Always a great choice, staff is always great, the food is just what you would expect from a family owned business thats been around since my parents were my age! It’s hearty, filling, and of course huge portions, now lets get to the catch of the place, the beer. Over 500 beer choices, a chance to get your name on a golden plaque, a true southern hospitality community, family friendly and they are always happy to see you the next time around!

For craft beer lovers and domestic beer lovers both, simply put, this is the coolest place south of downtown Indy in the entire state of Indiana to order a drink… Excellent food, as well.

Went here today with my friend for lunch. The hostess seemed to be in a horrid mood, ignoring us for about 5 minutes while we awkwardly stood at the front of a fairly empty restaurant. When we were about to just walk over to the bar, she finally came up to us and grumpily asked about the number in our party. I was glad when she left because nothing spoils an appetite like a sour personality. Seriously, if you can’t be pleasant, you should probably work in the back… as a dishwasher or something. Our actual server was great though, very attentive and friendly. But on to the important stuff! I got the peanut butter stout, which I LOVED but my friend didn’t because he said it was too peanut butter-y. We shared a half order of their chips, which is huge. The chips weren’t very warm and some pieces were soggy. Gross. The crispy ones were fine to eat, but lukewarm soggy chips were just full of old grease and sad. I wouldn’t have highlighted them as a Shallo’s specialty when Lay’s or Pringles would have been better to eat(and I don’t even like those chips!) We also ordered the Shallo’s burger, which is a solid burger. I got some wings, which are supposed to be some of the best wings in Indy, and while they were pretty good, they didn’t blow me away. Overall, it’s a pretty standard American restaurant was very average food. I would come back for that beer though.

Great beer selection and my favorite place to go for wings. I haven’t been disappointed with anything on their menu except if you’re a tea toddler. The ice tea is very murky. 2 tea stars but you go for the wings and beer, at least I do.

Shallos has been around for a long time for good reason — I’ve never once had a disappointing meal here. Most will tell you that the amazing beer selection and the homemade potato chips are the main draw, but for me it’s their steamed vegetables. The broccoli is always fresh and green(most every other restaurant has weepy brown slop) and the carrots and cauliflower is just as good. Served with a bowl of grated cheddar and a bowl of ranch, it’s amazing.

Interesting place with a great beer selection. Food was ok but the service was not. Wings were as good as advertised. Wasn’t amazed by the swamp sauce. I would go back but would hope to get a different server.

** updates review Last time we rated this a 5 star — sent back to watch a packet game and no longer felt it deserves a 5 Service not great. Our waitress was more concerned with getting off her shift, made us check out early and wasn’t attentive. Everything was slow, and the tvs went out 2x, with no one attempting to fix it until patrons were actually yelling about it. Almost didn’t acknowledge the free chips offered on Unilocal. Not a great experience

Amazing service and food. My fish and chips were the best that I ever had! I will definitely go back. I can’t wait to have a burger.

We just stopped in here for a quick drink after a football game on a Friday night. If you are a beer snob, this is a must stop for you. The list of beers is a mile long! Cozy bar area and large dining area. We had mozzarella sticks which were on point and as good as bar mozzarella sticks. I enjoyed them very much. Wait staff was friendly, efficient and not overbearing.

This place is awesome. The decorations are really cool. BUT I want to rave about the blonde bartender my boyfriend and I encountered. I REALLY wish I could remember her name. I asked her for suggestions, and she told me to try Wild Blue beer. It was a wonderful suggestion, but she also conversed with me whenever she could, and we ended up talking to each other like we had been close friends for a long time. She gave the service that will be the reason I keep coming back.

What a cool place!!! When we were pulling up to the Mapquest location, I had to do a double-take and make sure I was reading the sign right… An antique brewhouse in a strip mall? Yep! Thats right folks — and holy cow — once you step inside — you won’t believe it! The walls are lined with antique décor and old bar taps.(Awesome!) And their beer list is INCREDIBLE! One of the best I have seen in the entire town of Indianapolis… actually… I take that back… Probably THE best. Period. They sort their beers by geography and have everything you can think of! If you go here and cannot find a beer you like, I think it is time you start looking into other beverages moving forward. Its hard for me to personally comment on the food — since I don’t eat meat, and like many other brewhouses, there was not a ton of vegetarian options — but the pasta which I ended up ordering was decent. And everyone else at my table got swamp burgers, or swamp chicken and loved it! This place is incredible! Its a do not miss sort of place — and I am positive we will be visiting more often!

