Listen, I like this Ruth’s Chris location. We’ve had quite a few good meals sitting at the bar which is our preferred spot. But, there’s been enough service hiccups that I feel a review is warranted. Let’s get a few things out of the way. The food is always solid. But you know what? At their price point you’re paying for that consistency. And I’m ok with that. What I’m not ok with is getting ambivalent service at that price point. It seems like they have some attrition/turnover issues with the bar staff/servers. I realize continuity in the operation is affected by that, but when you’re spending $ 200 or so for dinner and drinks, that’s going to generate some feedback. Ten minute waits before empty drinks are acknowledged and a male customer bias(umm…hey female bartender, you should be acknowledging my wife who is paying the tab) is not ok. There seemed to be no system the last few times between the bar backs, the bartender(only one), and the bar servers to ensure attentive service. I get that regulars will always get preferential treatment, but this is not a local pub, this is high end eating/drinking. It doesn’t need to be «special», it just needs to be consistent and courteous.

Very typical Chris location so I am a little surprised they rated so low in comparison to the other locations. Maybe it is because of the 86th street location and the expectations are much higher, who knows. I have only been to this location two times and thought the experience well worth the price, I prefer St. Elmo’s and Sullivans over Chris, but still a very good steak. They nail it every time on cooking the steak to my medium rare preference. Service is always impeccable and the surroundings nice though a bit stuffy for my taste. But of course it is a standard Chris location so they are following the rule book. Definitely will be back.

I hate to do this, considering Ruth’s Chris’ food is amazing. But, we just moved to the area and the first time we dined in house, we were left waiting in the waiting area for half an hour. Finally, a manager came up and asked if we were waiting for a table. We explained how we put our name in 30 minutes prior and watched as everyone else was sat. He offered up a measly sorry and that was that. Our server, however was fantastic. Then, today we called to make a carry-out order at EIGHT: THIRTY-ONE. The lady put us on hold for a few minutes and came back to tell us the kitchen closed at 8:30 and the restaurant closes at 9.

Well, this place is expensive, but that’s the price you pay for USDA«prime» steak. I had the 16-oz rib eye. It was cooked to perfection and resting in a pool of butter(highly unhealthy but delicious). My fiancée ordered something similar and it was just as good. The thing to keep in mind here is the price. Pretty astronomical. But we had a gift card and went crazy. We ordered way too much food, and kept the drinks coming like it was the early 1920s.(We had a good time.) Our waiter, Chris, was excellent. Absolutely no complaints at all. He was cordial, funny, and very professional. Every other employee we encountered was equally as professional and kind. These folks set the benchmark for service and quality. My only suggestion would be backing off of the salt on the steak. I’m not a steak chef or aficionado, but my steak had just a little more salt than I prefer. Again, this could be personal preference. I would come here again. The food was great, and the service was unparalleled.

I went here this evening for a family birthday party We were greeted by a girl who was giving us water but said our waiter would be there shortly. 10 min later he or she still hadnt shown. Brad finally came by and asked for our drinks. He completely ignored and didnt take one of our groups drink orders. Brad than realizes this only when everyone has a beverage except for one. We also had a severe nut allergy in our group. We asked what they could have and was told when you order I can ask, otherwise i dont know. The best part was after ordering informing all of us the entrées selected were fine but the bread might not be. No offense, i understand how annoying having an allergy can be but if people are offered bread they might want to know the allergy consequences before trying to eat it. Brad was late with refill drink orders and apparantly didn’t number the table guests correctly because all of us recieved the wrong food in front of our places. I will not be coming back any time soon if this is a normal every day occurance at this establishment

Something has happened to this restaurant. New manager? New orders from HQ? Visited 42316, 6 p.m. Have been happy every time before. Waiter was nearly incomprehensible, unshaven, inattentive, mumbled, and used poor grammar. Long wait for bar service. When we sit down and order a drink, we want it NOW. Rosemary/raspberry cosmo was sans rosemary. Replaced at my request, but still. For the prices, one might expect perfection. My drink was OK, not exactly what I ordered. The crab cakes were fine as was the filet. The grilled Brussels sprouts were an odd, overcooked travesty. Total bill with two drinks was $ 108. Sorry, the experience, service, food was not what we expect for $ 108. One more time, maybe, then we switch to the Capitol Grille or ??? The kids parking the cars were nice.

Stopped in for dinner with my wife. The restaurant is amazing. First class all the way. Our server and helpers were on top of their A game the entire time. The food was great. Had bbq shrimp as an appetizer and loved. Salads, filets, desserts were great. Great place.

This steak house in middle of the road for me. I visited the restaurant for my husband’s birthday recently and it was just«okay». The thing that bothered me the most was the temperature of my food. I like my food hot and everything seemed warm, not hot. Ruth Chris is no Capital Grill but it will suffice if you’re in the mood for a steak.

