, which was rather irksome. I hope they can start doing some price comparisons to see that for themselves.
