Breakfast was blah here. Had the most driest cinnamon roll ever here, nothing like any other one you have where it’s covered in deliciousness. Super dry. I got cheese grits too, they didn’t make them right. Literally just put shredded cheese on top of unflavored grits. Anyone can do that at home. Hash browns were a miss as well. The Benedict wasn’t good either, the egg was overdone and rock hard, it’s suppose to be a runny yolk. They didn’t put much hollandaise sauce to go on it, and the pork belly cut into cubes makes for a stabbing game to even attempt to capture a whole bite of all the ingredients as most are intended. Maybe it was a bad day? I dunno, but I’ve had better in the area.

So apparently Ride is undergoing a change of ownership and will be closed until February(?). This review is for over the Christmas holiday. We were in IC to spend the holiday with my parents and went out for dinner. I had the veggie burger and my husband had the shrimp po’ boy. Both were good, so good in fact that we took my parents for brunch a few days later. Brunch was decidedly not good. Everything was under seasoned and cold. Completely disappointing, especially considering that my parents rarely dine out. In the end, I would say skip brunch, but consider dinner. Perhaps the consistency will be better under new ownership.

I have never been to the actual store but tried some food using the order up app. I seriously think this place is just magnificent. I tried the Grilled Cheese and the Macaroni and Cheese so far and both were just terrific.

Came here for brunch and ordered the eggs benedict with pork belly and the eggs benedict with sausage and creamed spinach. I was very excited to see pork belly on the menu, but it ended up just tasting like thick ham with bits of fat on the side. Wasn’t the best pork belly I’ve had. The eggs benedict with pork belly ended up just being a mediocre meal… a common taste for eggs benedict with ham underneath it, nothing special. I ordered my hashbrowns extra crispy, but there was probably no need to do that since the hashbrowns came out EXTREMELY crispy, so I bet they crisp their hashbrowns well to begin with. The eggs benedict with sausage and creamed spinach had a little bit more of a unique taste to it. The creamed sausage added a lot of flavor to it. The sausage was pretty meager though, not as much sausage there as I would have liked. Besides that, the service was nice and friendly, so that was a plus. I was a little disappointed at the interior decoration of the place. They had a cool little lightbulb hanging at the tables, which was pretty trendy, but I had imagined there to be more bikes hanging up or for it to look a bit more theme-y and interested. Having maybe two bikes(I didn’t count) hanging up didn’t really live up to what I expected a restaurant called«Ride» to have. I’m hopeful to come back and try more things though and plan to come back for lunch or dinner sometime to try other things besides their breakfast.

Had the sweet potato hash and enjoyed the combo of salty ham with the sweet potato mixture. Very nice and just the right amount of food. My mate had the southern breakfast, and it is huge bowl of comfort food, grits, beans, eggs, biscuit. Rock, the manager is very attentive and very friendly with everyone. The waitress was fun and efficient.

First time in thanks to Unilocal! In for breakfast, great looking menu so was hard to decide. Went with the house corned beef hash — loved it. Tasty and cooked to perfection — with that nice charred skin. Onions were pleasant surprise. House jam served in cute canning jar was nice too. And not to forget — best cup(s) of coffee I’ve had in literally years. Friendly staff and clean restaurant with nice cozy atmosphere. Can’t wait to get back and try something else.

This is a review of their breakfast menu(the only time I’ve been there) Pros: 1. The patio and inside décor are awesome. Although I’ve only been there in the morning, I think the patio would be great in the evening for drinks with the lights shining as ambiance above. 2. The breakfast food is great too. I’ve had the egg sandwich and one of the omelets. Both were prepared well and filling. 3. The coffee is excellent as well and my cup never reached the bottom until I was ready to be done with coffee, a plus to the wait staff. 4. Ride also has local pork products, which is a great way to support the local economy and farmers. Cons: 1. My largest con is that the egg sandwich is just that, an egg sandwich. No sides to come with it. That was a bit odd in my opinion when it came to me.

It’s OK, food was good(some portions are small, like hashbrowns), waitress forgot some of my food also(never got my toast). It’s pretty small inside as well, not a lot of seating.

I’ve been here twice so far. Once for lunch and once for breakfast. At lunch I got a burger and fries. The burger was great and they have awesome fries. I like that I can actually get my burger cooked medium. It is oddly difficult for the restaurants in Iowa City to cook a burger anything less than well done. Today we had breakfast there. It was good. I ordered the corned beef hash and my boyfriend got the huevos Madrid, and we shared an order of the biscuits and gravy. I had a specific idea of what I expected, being from the south I wanted the traditional, southern biscuits and gravy. But it was not. The gravy was cheesy. Which was a bit odd at first, but delicious once I abandoned my expectations. The biscuits were fluffy and perfectly cooked. The corned beef hash had a lot of red bell peppers in it, which I am not a fan of, but once I picked them all out the hash was pretty good, but should be served with potatoes instead of toast. The huevos Madrid was delicious, and I will likely order that next time we go. Also, I read on their menu that they have a special Sunday dinner each week. We hope to try that soon. All in all, good food, good service, and I plan to return.

