Tavern On 1st Street

Another stop on the Putt & Crawl at Jacksonville beach. Came in and found two spots at the bar. The drink specials were great. We ordered Cranberry and Vodkas and they tasted really good and were nice and strong. Service as always was nice, polite and timely.

Fun place to drink on the strip. Has a nice open dance floor. You can smoke inside and out. Connected to another bar but you have to pour your drink in a plastic cup. Usually go in here after shim sham or if it’s pack. It’s free to get in. Drinks are fairly cheap. They have a few pool tables and nice dj booth with a screen.

Was the designated driver for a group of friends and a bouncer walked up to me and told me to leave for being too drunk. Worst bar in JAX

Awesome place! Tiffany was the best bar tender me & my husband have ever met! And not hard on the eyes at all! My favorite place to grab a drink in town!

First visit. Super fun place. Im prior industry/​hospitality biz so i can recognize great service under pressure. The bar is super busy but the bartenders still come by and empty my ash tray and get me a refill asap. Haven’t seen team work like this behind the bar in years. Bravo to the Tavern :)

They have decent specials on Sunday and they have fun things to do such as corn hole indoors, but one drawback (at least for me) is that you can smoke inside.
When we walked in you could really smell the cigarette smoke and it was kind of overwhelming. If that kind of thing doesn’t bother you than check this place out.
They do card at the door as well, although there wasn’t a cover charge or anything like that to get in.

After reading some of these reviews, I’m realizing dress codes are enforced when they want them to be enforced. Not only are there harsh dress codes, but the people at the door couldn’t be more rude. And to be clear, I didn’t come in trying to wear inappropriate, skin-​revealing clothing. My boyfriend actually couldn’t go into the bar wearing camo shorts on the 4TH OF JULY. I’m sorry, but what?
The only people coming here are people who haven’t been there before. No happy at all, and apparently not many others are either. That’s definitely telling you something.

I will never go back to the club again. Last night i was kicked out for no reason at all. When I asked why he was kicking me out he said «I told your friends to stay off the pool tables» I asked him what did that have to do with me I just walked over there he told me to leave his club.

Nice bartenders but selectively enforced dress code. Once I was told I couldn’t come in because my cargo shorts were camo even though guys are in there with camo shorts on, tank tops, flip flops and shirts with holes in them. I’m new in town so I figure some odd rule or dress code starts at 8 or something. Tonight I’m told nonwhite t-​shirt even though I’ve worn one in there before on a weekend even later at night. So I can’t get into a dive bar and spend money while wearing a Rolex and a nice white v neck shirt, not an undershirt but a v neck t shirt that happens to be white. Again people are dressed horribly in there.
It’s too bad because the bartenders are always great to me and I like to spend money in there because the bar tending staff is cool. Probably going to have to move on from this place I can’t keep guessing what I can wear and it seems to be changing. We are at the beach and we are not in LA or New York.

I am very surprised with all the bad reviews! I’ve never had a bad time at this place; the service is a little slow but they only staff two bartenders usually at this big place which is management’s fault. I’ve never had a problem with the bouncers here but I have at other places; unfortunately all the beach bars particularly have a bad reputation for rude bouncers. My favorite thing about the Tavern is the music/​large dance floor and the express happy grilled cheese tucked away in the corner. This is a good place to go to during the day after a day on the beach or a fun bike ride around town because it’s still alive with good music and it’s not super packed.

This is the worst place I’ve been to in Jax Beach.

The bouncers are on a major power trip. Probably bc they’ve never gotten any. Also extremely racist. They let a white guy in in a plain t shirt then did not let a black guy in bc he was wearing a tshirt. The second guy looked better than the first. This type of discrimination should not be happening this day and age.

Never spending my hard earned money at this trash hole again. I went on a Friday night and was told by the door man that I couldn’t come in because I was wearing camo cargo shorts, at the beach how dare I! When I didn’t hear what he said I asked what did you say about cargo shorts? To which he replied if you’re going to give me attitude I wont let you in. See ya tavern, a terrible bar with terrible employees. I’d rather hang at mangoes because at least I won’t get hassled for wearing shorts… at the beach.

Nothing about this place resembles a tavern!!! Looks like club O with pool tables.

I’m not a fan of indoor smoking at all. I came here at the end of the night with my friends who wanted to play pool so I stuck around. The drinks were cheap and the music wasn’t bad. So, if you’re into these types of bars– go for it!
