Ate here while passing through. Got an entrée salad with shrimp, walnuts, asparagus, cucumbers, and dried cherries but it was mostly arugula leaves and one or two bits of the others. Looked great but tasted very bland and with minimal dressing. Shrimp were undercooked. Appetizers and wine/beer selection were great. Perhaps I just shouldn’t have gotten the salad.

The pork chops were good but the cobbler with it was sublime. Beer selection was good too. Lots of local micro brews.

This is a great place for a decently priced filet mignon. It’s hard to fine it anywhere in the city for under $ 30. At $ 28 I feel like it was worth the price. The chips and house made queso were good, zesty, with a kick. The only let down was the lobster mac and cheese which was made with tri color pasta that I’m used to seeing in italian pasta salad. It wasn’t very hot and didn’t have much flavor at all. This side dish felt very half assed, which was sad because it brought down the tone of the whole plate. Maybe serving it in a crock and finishing it off in the oven, using a different kind of pasta would help? Sad because my mom and I both love lobster mac and cheese and were really looking forward to it. I know they can do it better. Also, the service was just meh. Yes, my opentable notes do say preferably a booth in a quiet spot away from the front door and kitchen, but when I walked in, I specifically asked if anything was available outside. The entire place seemed pretty dead. They pushed me into the booth anyway. Am I not allowed to change my mind? I didn’t even know they had outdoor dining until I arrived. Seemed strange for the place to be so slow on a Friday night at 7pm but I’m sure they’re hopping when more events are happening downtown. Free parking in their lot! My 7 and 7 was yummy, but my mom didn’t care for her raspberry manhattan.

Had a groupon and was glad we did. Filet was mediocre at best with instant potatoes. Meat loaf was strange with same potatoes! We won’t be back.

The drinks! Wow, either I just needed a French martini or they’re really good here. Maybe both! I ordered the filet meatloaf which was something different for me to try. It was good! I think they have a few unique dishes, so don’t be shy about talking to your server for recommendations. There’s free parking in a surface lot next to the restaurant, but I’m sure it fills up quickly if you’re going during prime time. Near a lot of hotels and Lucas Oil Stadium, so stop by if you’re on your way to a Colts game or other local event.

Tavern on South was an excellent blend of a casual tavern atmosphere with the décor and culinary development of a fine dining establishment. I was introduced to the owner, Steve, upon entering Tavern on South, and he modeled the same excellent service as the rest of his team. This two-story upscale pub tucked away just west of Lucas Oil Stadium has all the perks of your hometown bar while offering some incredible and original concoctions that will leave you wishing you could stretch your stomach just a little bit more. I started off with the Ahi Tuna and Pretzel Rods for an appetizer; the soft, flavorful tuna and the perfectly dense pretzels were the perfect starter for a meal that only got better. I followed up my appetizer with their pork chops, served over apple dumplings and a potato pancake with a sort of apple butter-esque sauce on top. The pork was perfectly cooked, incredibly juicy and crisp on the outside but not overcooked in the slightest. The mix of salty and sweet was an amazing combination that I didn’t expect. I finished with a side of lobster mac and cheese, which I barely had room for after the rest of my amazing meal. Though it’s a bit pricier than your typical pub food, that’s because it’s not your typical pub food — Tavern on South straddles the line between casual and upscale with perfect balance, never threatening to fall one way or the other. I’ll definitely be back.

Not impressed. Food is mediocre @ best. Had a buffalo wrap, minimal sauce & no blue cheese? Up-charge for sweet potato«waffle fries» which were regular«fries.» Chips that come w/the meal, appear to be out of a Lays bag. The pretzel breadsticks were cold & the queso was cold. Just zap it in the microwave, I won’t know the difference. Just goes to show what they’re allowing out of the kitchen. Also, $ 16/beer…watch the prices… they sure don’t treat you like a potential returning customer when they gouge you.

Delicious food! FH ordered blackened salmon with green beans and grits, and I ordered grilled chicken breast with potatoes and asparagus. Our waiter was a little informal, but it was a nice space for a reasonable price. Neither of us had any complaints about the food whatsoever. Both dishes were cooked to perfection!