Went here for dinner and the word underwhelming sums up the experience: –weren’t told specials or about Sunday dinner and we were just asked to order –beer served with warm glass –food ok at best –service ok, look back up to see issue with specials –drinks underwhelming, but good Bloody Mary –Mac and cheese overpowered with truffle oil and not enough cheese factor; truffle oil is one of those ingredients you have to be careful with it can either help or hurt, here it hurts. –pork belly blt overwhelmed by aioli and avocado, now that’s a damn shame, bacon should be the star –good fries –felt rushed until I wanted the check, which at that point I just wanted to leave. Won’t return, not worth it.

Iowa City has a bunch new place popped out, Ride being one of them. The location of the place is somewhat interesting, right within the neighborhood. Inside was a little dark, the outside seating was delight but expanding it a little larger would be quite ideal. Food — had a salad with pork belly and an egg with running yolk on the top. I wouldn’t say it’s anything extraordinary but the fact of American restaurant start to give non-smoked pork belly attention pleased me. Portion was big, very Iowa like. We intended to order half of the size but by accident it came a whole. Waiter was very nice and only charged us half. I had pork loin, and with mixed feeling about it. I can see Ride shooting for upper scale dining experience but the portion of food was just shouting THISISIOWA! Seriously, between me and my bf we attempted to attack this dish, and hardly went through half of it. The mash teta underneath was delicious, the sauce on the left that’s kinda red was also quite tasty, but the spinach side did not mix well at all. Having the bowl also didn’t help, it was a mess to cut and eat. BF got a hamburger, something Mary, very elaborated with the goat cheese(??) on top of it. Fries are hot(and for crying out loud how can some sit-down restaurant not able to service fresh hot fries!?) and exactly what I would say a upper-middle restaurant would present to their customers. Service — Can’t complaint. The waiter looks quite but was surprisingly attentive. Maybe try to be a little more personal, but overall excellent job. I am shied away from that porkloin, unless they are cutting the size half and leaving the bowl as big, I think people would pay the same and still eat it, except not wasting it. Too close to be perfect, but plenty potential!

Definitely worth a ride to visit. We went mid day and there was only one other table filled. The place is small so I can imagine that there might be times when there is a wait. Very cool and casual décor. I had the Beef Short Ribs. Very tender and good flavor. Nice paired with the polenta. Salad was just a salad. Good size serving. Very filling. My husband had the Flank Steak. He said it tasted good but his steak was well done and he had asked for medium rare. Mashed potatoes were good. My daughter had the mac and cheese. SOOOOO good. Even warmed up the next day it was amazing. This mama stole it from the baby. Haha. Like that the food is from scratch. Bold homey flavors. The only down side we felt was that the meals come all stacked in a bowl. With my husbands it was potatoes, creamed spinach and the sauce all pilled in a bowl. Same with mine. While mine didn’t matter as much, my husband says that it was hard to taste the individual components because they just muddled all together in the bowl. For mine the salad was on top of the meat that was on top of the polenta. I could get to the components easier than my husband could. Definitly not the place to go if you don’t like your food touching, haha. A+ for fresh and flavor. Frown for the bowl serving.

See that local, delicious pork belly on the menu? Order it. Order it now. The poached egg was a little underdone for my liking but only by a tiny bit. Sipping a cup of coffee while sitting on the outdoor patio eating potatoes, pork belly and eggs is my new recipe for a perfect morning. Love the outdoor patio but I wish there were some umbrellas to offer more shade. I look forward to trying this place for dinner, when the patio is lit up and Creole Risotto is on the menu!

Stopped at this cute little biker-themed place when passing through Iowa City on a road trip and it did not disappoint. They have a nice space on a residential street with both indoor and outdoor seating and the ambience is pleasant and pretty quite. The waitress was super friendly and attentive and our food was delicious. We got the macaroni and cheese, Windy sandwich, and wild berry cheesecake for dessert and everything was amazing. The food was clearly carefully crafted and was way better than typical diner food you can get for this price elsewhere. Oh yeah, did I mention it’s really cheap?! We got dinner, dessert, and soft drinks for two for only $ 35. It was a great dinner stop off the highway!