While this business has been around for a year and a half, we don’t get to the north side very often. We finally made the trip with our wonderful friends for Valentine’s Day and here wasn’t a thing on the menu that I wouldn’t recommend. Ahi tuna, stuffed chicken breast, bone-in filet, salads, dessert… you simply can’t go wrong here. I ordered a chocolate martini that would blow you away and their blood orange lemon martini was every bit of citrus and sweet. I will tell you, though, make sure you get reservations. This place gets packed very fast. Grab a drink at the bar upstairs or down and snag a comfy seat in one of the sitting areas while you’re waiting on your table. We loved it and will definitely be back for round two.

Because we hosted a family Thanksgiving for 40 people the weekend before and for 20 people the weekend after, we were so excited to spend our first Thanksgiving as a married couple in an intimate setting where we could be served while recovering from one family gathering and preparing for the next. We’ve been to the downtown location many times and I had been to the old North side location a couple of times, but neither of us had been to the new North side location we’d heard so much about. The service was definitely as exceptional as expected, the ambiance romantic(but, not quite as romantic as the downtown location) and the food was very good. We started with the lobster bisque and crab cakes and I must admit, after having what I consider the best, I am a bit snobbish when they don’t meet the standard set. Both were very good, but not the best we’ve ever had. For our entrees, I made a mistake and got the traditional dinner offered that day. I thought I would miss having turkey on Thanksgiving Day if I didn’t, but when my husband fed me bites of his amazing(so tender and full of flavor) steak… I knew I missed out even more. I’ve never had a bad(not even mediocre) steak at any Ruth’s Chris location. Consistently one of the best steaks I have ever had over and over again. Our waiter was very attentive without being annoying, making this Thanksgiving one of the best I’ve ever had. We’ll definitely be back again, sometime.

LOVE the downstairs bar /outside seating area — great people watching in both spots. I’d love it if they had a few more vegetarian options besides french fries and mashed potatoes, but hey, this is a steakhouse, after all. Every server we’ve had there has been awesome and attentive, but not overly so.

Ruth Chris never ceases to disappoint me. We arrived 10 minutes late for our reservation at 8:45. At around 9:00 the pace had definitely slowed down at the hostess stand and there were 3 individuals behind the desk. We apologized and stated the name of our party where the hostess proceeded to say«well I didn’t think you were coming so I cancelled your reservation– now you will have to wait.» Considering our tardiness we would have had no problem waiting. But as far as first impressions were concerned– she was rude, did not make us feel special– at all, nor did I find the tone of her response appropriate… It was irritated and mouthy. Did I mention that it was my birthday and they knew that upon our reservation? We went upstairs to the bar and ordered a bottle of Opus One. The gentleman at the bar was pleasant and accommodating. The wine however was far too cold. We were given a booth. The table was lovely. However our waitress was newish and quirky. There was no polish to her or her presentation whatsoever. She proceeded to tell us an inappropriate story about patrons who bring dolls to the restaurant– she stated that they are usually couples who can’t have children and they cut up food for the dolls and place it on a plate– like they are alive. It was such a strange story, had zero context, and if I had fertility struggles and this young, uncouth waitress, was mocking the coping mechanisms of others I would have been less than thrilled. We asked for a decanter and it arrived after 10 minutes and we had to ask a second waiter for the same thing. We ordered a bottle of champagne Schramsberg blanc de blanc to drink while our wine opened up. The young waitress kept offering a «taste» — and she would put the bottle on ice. Why wouldn’t she pour a full glass? Because the«last» bottle of this champagne wasn’t cold enough to serve– they should have stated that and let us order something else! We ordered a porterhouse for 2, creamed spinach, corn, crimini mushrooms and a tasting sauce plate. The steak was boring but perfectly cooked. The spinach bowl was warm the actual spinach completely cold! The corn wasn’t salted… And the crimini mushrooms which we ordered to go on top of the steak arrived 15 minutes into our dinner. Awesome. To top everything off we faced the door to the kitchen where I watched the staff stand around and whip each other in the butt with table cloths. Well… We didn’t stay for dessert. It certainly wasn’t worth the $ 500 we spent and I won’t be back. Save your money and your tastebuds… Go to St. Elmo’s.

I attended the Summer White party on their patio. It was a beautiful event in the evening where everyone is to wear a white outfit. The burning fireplaces were neat. The patio still was a bit too dark. The furniture matched the night, and someone bumped into the black coffee table. The cobblestone made it difficult to move in heels. Their half-priced appetizers(some alcoholic drinks too) were enticing. The salmon chips sounded good, but I chose the Cajun steak bites without the bleu crumbles for $ 8. My well-done steak was overly done, which could have caused my Cajun taste to not be strong. It came with onions and toasted garlic bread. The ladies’ bathroom was outstanding. A mirror was on the inside and outside of the stall’s door. This Ruth Chris is much better looking than the previous one around the corner.

