After 45 mins waiting for our food, we decided to pay for the coffee and get the heck outta there. The tables next to us waited at least an hour. Also, the two things I ordered they didn’t have. We ended up eating at Banditos, and we walked out satisfied after 45 mins. This place is unacceptable, even for Iowa patience and standards.

Yikes. There’s a reason we were the only ones at Sunny’s while Bluebird Diner was packed to the gills. New ownership and a new name makes Sunny’s a cruddy restaurant. We really enjoyed Lou Henri, so we went back not knowing that they had switched things up. The coffee was completely watered down — both versions. I asked for a new cup since the first sip was so bad. Turns out that didn’t matter. The OJ was either Tang or Sunny D, definitely not OJ… The blueberry muffin was fresh out of the Otis Spunkmeyer wrapper, but even my 2 year old with a sweet tooth didn’t like it. My husband and I both ordered poached egg dishes that were hard boiled and coated in cheddar cheese(a.k.a. Velveeta). The hash browns were subpar and the best part of the meal. $ 30 later, we had experienced the worst meal in Iowa City, possibly anywhere. And based on the cheap ingredients they probably made a $ 25 profit.

What a great little place with house made salsa, made to order ommeletts and great service! And REASONABLY priced! We found this place by accident as we were headed on a cross country trip. We’re stopping there on our way back!
