Come here almost everyday for coffee. Great customer service, food, and coffee! If you are in the area you should stop by. The owners are very sweet, welcoming people.

The quality of food has significantly declined. To the point that I have quit coming here. As a regular I enjoyed their food. But after seeing cooks in the kitchen not wearing hair nets and finding hair in my food, I am done. Sad because the food was really good. Just sad to see this happen.

Just what you need in Dallas, authentic Bangladeshi food. From Roast pulao to Kacchi biryani, they have it all. And don’t miss out on their delicious mughlai paratha. Its a must have!

Shalimar is a small Indian/Bangladeshi grocery cum restaurant located at the North-West corner of N Story rd and Airport Fwy. The grocery is small with limited items but you do get Halal Meat and Fish with a small boutique attached to it. As you enter, there is a decent sized cafeteria-style seating and the ordering counter right ahead. There is a small archway that connects the grocery section to the dining section. The place looks old but is kept clean. Their menu is small but covers the basics: Grill items for kababs n tandoris, Biryanis(chicken, beef, goat n vegetarian) and Curry special including the fish curry. This little place is very inexpensive; chicken and Veg biryanis are only 4.49. In fact, none of the items are above 8.99. The veg samosa was authentic and really good. The Veg biryani was bursting with flavor and aroma as it was plentiful, may be a tad oily. Shalimar, the place itself may not match your imagination of the namesake Mughal era garden but it can definitely be a place to pick up a to-go order of good, inexpensive biryanis, fish curry or a quick bite of veg/chicken puffs, samosas over tea.

Good food. Order ahead before coming to have faster food ready. Place kind of looked like hole in the wall. Their Muglai parata is good. Also there beef curry is very good. Also try the samosa and chicken puffs.

This is about biryani and nothing else. And I give it 3.5 stars. We stopped here late one evening to see if they served biryani. The grovery has a small café attached to it. I will say that it was dark and looked empty, but the guy that ran the café was next door cutting some meat for some customers. We ordered 3 or 4 chicken biryani($ 3.99) and I ordered an order of mutton(goat) biryani too($ 5.99). The guy working there said we’d love it because it was«Pakistani style». We did! The portions were nice and it was well spiced. My friend said the only thing it needed was some black cardimom; I agree. Just to let you know that my measuring stick for biryani in DFW is Al Markaz. Not everyone is a fan of theirs, but I have not had any I like better. Shalimar’s was definitely in the ball park!

Like most Halal meat shops, the inside of Shalimar Market is dark, devoid of people, and looks a bit sketchy. Unlike most Halal meat shops, the butcher actually cuts meat the way you want, on the spot, and trims off all the unwanted bits. Other than the meat, the quality seemed lacking(produce did not look fresh, shelves full of dusty jars, no offers of help from the owners). Props for their political consciousness though– the owner was intently watching a special on Barack Obama while I wandered around clearly needing and wanting to be helped :) One of these days, I’ll find a Halal meat shop in the area that is well-lit, clean, and welcoming. A girl can dream!
