To prevent a long rant I’ll just say that this was the WORST sushi on beltline. I don’t understand how this place is as busy as it gets. Convenience I guess???

Tried this for the first time two days ago. Went in for takeout salmon sashimi. Excellent quality, incredibly fresh, nicely presented too! Almost unheard of with takeout of any kind!!! The dinners, rice dishes and noodles looked and smelled delicious as I was waiting for my order. They have a little side salad bar with freshly made korean style pickles, broccoli, beansprouts and kimchee. All were delicious, fresh and satisfyingly crunchy. We will definitely be back!!!

Got a roll and their spicy udon soup. The roll was pretty good and reasonably priced. The soup was pretty disappointing though, it was very sweet(instead of spicy) and not very good over all I thought.

They now have a location in Royal Lane/I-35! Yay! Still a great place to eat. I can never get enough of Maki Boy! I will always recommend this place to anyone visiting the area. They also have a VIP membership card if you are a frequent visitor. You can use it to buy yourself a free meal if you have accumulated enough«money» on the card. All the food you order is great! They also have smoothies! I would recommend to eat in, they usually get out the food fast for great food quality.

This place is amazing! The food is great and very very reasonably priced. They even have alcohol, beer and wine! The mini salad bar has amazing broccoli and kimchi for free! It’s not your average Japanese/Korean food restaurant. People do a lot of take out from here but this is your typical ‘order your food at the counter and sit and wait for it’ type of place. Overall we love it and will continue to recommend and come here!

Great sushi and Japanese for an even better price. I come here atleast three times a month from Arlington. The pineapple fried rice is so moist and rich in flavor and all their sushi is great. One of my favorite deals is the mini ramen bowl that comes with a chefs choice roll. So much food for only $ 8! Definitely recommend coming here for a casual meal. It’s small and comfortable but gets really busy on weekend nights so be prepared to wait.

My boyfriend and I came here during lunch on a weekday and were completely blown away by the deliciousness of this place! Doesn’t look like much from the outside, but the inside is a little more quaint with a small, cozy dining room and sushi bar. We had shrimp tempura Udon, bibimbap, and a Florida sushi roll. All of it equally delicious. They also have a little side bar full of goodies such as kimchi, broccoli, cucumbers, etc. Which was an added bonus. Needless to say, we were very full and satisfied! We don’t live near Irving but we will definitely be back for more Maki Boy!

RuN! Please. I’m still shocked on how my food taste. Well it was tasteless. I ordered their miso Ramen and my friend had rainbow roll. Let’s start with my Ramen — it brought me back to my insant Ramen days, blend in with miso soup. This is not Ramen at all. The rainbow roll, just used an imitation crab meat and mayo. It’s really disappointing. Service was alright. We came in, cafeteria style and was given a paper plates without direction. We looked around and found out they had a little section for salad bar — I’m giving one star because of that. It’s eh ok. But then again, the food is cheap but still it’s a waste of your buck.

Worst sushi of my life! It was so badly rolled and over stuffed with carrots. All of it opened and fell apart. So badly rolled that I could hardly eat it. There was no wasabi or ginger given with my to go sushi. It was a horrible experience. Will never order a sushi here!

Great find as many other Unilocalers mentioned. Mini chicken bowl — rice and very moist chicken(possibly steamed, looks and tastes like they are boneless thighs) served with teriyaki sauce(delicious! Doesn’t look or taste store bought). This is definitely a revisit! Also craved salmon sashimi, got a few pieces of those. So buttery and fairly thick slices, thicker than normal which is good since it did cost a little more. There’s a little food cart against the wall that has broccoli, pickled cucumbers, pickled daikon, pickled ginger, kimchi, bean sprouts and sliced jalapeños. It’s serve yourself free of charge. Kind of like Korean banchan. Went during lunch on a weekday, there’s a steady stream of customers. You may catch a table or two that would be empty.

