A friend and I were out and about for girls day and decided to stop in to the dining room for lunch. We had heard some pretty good things about the food so decided to try it. Walking in was a little shocking as I expected a different atmosphere. But it is homey. The service wasn’t very friendly and our waitress had a barbell hanging out of her chin. It was quite disgusting to see that on someone serving our food. The sweet tea and chocolate milk were pretty good but the food. Yuck. I ordered a rueben. The meat was on a flat slab just slapped on 2 pieces of thin bread that was burnt. The fries were disgusting as they tasted like cheap fries out of a bag throwed in the oven, not cooked long enough because they were soggy. Will never go there again.

Good food, good atmosphere. I have to advise everyone to «not» under any circumstances buy a gift certificate for this restaurant! My wife and I were given 2 twenty-five dollar certificates for Christmas, and looking forward to a nice breakfast stopped by. You«have to spend fifty(yes twice the certificates value) in order to use 1! I feel that I’m a very easy going guy but that really pissed me off. So a family member«gives» you money for this piece of paper, but in order for anyone to use this piece of paper you then require«more» money! Outrageous… highway robbery!

Had lunch there last week while the wife and I were in Inwood. Little out of the way, not really impressive decorwise, and definitely not impressive servicewise. That being said, the food is good and while not enough to make a trip for, it stands out on its own. With a few changes, this place could be really hopping.

Went there for the first time and was not impressed. But, everyone raves about it so maybe I missed something. I’ll give another try just because so many people talk so highly of it.

Found this place on Unilocal and decided to try it. This is a well established local eatery with a very limited menu. The meal was okay, but nothing to draw me back. The service was horrendous, even had to wait for 20 minutes to pay the bill, which was much higher than the food quality would have merited. Bottom line, fine for mediocre meal if you have plenty of time to wait.

It’s been several years since I have been here. Years ago I stopped going because of the rude service, and frozen food taste of the meals. I just moved back into the area and decided I would give this place one last try. First I would like to say the customer service has improved tremendously! Everyone was pleasant and friendly. Unfortunately customer service alone is not enough to keep someone returning, if other areas are lacking. All the tables are water damaged with lots of spots on them, you start to question if the tables are dirty and have second thoughts about eating off them, with the sunlight coming in it looks dirty. A simple washable table cloth would work perfect in this situation. I understand that this is supposed to be a down home country feeling, but there is a big difference in Country/OLD, and a place needing an overhaul. The ceiling looked dirty and like it was going to fall in at places. The overall inside floors, walls etc. Is just dirty. Not old. Dirty… The food was the worst part. no flavor, spices. When you think of a Home cooked meal you think of Grandma’s cooking! The old meals that still stick in your head! This place gives you the impression that overnight someone with no cooking skills opened this place up and slapped some things on the menu. I often wondered why the place was always packed and have come some conclusions. 1. There really is nowhere else to go in the town, 2. It’s mainly Senior Citizens, who refuse to eat fast food, 3. Most of the people that eat here are clueless to really really good food and taste! I won’t be back!

Homestyle, homestyle, homestyle! Nothing imitation about the food served at all. Breakfast was incredible delicious! Our server was fast, efficient and friendly! There is a reason The Dining Room has been a pillar of the community for all these years!

Been here quite a lot. the food is awesome down home cookin. The service however is lacking. The tall woman with the short blonde hair is not a nice person and the servers are a bit rough in their service. again awesome food but try to class up the help.

Been here several times since first reviewed. Each time suffered more disappointments. Wife got pan fried oysters(I’ve had them previously) and they were heavily breaded. I suspect frozen from a restaurant supply store, not sure about that though. Don’t seem breaded onsite. I had the«baked steak»(pot roast, really) smothered in gravy and ate only half. I have an upset stomach now so I’ll give the remaining to the dogs. I asked if the green beans were frozen or canned(didn’t occur to me to ask if they were fresh), and I was assured they were frozen. NOT, they were canned with seasoning, southern style. Not planning to return… sorry

I’ve only eaten breakfast at The Dining Room but I knew I had to go there because every time I drive by the place is always packed. Portions are large and prices are reasonable. It is typical country cooking with a pleasant, small town atmosphere. All of the wait staff is friendly and make you feel welcome. I will definitely be going back to try lunch and dinner!

This may be the best restaurant in Inwood and it is hidden on a quiet residential street. The food is affordable and delicious: tender farm vegetables, classic meats and seafood. The tea is fresh brewed and the rolls may have been delivered in a basket from heaven. Stay for dessert; I cannot say enough good things about the blackberry pie. I may spend a lot of time solving crimes but it is no mystery how I feel about this restaurant. I even love the curtains, the old fashioned window air conditioner, and the copies of an article about the beauty of front porches stacked beside the cash register. My friend Bess says the sandwiches here are better than Hannah Gruen’s…

After reading the reviews and looking forward to a good home style cooked meal I left my hotel for The Dining Room. It seemed promising, the place was packed. After finally getting seated I waited, and waited, and waited for my menu which was finally delivered. While I was looking over my menu I overheard the servers arguing about who was responsible for another table. This table had been waiting for menus longer than I had been waiting to get seated/my menu. I had a similar problem-servers arguing over who was responsible for waiting on me. Now, the only reason I overheard them is because I was seated next to the kitchen. I finally had my order taken and ordered one of the vegetables of the day(green beans) with my meal. About 10 minutes later my server comes back saying they are out of green beans and that the only other option was corn. Now, I am on a rather limited diet(my choice) and cannot have corn or any starchy option. It was 6:30pm in the evening. They were not even close to being closed and ran out of their only non-starchy vegetable-and it took them 10 minutes after placing my order to realize this. I had been in this restaurant for at least45 minutes at this point and had yet to receive any food. I politely told her I wasn’t interested in another side as I was limited in my food and left. I drove to the Cracker Barrel in Martinsburg which did not run out of food and enjoyed my meal. Slow service, rude waiters. I don’t care how good your food is, that will turn my stomach every time. Its a shame because all the food passing me by looked really good.

First off I hadn’t eaten here in years because I thought the food was bland. After talking with my mil who eats here often I decided to try it again. Upon her invitation the whole family went two weeks ago and I must say the food has improved but the service was slacking. I thought maybe it was because it was a Friday night and they were busy so and friend and I decided to head there for lunch today. The service was worse, the server was unfriendly despite my manners of please and thank you, she didn’t bring me the what I asked for after the meal was served and I had to carry my food to the register to get it boxed as she didn’t bring me that either. And she never once asked how the meal was or if we needed anything else. I you aren’t a regular don’t bother.
