Sofia’s Place

Trying out Sophia’s Place for first-​time. I ordered the chicken enchiladas dinner with Verde sauce and guacamole with chips. The guacamole is fresh, but needs more lime and salt. My chicken enchiladas are very tasty with the Verde sauce. I was disappointed that the chicken was diced instead of shredded, which is more traditional and retains more flavor. Overall, a good dining experience.

Great food when you get the correct order. I keep going back because the food is really good but 4 or 5 times now I have carried out and when I got home, found that they had messed the order up. Starting to lose patience with them.

The food is good, but a bit on the pricey side. Recently a steak burrito, two fish tacos and a 20 oz. Coke set me back about $ 17. Their steak does have a terrific flavor, and their (Serrano?)-based green sauce is tasty and has quite a kick.

Love this place! Such yummy tacos! And you get free chips and salsa! The green sauce is to die for.

We live in the area about 5 mins away, always driving past Sophia’s without stopping in. Today we stopped on our was home, food was excellent we wished we would have stopped sooner. We will be back. Kudos to the chef & wait staff.

This place is great! The staff is very friendly, the food great, and the service quick and efficient. I will definitely be back. O and found out they serve margaritas, I will try those next.

I have been in Northern Illinois for 9 years so I have tried many Mexican food restaurants. Sofia’s is one of two Mexican food restaurants I will go too again. The service was good, the owner very friendly and the food was great. I was not crazy about the salsa but main course more then made up for it. They do serve margaritas. I did not have one but that is next. I will go again soon.

Chicken tacos are the bomb here with just cilantro and onion plus their house made jalapeño aeoli.

Stopped in recently for the first time. I was very pleased with my meal and will be back again for sure.

Love this joint! Found the place by mistake and checked the reviews before going. We’re trying it for breakfast today. It’s the third time in a week we’ve gone there! It’s a no frills place with awesome food.

I’ve been driving by this place, set back off the road in a strip mall, for several months. Originally I wasn’t enticed to go there because of their hand-​written signs on the road advertising their tacos, burritos, etc., which always kinda gives me the feeling that if the ownership doesn’t care enough to invest in slightly more professional signs, then how much do they really care about their food. Well, thankfully, they recently did get proper signage and I decided to give them a try. So happy I did.
The place is nothing fancy – a basic restaurant attached to a convenience /​liquor store with vinyl-​covered booths and linoleum floors. But their food is some of the best local authentic-​style Mexican around. They have awesome chicken tacos — generous size and all breast meat, seasoned and cubed (and no yucky gristle or skin mixed in like others places do!). Their Barbacoa tacos are also great — fantastic flavor.
Salsa is homemade and tasty, as is the guacamole (although I’ve had the guacamole twice now and it was different both times, but both times good and fresh).
They did miss the mark for me on their tamales, which were rather dried up, but everything else I’ve had there has been so good that I’ve a feeling I’ll be back often!

Horrible serice, the owner is mean, place is a joke period. Don’t come here unless u want nasty, greasy, and tasteless food.

I was hesitant to eat at this place because it’s connected to a liquor store. Man am I glad I did! It was delicious — will be my go to Mexican restaurant from now on. The service was great and the food was amazing, what more do you need?

Great place to eat authentic Mexican food. Had the Carne Asada which was fantastic. Will be common back for more. Staff and owners very friendly. Tell your friends about this great place so they don’t miss out.

The food here is always spectacular. Eduardo does an amazing job with everything he does– he puts his heart and soul into it. The service is impeccable– our waitress was extremely kind and attentive.

Just moved into the area and met the owner who recommended his restaurant. Glad I did. The food is more than good. They have more than just tacos and enchiladas, but the enchaladas verdes were exceptional. Very friendly quick service. Try it. You won’t be disappointed.

So glad I found this place. I had a huge pork burrito suizo, my wife had cheese enchiladas and daughter had quesadillas. We all loved our dinners. Have never had a red sauce on Mexican food as delicious as this place. Market, deli and restaurant are all connected… so it’s really convenient. Will definitely go back on a regular basis.

Best authentic Mexican food around the northern burbs. Found this place a few days ago and already went back again today. The food is delicious, the service is fast and friendly and the prices are fair.

good. fresh. cheap. the place is a little weird but the food is good and and fast. the guacamole is superb and I cant get enough of tacos. im a regular customer and will continue to be.