Mediocre food? Check. Deceptive upsell? Check. Not honoring website happy hour specials? Check. But hey, they’re right next to the stadium and convention center, so why should they care? There’s a never ending stream of one time patrons. Seriously, the bison burger is not even close to good. I threw away half of it.

I am sitting here and anxiously awaiting our card. Our bill was over $ 60 and we are still hungry and the food we ate was absolutely horrible. The shrimp cocktail was not filling and extremely sweet. Way more than normal. And then the bison burger with seasoned fries(additional $ 4NOTWORTHIT). Our bison burger was suppose to be medium rate and was burnt by the time we got it. They forgot my cheese and my fries were soggy and cold. The server was sweet as can be and I feel bad that she has to serve this disgusting food! But seriously, our food was either undercooked or overcooked and I am living $ 60 poorer and starving — and in need of a decent meal compared to the crap I just ate… Do not waste your money on this restaurant!!!

Sitting outside on their upstairs patio is perfect on a fall night. You know it’s gotta be good when my other two friends and I order the exact same thing. The only difference was that we all chose a different wine to complement our meal. Bison Burger(cooked medium) with sweet potato fries.

Very mediocre dining experience. My family and I ate here on the 4th of July, before heading to Victory Field. It was right around the corner from our hotel, so convenience won. I had made a reservation for 5pm thinking it would be crowded, but there were a whole two other diners when we arrived. Upon arriving, there was no one to seat us. Even wondering around, making eye contact with servers, still no one seated us. After five minutes someone finally came down from upstairs and took care of us. Our waitress was non too pleased to be working a holiday weekend, that was evident. She was abrupt and couldn’t seem to care less. After ordering, we didn’t see her again until our food came. I had the Caesar salad with chicken, very basic, nothing exciting. My husband and brother both had burgers, both of which were overcooked. My parents shared the crab cakes and gouda quesadilla. This is a three star for the simple fact that they really enjoyed their dishes. The crab cakes were much smaller than expected but were apparently very filling. The quesadilla came with a jalapeño mousse my dad raved over. But once again, we didn’t see our waitress until she brought the bill. Drinks were dry and we had all very blatantly been finished eating for ten minutes. I had high hopes, but we won’t be returning. The food wasn’t enough to off put the poor service.

First time to Tavern on South in celebration of one of our colleague’s birthday. Didn’t know that reservations are not taken for outside seating. However, we were seated in front by big windows so we were able to enjoy the sunshine. At times wait staff was slow and not enough folks on hand to handle the lunch crowd. Our waitress seemed to be a stretched in the number of tables she needed to serve. She only answered to our questions, not really offering up any suggestions or expanding on the menu. The pork taco portion was just the right size, a bargain for $ 7.95-lunch special-3 tacos. Sweet potato fries were excellent and really the highlight of the lunch menu. The bison burger is very very large-could actually be shared-the pizza crust was just a tad too thin and was more of a cracker style than thin crust. Nice portion of salmon added to the Tavern salad-cooked very nicely-flakey. The Indiana salsa was a nice starter to lunch-not too much garlic or spices. Nice to have its own parking lot-but in agreement with another reviewer-it fills up fast. Beer and wine selection seem quite large and several option choices available.

