I’m there for breakfast every week on my days off, love my pan con mantequilla(Cuban bread with butter) and my Cuban coffee… I’ve tried almost everything there, perfection in every way! The sweets glass case hits you when you walk in and guaranteed you’ll be hooked…

On my search for the best cannoli in Jax, I think I found a place that is close. When I walked in I couldn’t believe all the yummy desserts to choose from. Of course I got the cannoli and a empanada with guava filling and a mango shake. The shake was creamy and delicious. The empanada was sweet and very tasty. The cannoli was near perfect. Half of it was covered in chocolate and had enough chocolate chips in it. My only issue was there were no prices and some of the menu items were in Spanish so I didn’t understand what else they had to offer. Definitely want to go back and try the Cuban sandwich.

I stumbled upon this place only a few months ago. EVERYTHING I have had from here has been delicious! Love the café con leche, cortadillo, I have had the empanadas, croquettes & Cuban bread with butter, but the main reason I am writing this review is about the cakes, They are beautiful. I ended up ordering a cake for my daughter’s sweet sixteen birthday(I ordered a small one to have in addition to the main cake) but I should not have hesitated to order a larger size) it was delicious! &BEAUTIFUL, everyone wanted that cake, not a piece of it is left, they have a very talented baker on hand. I suggest instead of reading reviews give them a try. In South Fl,(I am from Key West-Miami area,) this would be a typical small bakery. I haven’t tried any of the cookies yet, but for typical coffee, bread & cakes this is now my go to place! I go in there sometimes just to take pics of the beautiful cakes…

Dispite this place being over priced and no price stated anywhere I still came here 3 times in 2 weeks and my 3rd visit was my last and I will never return. I order a bunch of things every time I come because I don’t live close by and this is the only Cuban bakery place in Jax. They have good stuff but not as great as Miami or Orlando but still good. So on my last visit I go home and notice they didn’t give me everything I ordered so I call them and the lady remembered me and tells me to come back. Once I go back she tells me she didn’t charge me for the flan cakes I ordered and I asked to know the prices of all the things I ordered(I bought the package of all the things I had ordered) and the other lady that was there got really defensive and stared accusing me of what if I already ate some and I had come 1 or 2 in the afternoon and now(7pm) I came asking for prices. Note that I had just came and went home in 5 o’clock traffic and came back. This place is ridiculous because she was still not able to give me the prices of all the things properly. She told me one of the cake was $ 3.95, and I specifically remember the last time it was $ 2.95. This place is good but not good enough to pay $ 3.95 for a small slice of cake. They are shady with prices and absolutely unprofessional. Another customer next to me was telling me the same issue about their prices and the same lady who accused me of coming back hours later and eating from the package got in between the conversation with the other customer and basically told me to stop taking to the other customer and will give the flan cake for free(yes now she wants to give me the cake for free) meanwhile there were other customers who heard the issues with their prices and left, so if you guys don’t want to get ripped off then avoid this place. I barely give anybody bad rating but this place I would give a –5star if I could.

Somewhat rude over the phone and in person Somewhat large selection Flan, tres leches etc Prices are somewhat expensive for Cuban pastries and desserts The flan was curdled and horrible A burnt taste of the caramel The natilla pudding was not good either I lived in Miami and was excited to find a Cuban bakery but it’s more pricey and not good ! What a shame

I’m from Miami and it’s been a while since I’ve had Cuban pastries unless I visit which I don’t get to often. All the pastries me and my husband have bought have been delicious and fresh. Even my family that’s lived in Miami for most of their lives have been very impressed with the quality. My Spanish isn’t great but they were patient and kind. Sure it’s pricey but it’s a rare find. I don’t know what half the stuff is either but it all looks delicious. The complaints on here sound like they were written by spoiled brats. I definitely recommend trying this place.

We are a kind of regular to this place, after living in Puerto Rico for 7 years I had the opportunity to try some good cuban food. My usual orders are the ‘media noche’ sandwich with the small coffee(cortadita. not sure if thats how its written), we have tried different pastries, which are good, I don’t find it exceptional. The only thing that prevents me from going more often is the price, although I think the ingredients are better than fast food sandwiches, $ 7-$ 9 for a sandwich only, for me is little pricey. One thing that ticks me always and I agree with few reviewers is that there is no price anywhere, I understand that if you service fresh ingredients it may vary, but come on, the price is a convenience for the customers, you don’t have to keep on asking the price. Not sure if it’s a business tactic where you just order and then get surprised on the price, nevertheless it’s a good clean place to eat with reasonable customer service.

I went here after a coworker of mine said something. We went as an office and tried a bunch of different things. We were concerned about the other reviews of bad customer service but they did not experience that! I had the strawberry cheesecake and it was divine! My coworkers were also pleased with what they had! I will be going back to try more from their menu!