I have been to Ride twice for brunch/breakfast. It’s a great little spot – cozy, but not tight, and plenty of indoor and outdoor patio seating. The most recent time, I started with a classic Bloody, which was good; not the best I’ve ever had in my entire life, and could have used a bit more spice, but flavorful and just a good reliable Bloody. Friend ordered a scramble with cheddar grits, I ordered eggs Benedict which came with the potato of the day(roasted reds). We were both dying for something sweet so we last-minute added on the French Toast. Let me tell you, I am so glad we did. In fact the French Toast alone is what bumped my rating up from 4 to 5 stars. Fantastic. And I don’t even like French toast, but that experience has me rethinking the breakfast food all together. Wrapping it up with overall good service and the fact that we were able to get in on the University of Iowa’s graduation weekend morning, our experience was great. Currently my favorite IC brunch spot.

Okay, let’s talk about the important thing… outdoor patio. Did you get that? Outdoor patio! Yes, you hear me right, OUTDOORPATIO! Come on, you know that patio stuff is important on a beautiful spring or summer day. You get on your bike to enjoy the day, and you want to stop for breakfast. So you want someplace where you can lock up that sweet ride, and keep on enjoying the day while you fill up on food. This is just that place. They do have seating inside. And, a nice bar. Actually, we didn’t want to wait for a table on our visit, so we grabbed a couple of seats at the bar. Plenty of room to eat and talk without the wait. And, yes, be prepared to wait. The food here is good, so people would flock here even without the outdoor patio. As for breakfast, I am going to suggest the cheddar grits. Yes, they are a side, but just make sure you get them. I will be honest and say that I did not enjoy the scrambled eggs. They were overdone and had brown bits from being overcooked. I just don’t like my scrambled eggs tough, so these were non-starters. However, on the next visit, I went with the French toast and was pleased. Hubbs got an omelet each time and he was happy. Also, the décor is edgy and bike driven. Cool place overall and worth the visit.

I recently tried Ride with my wife and toddler for a Saturday morning breakfast. We regularly frequent Stella, so were excited about having a sister business open up in the downtown IC scene to compete with Bluebird and Hamburg as an alternative to the usual breakfast diner options. The layout is simple and themed toward bikes, but not in an overdone way. The restaurant itself is surprisingly small, with what looked like under 20 tables, and filled up quickly during the course of our meal. Seems advisable to get there early on a weekend. My wife tried the vegetarian egg scramble(«Velo Vie») and I tried the chicken hollandaise egg scramble(«The Schwinn»), both of which packed flavor. Each came with bread and a side dish, and the highlight for me was the side of cheddar grits, which were tasty and brought back fond memories of many a good breakfast diner in North Carolina. Service was attentive but not intrusive. The atmosphere isn’t quite as hipster or quirky as Bluebird, but I’d say the food is comparable, if not slightly better.

We came on over to check out Ride soon after it opened and I must say, this is an incredible improvement over Lou Henri’s that used to grace the halls of this building. Lou Henri’s reminded me of going to my grandparents house 15 years after they stopped caring about what the placed looked like. The dudes running Ride did a fantastic job of turning this place into an inviting and just plain chill spot! The bike theme runs deep here, but it’s not overpowering. There isn’t a huge amount of seating so calling ahead is encouraged. Good, not great beer selection, but enough local stuff to keep you interested. They have half a dozen wine selections by the glass. You’re coming here for the food anyways! We came for dinner and we were very impressed. My better half had the pbalt — Their version of the BLT with — pork belly-tomato-lettuce-avocado-roasted garlic & bacon aioli. This sandwich was boss! Excellent flavor, great bread and just filling enough. I had the truffle mac and cheese with shiitake mushrooms — This may have been my favorite dish of the year. Incredibly creamy, flavor that really popped and ultimately the first thing in a long time that I was chewing longer because it was good! The service was excellent and will continue to get better as they get to know the menu and beer selection more. The outdoor seating will be solid when it gets warmer as well. Overall, Ride is a great addition to downtown and is working to establish itself as both a great breakfast option and a solid place to grab dinner. Worth checking out and you’ll likely be back again!

Stopped in for breakfast this morning, they have been open about 10 days now I think. Bicycle and craft beer them, they did an excellent job on the remodel. My wife had the Bubble and Squeak, bacon, potatoes, onions, cabbage, and eggs her way, which was over easy. I had the Eggs Benedict, which are served with«smoked pork belly» which is another way to say really thick, really good bacon. The coffee was quite good, a notch above other Iowa City area breakfast places, service was quick and courteous. We both really enjoyed our dishes. They have some other interesting options including grits and creole red beans which I hope to try soon. Recommended.
