This place could use a bathroom. The menu could use more/better side dishes. The burgers could use more original and creative toppings. Still, I give it 5 stars because these are among the best burgers I have ever had! The meat thickness is perfect– enough to have volume, but thin enough so that a bunch of grease doesn’t linger and the outsides over cook before the insides are done. I beg the owners to reach out to Slow Jams in Detroit. Acquire their red pepper jelly, and put it on your burger! I will worship you.

I heard great things about this place but when i went i didnt see the big deal its really tiny and dirty. The burger had no flavor i also ordered onion rings thought it would be hand homemade i was wrong they are are frozen store bought. Only positive was the waitstaff very Friendly. Tons of negatives, looks dirty, no debit/credit, and fries/onion rings are frozen.

Very small hamburger establishment. Friendly smiles and quick service. Burger was juicy and plump. Can soda, no refills. Will be coming back.

Amazingly delicious and filling. Small little dining area so very crowded during lunch hour. They are cash only so just a heads up ;)

The soup Nazi equivalent burger shop, burgers were pricey for what you get. Unless you have to have a burger, go to Chilangos down the street for Mexican.

Really? Ordered two cheeseburgers a large fry, and a can of soda. If you grew up eating these I understand the nostalgia, If you from out of town don’t waste your«time. The burgers were dry and tasteless. They must not season the beef when frying on the flattop. A little salt on the fries would have helped them. Burgers should be juicy…

Old style burgers are as advertised. Can be a bit chilly on a cold day. Love the caulifbuds. A small order was plenty. Everyone in our group was happy with their lunch. We would come back on occasion. Be sure to go early for lunch because they only seat 15.

This is my favorite greasy spoon burger in Jackson. All of the ingredients for a class A burger joint including fresh meat, fast service for a fair price.

Five stars for this burger. Yes it has the nostalgia factor but the proof is in the burger itself. This burger is clearly made with high quality beef. It sort of crumbles a little on the bun, which let’s you know there’s no cereal by product holding it together. The single burger is 2.50 and it’s perfectly filling. The fries were good too. Pass on the onion rings as they were not homemade. They tasted fine but not as good as the ones at Cherry ’ s restaurant. However Cherry burgers just don’t hold a candle to Schlenkers. Don’t miss this place.

It was one of the most unappetizing burgers that I have ever had. Very greasy and the onion rings were not fried all the way and left still hungry.

A perfect burger in a mid Michigan urban neighborhood setting. Cash only. No restrooms. Best bun I’ve ever had. Burger was seasoned and cooked perfectly. #7 in Michigan 2013. It beat #1 in my book. Delicious! We went out of our way and it was worth it.

Can’t remember this last time I drank a coke from a can! I thought about the straw option, but just couldn’t bring myself to do it! On a nice cool day, open windows, nice breeze, burgers in the grill, and an ice-cold Coca-Cola in my hand… Welcome back childhood! After looking around I figured I could handle the Bacon Double Cheese burger! I was asked if I wanted pickles(dill) or relish(sweet), you tell em what you want in it, not what to take off. As I looked from my bar stool at the tiny menu I noticed the cook with a large pan of hand pressed balls of homemade hamburger! He threw them on the grill and squashed them completely flat, but they were still flavorful. My burger was served on wax paper(as it should be in burger heavens) and I had an order of fries. With this much homestyle, I expected to see an Ore Ida bag of crinkle cuts, but alas, it was not to be! The fries were nothing to write home about, but they did have ketchup on the counter and the waitress offered me malt vinegar… SCORE! I could put this concotion on shoe rubber and win! This is a friendly locals place(and they could tell I wasn’t)… it only has about 10 barstools surrounding a bar, and about 3 picnic tables outside… so you gotta be friendly! The parking lot and surrounding streets were full, so you know it’s gotta be good! Clearly a local favorite… I’m sitting at 4.5 because of the fries… but overall lean toward the illustrious 5STARS!

As awesomely tasty as the burgers here are, the experience is also on a level worthy of a visit(may not be mobility friendly, however.) Come here for a greasy-spoon old-fashioned burger joint experience. One of the few quaint gems of an experience that Jackson has to offer. It is perfect for lunch, and inexpensive to boot! Oh — and you can always chat up with the friendly wait staff. I wish my current city had a place like this — I would go everyday for lunch!

MMM Schlenkers makes a goooood burger. There are a couple of picnic tables out front for seating, as well as a handful of stools along the counter inside this tiny restaurant. I met some friends here for lunch over the weekend, being from out of town I didn’t know what to expect… When we arrived, most of the stools were taken, but a few emptied quickly giving the three of us room to sit down with our other two friends who were already there. True, we were monopolizing nearly half the seating in the place, but we were paying customers and nobody batted an eye. I ordered a double with cheese, bacon, onion, lettuce, tomato, ketchup & mustard… it was delightful. The fries were volcanic hot when they arrived, of course with the fryer less than 10 feet away that’s not surprising, but use caution. I’m not a fan of mushrooms, but I hear the fried mushrooms are amazing. Basically they’re breaded and deep fried, like an onion ring, but whole not sliced… If you’re a health nut, steer clear, nobody wants to hear you complain that the deliciousness served here isn’t good for you. Otherwise, go. Go now. Bring your appetite, bring some patience(might take a bit to get a seat), and bring cash — they don’t take anything else.

Old school defined. I have been going here since I was barely old enough to sit on the stools. Did I mention there are only stools, and even then only about 12 of them. Great burgers off an old well seasoned grill. Not plates, just your burger on wax paper. Fries are good and portions are shall we say generous. Follow the previous reviews statement order your condiments separately or you will get the«everything» which is a mustard-y. relish-y, onion-y concoction. Oh yeah, save room for pie. Only open lunch til about 7pm. Cash is king.