I was very surprised to find this place to be really good! Who would’ve known a little hole-in-the-wall joint would have quality sushi on par with higher end Japanese restaurants? I bet they get food from the same vendors — wouldn’t be surprised. Food was so fresh and clean-tasting. When I tried ordering sashimi(yellowtail), they do it by piece, which was convenient for me. I just ordered take-out, and it was ready in 10 minutes(probably because I didn’t order much). The interior was very nice and cozy, I think I’ll stop by again to dine in. Very affordable quality-tasting sushi. Thank god for this hidden gem.

Décor: 4⁄5 –A popular spot on a Sunday afternoon. We arrived 7 minutes before opening and decided to come back 10 minutes after opening. The place was nearly filled except for the sushi bar –Total seating capacity is probably about 30 Service: 4⁄5 –Station for condiments like kimchi, daikon, ginger, broccoli and more –Self-serve drink station also Food: 4⁄5 –Choice of 6 or 12 pcs. The 12 pcs is like getting buy one get one half off. The 12 pcs ranges from $ 8 – 11 and is well worth it. –Generous large portions of sushi rolls is the first thing I thought –Sunset Roll(eel, cream cheese, avocado) $ 10.50 for 12 pcs: the description says ‘a lot of avocado’ but all three ingredients were the same ratio. There was no need for the eel sauce on the side. The roll was also a bit flimsy and hard to hold and dip into my wasabi soy lime sauce without breaking apart –Rainbow Roll(california roll wrapped in tuna, yellowtail, shrimp, salmon, tilapia, avocado) $ 9.95 for 12 pcs: is a great high protein bang for the buck.

Maki Boy is a small and overlooked, Japanese and Korean fusion restaurant hidden in a cluttered plaza in Irving, just barely peeking out from behind a thick pillar. Upon first entry you are welcomed by upbeat music, a display slot machine and LOTS of small LED lights that out does your Momma’s Christmas decorations. Hello high electricity bill but who’s complaining? It works. You pick up the menus from the Sushi bar and order it there, picking your own seats afterwards. The restaurant is certainly not big, which plays on some psychology, giving it the feeling it is always busy because tables can be near filled around dinner time, making it impossible for multiple larger parties to sit together. The menu is diverse, and very inexpensive. You have choices of Udon noodles, rice dishes, sushi meals, ramen bowls, etc. Lots of choices. I ordered a mini chicken bowl, which is simply a small $ 4 rice bowl with tender chicken and warm teriyaki sauce on top, along with a 6pcs Maki Monster sushi roll for I believe $ 6.95. I like their set up for ordering sushi. You can either order a 6 pcs version or a 12 pcs version of that roll. There is a salad bar which is free and unlimited as well which brings your dinner full circle. I was stuffed for just about $ 12. I became envious of a table behind me when their fried rice was brought out. It was served inside a pineapple. I can quickly imagine the sweet flavor and aroma getting soaked into the rice. Yum! Come on out for a casual dining experience. The service is good, the staff really takes care of you to make sure everything is okay. The food is phenomenal. 5 stars in my book.

There is limited seating, and there can be a wait at dinner time. I usually go for lunch and do not have a problem finding a table. The inside has an izakaya feel to it. You order at the register, get your sides from the self-serve bar, find a table and wait for them to bring your order. I’ve tried several things and liked everything. Their hawaiian fried rice comes in half of an actual pineapple shell, and there is a very generous portion. I usually order their combo for $ 8.95(soup + chef’s choice of 10pc sushi). I have never been one to eat nigiri or sashimi(never liked the texture or taste), but this place actually makes me crave it!

This place is a good place to have affordable sushi with good vibes! They try very much to create the cute and quaint style of Tokyo sushi shops. Sushi −3÷5 Price-4/5 Service-4/5 I will return if I am ever in the area!

