South End Cafe

It really doesn’t get much better than this if you’re traveling through the Lake Champlain Islands and need an idyllic spot to stop and rest while enjoying breakfast, brunch or lunch.
On a recent visit, I enjoyed a grilled ham and cheese (I chose Havarti dill) with spinach and tomato on one of their new, gluten free everything bagels. My husband opted for the smoked meat on rye, with salt and vinegar potato chips. Both were filling and quite tasty.
Local note — South End Café does not offer sodas, but you can walk across the street to the farm stand and grab a cold one from the fridge for $ 1.25. South End Café does offer a wide variety of juices, coffees, and of course, bottled water.
Please keep in mind this is not a fast food joint, so during a breakfast or lunch rush you may have to wait while your food is prepared. Everything is made to order. If you’re in a hurry, grab some coffee and one of the delicious baked goods from the glass display case.
When you’ve finished your meal, head over to the new Hall’s Tasting Hall for a sampling of local ice cider, made with apples grown in the orchard. It’s a great Vermont experience. There is a fee for the tasting, but you’ll get a souvenir glass to remember your trip.

Great coffee an egg sandwiches

Charming! Perfect spot to take a ‘biking break’ or ‘walking break’ or simply have as a destination. The variety of fresh, home made cakes, muffins & various pastries is always of outstanding quality. Coffee is always great as well as the hospitality. Quaint, quiet, relaxing…& they have wifi. How perfect is that?

One of the few places to get something to eat while touring the immediate area. Unfortunately they don’t feel a need to pride themselves of the local produce and dairy that is available in the islands. THE KIDS GRILLED CHESSE IS MADE WITH VELVEETA!!! The wraps were pretty small for the cost. Only a handful of the pastries are made in house and the strawberry fruit smoothie tasted artificial. Not recommended.