I came here with my girlfriend because we purchased a Groupon a while back. The Groupon was for an appetizer and 2 entrees. The beer selection was mostly local and the day we went it was $ 1.5 off any Indiana beers. The place is small and provides a romantic intimate feel which is great for a date night. The service was as friendly as anywhere else that you’d expect good service at. So far no complaints! The food: I’ve heard about the Crispy Duck Wings($ 8.50) being very delicious there, so I wanted to try that. Since my girlfriend is a Pescatarian(Vegetarian who eats fish), she could not try any and ordered the Crab Cakes($ 12) for herself. I tried a bite of the crab cakes and they were fantastic! The duck wings were… underwhelming. I may have hyped them up in my mind quite a bit, but in the end, they were simply fattier wings that were breaded and fried similar to Hooter’s wings. I wasn’t impressed with them at all. They do have a choice of sauce to dip them in, and I recommend the Teriyaki over the Buffalo. For entrees, my girlfriend got the Flounder stuffed with Crab($ 23) which was actually a piece of flounder wrapped around a crab cake. This would probably have been much better if we hadn’t just eaten two crab cakes but fortunately the crab cakes were delicious. She enjoyed her meal but did not jump for joy for the meal. I had the«Death» by Blue Cheese($ 29) which was a Filet crusted with Blue Cheese, with Blue Cheese Mashed Potatoes, Blue Cheese Green Beans and a Blue Cheese«Truffle» which was basically a deep fried piece of Blue Cheese. My steak which I ordered Medium Rare, came out Medium unfortunately, but that is OK, I’m fine up to Medium in terms of redness, after that I’d have to send it back. Unfortunately, the cuts of meat they use must not be great as it was not even remotely close to tender like a filet should be. I even had a silver vein in my cut which is odd for any decent cuts of Filet. I imagine this was choice, or maybe select as opposed to prime cut. The mashed potatoes were delicious and flavorful. The green beans were normal green beans and I could not taste the blue cheese element to them. Finally the«Truffle» was absolutely amazing… but then again, how could a fried piece of blue cheese go wrong? Think Jalapeño popper with Blue cheese and no Jalapeño and that is what you get. All in all I’m glad I experienced this place and was happy with most elements, but unfortunately with it being so far from where I live, the fact I believe it is a bit overpriced, and the fact it didn’t wow me out of my pants… I doubt I’d be coming here again. It just didn’t draw me in enough to become a staple on my list.

Tavern on South is a good place to go after work for Happy Hour drinks and appetizers. There beer and wine menu is extensive and they have a lot of good appetizers for sharing. Their sandwiches/entrees are nothing special, but they are pretty good. It’s kind of hard to park here. If you don’t get in their main lot, there are spots where you can double park. Always kind of awkward to wait for the host to figure out who parked you in. There is also a paid garage around the corner if you’re desperate. My recommendation, skip it if you can’t find parking right away. It’s not worth the headache.

Hung out at the bar for a social gathering. Nice place, but the parking lot is full fast! Luckily there’s that lot down the block, but it’s a couple of bucks. Pretty good drink selection. I ordered a bison burger with french fries(couple bucks extra to upgrade from chips — enough to pay for parking!). The sauce is sweet and tangy. The burger was cooked as I asked which is outstanding! Nice ambiance would go back for sure

Our group of four was in town for a convention and we saw this place a block from the Colts stadium. On a Thursday at 1:15pm there was no wait to be seated. The décor, seating, and everything else is nice. Everything is clean, which is also a big plus. The four of us really just were not overly impressed all that much with the food. I did have the buffalo duck wings, which I do have to admit were very good. If you’re going to try anything here out of the ordinary, try the duck wings. The food wasn’t bad, don’t get me wrong, it just wasn’t all that and a bag of chips. Our group reported a bill of $ 90(including tip), which I guess is what you’re going to pay to eat a block from the stadium on a Thursday.

I’ve been to tavern on south a handful of times for both lunch and dinner. The food has always been delicious and well presented. But, my opinion of the overall establishment varies from lunch to dinner. I keep going back when they offer groupons, but I still don’t feel like I’m getting a good value for dinner. Lunch: great specials and prices. If you go with the special, you are looking at about $ 10 with tip for a filling lunch. Dinner: the pieces are too high. It feels like a sports bar, the servers don’t know anything about the beer, and the food you get is priced as if you were at some of the top spots in Indy. $ 19 for meatloaf with a small, small side of green beans? Seriously? I know it’s «filet mignon meatloaf», but come on. At least pile on the veggies. Overall food: the pizza and sweet potato fries are amazing. The meatloaf was tasty, but the bison burger is where it’s at. I just wish they had more than brioche buns(which I despise). On the plus side, all bread is scratch made each day. The biggest downfall is service. It’s never very attentive and the severs don’t seem very knowledgeable about the menu or drink options. During my last visit I asked if they had a specific beer and the waitress handed me her handwritten list of what was on tap. She did earn a bonus point by stopping us from leaving after dinner because they just tapped a keg of 3 Floyd’s zombie dust. Overall, I want to give them 3.5 stars, but I don’t want to do it badly enough to round up to 4. I’ll probably be back, but not in the immediate future.
