I love Lauren. She is such a genuine person– someone who makes you want to blurt out all of your insecurities and tell her about your bad day, because you know she won’t think any less of you and will listen with true interest. What’s more, she does an incredible job with cut and color. I have been both a redhead and a brunette in recent years, and she made both look natural and full of dimension. I have always had very fragile hair that was impossible to grow out, but under her care, it is now the longest and healthiest it has ever been. For all of these benefits, I happily payed $ 150 a visit for a cut and color that included a half dozen or so highlights to make the color look more natural. But suddenly, a few months ago, my appointment cost went up to $ 230 with no warning and no changes to the services performed. On top of that, they have begun booking the stylists for full cuts while your color is processing. Obviously, a cut takes longer than a color process, so I often sit an entire hour between color application and my cut, with someone else running over to rinse my hair. For $ 230 or even $ 150, I expect attentive spa-like service. Instead, I often wait for at least a half hour past my appointment time and then wait for the cut, extending my total time for a cut and color to 3 – 4 hours. I am really torn about this salon, because I really love my hair and Lauren is the best stylist I’ve ever had(and I used to live in Boston), but I just can’t pay $ 230 every 6 weeks for my relatively low maintenance color(brown) and cut(medium-long straight hair).

This salon not only gave me nothing for 200 dollars and told me I needed to come back for a second appointment. The environment is highly rude for no apparent reason. She shooed me out of my 200 dollar appointment saying she needed to close up. I left with wet hair after waiting an hour and half with a scheduled appointment.

Wow. Sarah is a truly talented stylist with both color and haircuts. My last highlight was a buttery, clean, multidimensional blonde with the perfect balance of neutral, gold, and ash. It’s tough to get a good neutral-golden blonde right without it looking brassy or unnatural but she delivered in spades. Best part is, the highlights blend with my natural hair seamlessly so they grow out beautifully. If that wasn’t enough, she also delivers a mean haircut. Blended, bouncy, meticulous. When you think of «the perfect haircut» this comes pretty close in my mind. Subtly layered and fluid without having choppy, obvious layers. She manages to do all that while maintaining healthy, blunt-ish ends… no wispy/feathery ends here. Thanks for the best highlight AND the best haircut ever!

Truly a 5 star place. The time I was buzzed in the door I felt like I was family! It was a mommy /daughter day, my teenager daughter has finally found a place that knows how to give her a grown up look but still youthful fitting her age. We live in Indiana mainly & jax is our second home. We now travel more to jax just to get our hair done here. If your looking for celebrity style hair this is the place to be!

I have had many many stylists over the years around the world — some were good some were terrible. This was the absolute best yet!!! At Cecil’s I had the best haircut and color I have ever had. Sarah was my stylist when I had my hair cut and colored and she always asked what I wanted and gave suggestions, but definitely cared and listened to what I had to say. For my wedding, Lauren did my updo — absolutely loved it and she did exactly what I wanted. Both are fantastic and I would recommend this salon to anyone wanting somewhere peaceful, professional and welcoming. Stephanie greets you with a smile and they always offer you something to drink, good conversation if you want or a relaxing read of the magazines on offer. The place has character — not your run of the mill salon. I will say — it is pricey but worth every penny! They don’t push the products but they have great products on offer. Sadly, I have relocated, but if I am ever back in Jax, I will certainly call ahead for an appt.

I went to this salon months ago, I went with a stylist named Abigail, and I was very pleased she took the time to listen what I wanted done with my hair. I went to a stylist for years before who never really listened or cared what I wanted only did the usual stuff that she said«worked for me». It wasn’t an easy task getting the years of red out of my hair, but I didn’t want to have red hair anymore I wanted to be more towards my natural. A few visits and I was back at my natural with my hair as healthy as ever. Needless to say I’m very happy I tried this salon, and I love my hair now!

Finally, I’ve found a great salon in Jacksonville! The atmosphere here can not be beat, it’s beyond beautiful and relaxing. It’s inside of an old carriage house-but it’s huge, so some serious carriages must have been stored there. You’re greeted with a beverage and smock, and then taken to your chair. The stylist who I worked with, Heather, was kind and sociable, and knew exactly what to do with my extremely limited understanding of hair. She did a fantastic color job and suggested ways to achieve my desired end result. I’ve got curly hair, and if you do as well, go see her! I always have a terrible time finding people who know what to do with curly hair, and she did a fantastic job shaping it and bringing out the bounce in flatter areas. Very pleased, will be back. The only way it could have been better was with a glass of wine;-) Oh! And I can’t believe I almost forgot to mention the proprietor’s wife who runs the joint, she is fantastic and goes out of her way to make you feel welcome!

I have been going to this salon for nearly two decades — first as a teen who saved my pennies to make sure cutting my nearly waist-length high school hair into the 90s pixie cut was done properly. Now in my 30s, and having relocated back to Florida from NYC, I fully appreciate their consistent, quality talent who truly listen to the client’s needs. I can’t tell you how many times they have had to FIX what other salons(due to location issues) have done to my hair — even the ones that Stephanie took time out of her day to explain step-by-step what color and developer level to use via telephone! I LOVE this place. Cecil and Stephanie are dedicated professionals that care about their business and I never walk out of there without celebrity-quality hair.

I was a loyal Cecil’s client for years prior to my departure from Jacksonville. Ronny was my stylist and I would NEVER go anywhere else. They took an old English style house and turned it into a unique space filled with amazing jewelry and actually stocked their salon/hair studio with products that you won’t really find anywhere else in Jacksonville. (At least not up until a little over a year ago) Cobblestone, exposed brick and wood beams, cozy cozy cozy. Lisa was awesome and I always loved that you had to be buzzed in to enter. Costs for services were always priced right and I would leave looking a thousand times better than I did when I walked in. All of the stylists there really seem to understand and master hair design– and aren’t just recent high school graduates who decided to take up ‘hair cutting’. Sad to say, but unless a multitude of amazing salons have opened since I’ve left Florida, Cecil’s is/was probably one of a select few places that would ever make it should they opt to open a location outside of Jacksonville. *Or the South for that matter.