I like Shallo’s. Chicken nachos don’t come in a pile. They are actually neatly, individually filled on each chip and loaded with shredded cheese. It was almost like shredded chicken bbq nachos. You must try the Pink Nipple beer mixed there. Grapefruit like… I loved it.

This is a very interesting place. From the outside(if you can even find it), it doesn’t look like much. It’s in a strip mall next to Old Tyme Pottery. And the strip mall isn’t even visible from the street. When you walk up, you wonder what you’ve gotten yourself into. It really looks like some dive bar that you wouldn’t go into unless you knew someone. However, once you get past the exterior, you will find out you made the right choice. The whole place is like a museum of beer. You could spend an hour just walking around(there’s an upstairs too) looking at all the vintage beer paraphernalia. Service is extremely friendly and they make sure you never see the bottom of your glass/bottle. And, boy do they have beer. They have your usual rotation selection of local breweries on draft as well as the macros. But the true stars here are the bottles. They have hundreds of obscure beers that would take you years of regular visits to sample them all. It sure would be fun to try… Food is no afterthought either. The French onion soup is one of the best in the city.

The food was amazing. We had the wings — and they were some of the best I’ve ever had. Completely impressed with the beer selection, too. Total surprise.

Known for their vast beer menu and engaging leaderboard system, this place is a neighborhood icon. Their food is slightly above average for a bar menu, like homemade dressings and sauces. Their fish and chips are probably my favorite of anywhere I’ve ordered them from. As far as origin and freshness are though, I’m not sure. It is a bar after all. It has a unique atmosphere and definitely worth a trip, or multiple trips. The bartenders are smart and great at their craft. The place can get quite busy and packed on the weekend nights especially during sporting events.

A dive bar if I ever saw one! A local late night hangout is how I would describe Shallos. When I want to meet a few friends for drinks in Greenwood, this is where we come. A comprehensive beer list categorized by country of origin has my OCD/beer snob heart all a flutter. Ps. If you’re looking for a classic, they make a mean snake bite(half Guinness, half cider.) I’ve tried a few of their entrees, and while nothing blew me away, I find the comfort/pub food to be just what I need on late night beer hangs with friends. Their fried pickles are great for snacking! The atmosphere is very laid back and the staff has always been attentive and on it when it comes to drink refills.

This place has been a fixture for me for as long as I’ve lived in Greenwood. The first time I was brought here I was pleasantly surprised. A beautiful restaurant full of history and dark wood situated in the middle of an Indiana strip mall? Apparently. The food here is good. Twice baked potatoes? Yuuuuuum. Steak tips are tender and flavorful. The wings truly are delicious. Their beer list hasn’t been surpassed yet(that I know of). The service here has been going way downhill. They never have enough people staffing the bar, so you’re kind of up a creek whether you’re at a table or sitting at the bar. Wait times for drinks have been going up steadily until tonight, when there was one harried server fixing drinks for the entire(huge) restaurant. We sat for 40 minutes without so much as eye contact. With such good food and such a great beer list, I would hate to write Shallos off completely. I recommend going during off days and times, though, unless you have hours to wait. Either that, or hope for a new manager.

Went here for my 21st birthday dinner. The atmosphere was great and had a very vintage feel to it. The waitstaff was decent for the size of the party we had. The beer selection was phenomenal. Shallos is known for having one of the largest craft beer selections and I love craft beer. The food was sub par. I got the taco nachos and my taste buds were not liking the nachos. The chicken was bland and so were the chips. I’m a huge fan of nachos and they did not live up to my expectations.

This place has been around forever. I used to go here as a kid. I’ve just kind of forgotten about it. I mean without the«Airway» to draw me, it’s not the most appealing location. If you don’t know what that means, you are too young :) The homemade chips are really tasty. The«sauce» is just ranch, but I thoroughly enjoyed devouring them. I had a jerk style burger(Swamp Burger). It was pretty good. Cooked perfectly, nice and juicy. Our service was on point. I will definitely go here more often now that my memory has been refreshed.(Even without Airway)…