Food(3⁄5) Maki Boy is a quaint hole-in-the-wall that serves Japanese and Korean cuisine. The prices are extremely fair, and visitors are allowed to obtain unlimited amounts of free Korean banchan dishes in the corner. Don’t expect anything too extravagant though — just kimchi, bean sprouts, broccoli, etc. Out of my three visits, I have only ever ordered sushi, soondubu(Korean tofu stew), and the udon /sushi combination special. None of the aforementioned that I had ordered was over $ 10(maybe $ 8-$ 9 on average). Word of advice: Don’t order the soondubu. I have had better in the area for a comparable price, so I would just stick to the cheap sushi. If I remember correctly, prices start as low as $ 6 for a roll, but I noticed the rolls were cut a little shorter and thinner than what I’m used to, so that might explain the cheaper price. However, the best thing I have ordered here has been the $ 8.95 special for 10 pieces of chef’s choice sushi and a smaller portion of noodles(choice of seafood udon, spicy ramen, or miso ramen). The food was more than enough to fill me up, and the $ 8.95 price tag was a great value. I enjoyed the udon, which contained a fair amount of shrimp, squid, and clam given the low price point. The sushi, however, had an unusual peppery aftertaste for me, but I couldn’t tell where the pepper taste was coming from. I had tried the sushi alone, and there seemed to be no pepper taste, so I can only imagine its origination(e.g., tainted soy sauce mini plate, soy sauce itself??). This seems to be an anomaly, so I will give this place the benefit of the doubt and not rule out a future visit. I will be honest and admit that I would not be as forgiving if the price were higher. Service(3.5÷5) To order your food, you have to order at the cash register, which is located at the counter next to the sushi bar. Afterwards, you are given a number marker and are required to find your own table. Tables are first-come, first-serve. Given the popularity of this place, finding a table was difficult. Pro tip: If you have multiple people in your party, try having one person wait for a table and secure it once a party leaves while the others order food. I will give extra points to the workers though as they tried to help me find an open table and even tried suggesting our party share a table with another group. Atmosphere(3⁄5) The restaurant space is very small and homey feeling. Upon entering the restaurant, you’ll see the order counter and are in the main dining room. Space is limited in the main room. There are a total of approximately 9 tables capable of seating only 2 people each. These tables are capable of being grouped together to create larger tables to seat parties of 4. There is a separate smaller room that can seat possibly 8 people at two tables. There is also sushi bar seating fit for only 3 people, so seating real estate is scarce during prime lunch /dinner time. Bottom Line This place is extremely fair in price, especially the $ 8.95 sushi and noodle combination special. Although I had a weird pepper aftertaste from my sushi, the low price won’t bar me from visiting again and giving the place a second chance. Admittedly, I wouldn’t go on my own volition as I have other favorites sushi spots, but if I am ever in the area and have a craving for some cheap sushi, I know I can rely on Maki Boy.

This place is a tad bit small so there isn’t a lot of seating available. You order at the counter and they’ll bring your order out to you. It was semi crowded when I went but I got my hand roll within 2 min of sitting down and the eel donburi 5 min after that. They have side dishes available too in the corner. It’s like Korean side dishes. I normally don’t like boiled broccoli but theirs was pretty good! They also had bean sprouts which was pretty fresh. These side dishes, drinks, and silverware are self-serve. I got the tuna hand roll and the eel donburi. Both were delicious! The hand roll was also decently priced which is always a plus. They put them on these really cute stands too! The eel donburi was very filling. There was a lot of rice which I didn’t finish. They also give you eel sauce on the side. I would definitely recommend both!

The best hole in the wall ever! I discovered this place maybe two years ago and I had just started working for American Airlines. It was great, nobody knew about it from work and I could get away from the office while enjoying some really solid food! Korean owned, this is the best little hidden gem! I only say hole in the wall earlier because it’s not some fancy restaurant and it’s not in a fancy place. In fact, it does worry me at times to be there at night. I love it though. I come here for the salmon teriyaki. I don’t know why, but it’s so good. The girl who I can only assume is part of ownership laughs whenever she sees me and I order this because she knows. It’s Perfectly pan fried to crisp without overlooking. And it’s accompanied by vegetables and short-grained rice. I’ve had sushi here too and noodle soups, but this is by far my favorite dish. The best part is the fact that they have bonchon and you can get as much as you want. Kimchi, seasoned broccoli, sprouts, pickled radishes, what have you. I would go here just to get this stuff! Not kidding. Since I’ve moved away and stopped frequenting this place, I’ve noticed my morale going down…(I kid) but it was great to come here again and experience this without having had it in so long(maybe six months). Please try it if you’re in the area!