My sister has always RAVED how amazing the Café con Leche at Kathy’s Bakery was so I was dying to try it for myself! Today I made another office run for baked goods to bright up a dreary Thursday morning. While other reviewers have complained that the employees were curt and cold, I found our cashier very pleasant with a bright smile. Everything I ordered or tried was, «GOOD but not the *best* I’ve had before» with the exception of the Cannoli. Both the Café con Leche and the Guava Cheese Empanda hit the spot but didn’t make me want to run back for more. However, The Guava Cheese Empanda was VERY flaky and I made a happy mess all over my desk. The knockout pastry out of our choices was the Chocolate Mousse filled Cannoli! I REGRETTED not ordering this myself! While I typically don’t care for Cannoli’s, the Mousse was angelically fluffy, chocolaty, and the outer shell a perfect combination of crunch with a soft texture! I would give Kathy’s Bakery and Café 4 stars except for the same complaints everyone else has stated. There’s no real menu with PRICES anywhere so you have no idea how much you’re going to pay until you check out. That being said, I’d gladly go again though and try out their Cuban sandwiches!!!

I liked every cake and empanada… just there is no price tag for cakes so you have to ask the price but seemed like only an owner knows the price not the cashier so. I have no idea how it works. anyways if you like sweets you really need to try!

This hidden gem of a café is a small sweet spot conveniently located off Southside Blvd. Your pallette will be delighted with authentic Cuban sandwiches and pastels, flans. It’s café style seating. My pan con lechon sandwich is delicious, homemade milkshakes and café con leche con pan. Truly authentic,(we’re from Miami) this is heaven away Havana.

After passing by Kathy’s Bakery numerous times, I finally stopped in to order some lunch and sweets. I enjoyed a cuban sandwich, cannoli, honey cake, guava empanada, and a Cuban coffee. I loved everything! The café is small and minimal and very clean. The dessert case stands out when you walk in, it inspired me to order 3!(I took them home and enjoyed them all week) Service is indifferent, but I’m not picky about that as long as the food is good, which it is! If I pass by again, I would stop!

I am surprised this shop is still around. My husband and I purchased something from this bakery when it first opened up. Like what most reviewers said, there were 2 women working behind the counter who had an attitude, didn’t speak or understand English, none of the food were labeled or priced. We purchased something that looked familiar to us, I think it was some kind of a turnover. When we got inside our car, we tried the product, it was hard and very stale. I was shocked that someone would have the audacity to serve this to the public and get away with it. Maybe if you’re in a third world country this is an acceptable practice(I am talking from experience). Needless to say we never went back. I don’t think they even deserved a one full star!!!

Kathy’s Bakery is the only Cuban bakery you’re going to find in Jacksonville! With that said I’m glad it’s not that far from my house:-). It kind of reminds me of all those Vicky Bakery’s that I used to frequent with my friends when I lived in Miami:-). Kathy’s Bakery is located on Beach Blvd. in the same little plaza as Rex the Beach Blvd. Dinosaur. They have all sorts of baked goods as well as Cuban coffee(expresso) and café con leche. They have freshly baked Cuban bread, croquetas in both ham and chicken, guava pastries as well as cheese and meat pastries. They have an assortment of cakes and pastries by the slice behind a glass case, my favorites are the cappuccinos and the brazo gitano. On top of that they make fresh to order Cuban sandwiches and sell pernil! This is one bakery that definitely does things right:-).

Decided to stop by today with my husband and mother-in-law(who don’t speak any spanish at all). At first sight they pastries looked gorgeous! I was so excited cause it felt like bakeries back home. Unfortunately the customer service was horrible. No prices and no description of their desserts? I’m sorry we can’t tell the difference between coffee and caramel. I politely suggested the 2 ladies working there that they should put names and prices, just to receive a smart ass answer and I quote: «if they really want to know they can ask us»…Well I’m sorry after a long day we don’t feel like asking a description of 30 different pastries! And by the way you should be targeting your product to all races and ethnicities… not just Spanish. just in case you want to suceed. Long story short I took my money somewhere else. Rude!

Kathy’s Bakery is a Cuban establishment. They have beautiful displays of their desserts and pastries. Nice and clean. Nice location. If you don’t speak Spanish, good luck trying to figure out what your actually looking at. Not all their desserts are labeled so again, your guessing what you are looking at, which would not make a different b/c again it would most likely be written in spanish. Also they don’t have any of the items marked, price wise. So you don’t know how much you are going to pay until they tell you your total. Now the items I did order were very good. I had a croissant and some type of apple turnover thingy. Both were good. When I ordered the croissant they put it on a press and warmed it up. Other than that I had the feeling they didn’t want to be there or that if you don’t speak spanish you are sh*t out of luck. Might give it another try. The food looks really good!

I have eaten here many times and I will not order their pastries. I will only order their tostadas, Cuban café con leche and their Cuban sandwiches. Only because I know their pressed sandwiches are fresh. Their food is overpriced and they have no prices listed, so you never know how much you’re going to pay for everything until they cash you out. Sometimes I never know if they’re making up the prices as they go along. The lady tends to have an attitude sometimes, and they don’t like to always talk in English. I think they actually import everything from Miami(don’t quote me) from a conversation I had once with the owner, so maybe that’s why the food is stale, but again don’t quote me. You’re better off getting your pastries from publix, but they make a good Cuban sandwich here.