Darn it, I just hate having a bad enough experience at a nice restaurant that I feel compelled to Unilocal about it. If I didn’t have such high expectations for Ruth’s Chris as set by previous dining experiences there, it wouldn’t be as bad… First of all, I will say the ambiance and décor at this new location are stunning! The staff are also very attentive and friendly. But for our experience yesterday, it basically ended there. We went on Sunday to celebrate my brother’s 17th birthday and my 5-year wedding anniversary. We were there for nearly 3 hours, and not because we wanted to be! My brother had school at 7:30am the next day, and I had to be at work at 7:00am the next day myself. We did not intend to be there until well after 9pm(and could have been later had I not gotten my dessert to go) when we arrived at 6:45pm! My mom may have set a negative tone when she jokingly complained about the small wine pour. The waiter then took her wine glass AND mine and kept them for about 10 minutes, only to bring them back with basically the same amount of wine in them? That was our first unnecessary delay. The next bummer was the amount of time between the appetizers and the salads(15 minutes maybe), all the while I am staring at my watch beginning to wonder how tired I will be today… which is pretty darn tired. My spinach salad was not that great but, who cares, it’s a salad. The gumbo my husband got was amazing, and my brother really liked his caprese salad. The calamari was pretty good, although not crispy due to the coating of sweet-and-sour sauce. Everyone liked the fried oysters but me. My mom ordered fries assuming they’d be the usual shoestring and was surprised when they came out as standard fries(no clarification from the waiter when she ordered); they fixed this promptly and courteously though. Here’s the worst part: my steak was WAY overcooked. I’m pregnant, so ordering a medium-rare steak is a treat I rarely get to do, unless I am eating at a very upscale place. To my extreme dismay, my steak was medium-well — I mean hardly any pink at all. My lucky husband ordered the same exact thing, but his cut was thicker, and that is why I believe his was properly cooked yet mine was not. But it seems a novice mistake, to misjudge cooking time based on weight and not consider thickness… By this point in the meal, I was exhausted and uncomfortable from having sat there so long already that I didn’t want to go through the process of sending it back, having the manager come out, and waiting for another one while everyone else ate their entrée, so I just didn’t eat it. My step-dad gave me some of his medium-rare steak, which he had ordered medium, so some of it was too rare for his taste anyway. I have not yet tried the dessert that we ended up taking to-go because it was so late, but it did look good! I suppose that’s the gist of the experience. I don’t know that our experience there was typical, but that’s how the cookie crumbles sometimes.

My first visit to this location was somewhat unusual because it was for a fashion show. Yes, a fashion show on their patio. Who would have thought something like that would work? Fortunately, it did! It was a bit chaotic and at times difficult to find a staff member to take our order, but it was totally understandable. The show was delayed due to the storm, so the staff was doing the best that they could to prepare the area once the storm was over. I was mostly in the bar and patio area. Both areas were beautiful! I mean this place is stunning! They offered $ 5 drink specials so I had to try the Bellini. Perfect except it was a tad messy because the flute was overfilled. I was über hungry. Their bar menu was limited, so I ordered a burger. Wow! The burger and fries were delish! I’m not a huge burger fan, but I was definitely pleased even considering the $ 15 price tag. I was stuffed about half way through. All in all, I had a fabulous visit! Great food, atmosphere, and fashion show by Profyle Boutique. I can’t wait to return for maybe a Happy Hour or hopefully they will participate in Northside Nights!

The dinner started off on a cold note, the AC was blasting on us the entire time and it was freezing. I asked for it to be turned down during the beginning of service, but I didn’t feel the change until we left. The interior is nice, but since the space is so huge the service can be sporadic. I didn’t really feel like we got attentive service especially for the price we paid. We had to wait awhile to even get the check even though our table had cleared out(granted this was on a Friday night, but if anything there should be more servers working). So in terms of food, the salads are about $ 10 – 15 and more of a single serving size. We got the Signature Chopped salad and the Caesar Salad. They were both underwhelming, I should have taken pictures but the Caesar salad was just whole romaine lettuce leaves with little flavor(DON’T ORDERTHIS) and the chopped salad was more like upscale coleslaw(DON’T ORDERTHESALADSHERE). It was just ok. The steaks were good, supposedly the highest grade. However, it doesn’t justify the price if it isn’t dry aged. You’re basically paying for the name and the 500 degree plates. Also, there are certain sides that should be ordered. Don’t order the asparagus, it’s bleh. I liked the interior of the place, but to justify the prices there has to be something outstanding. I’ve been to other steakhouses in Indiana and in NYC, the steaks are good but not worth the premium. Also: When we made the reservation, they asked us if it was for a special occasion and I told them we were celebrating a birthday and graduation. I guess they forgot or there was nothing of mention. Not sure if I have to remind them or buy extra dessert. Didn’t really see the point of asking in the reservation if there was nothing as a result. 2.5 stars rounded down. Won’t be coming again.

First of all this place looks gorgeous! It’s a huge improvement from the previous North side location. Your greeted with a large open lobby with a huge staircase, bright marble floors, and a huge sexy bar that seduces you in for a drink. On a rare occasion I like a fancy ambiance and Ruth’s Chris has just that. If you want to impress someone this would be a great place to do it. Confession, I am not a huge steak consumer and steakhouses are normally not my pick for dining, but I was very impressed with Ruth’s Chris. I came here for my company holiday party. We had a private room on the second floor. It was surprisingly really large with lovely views of the wine cellar and city. There were approximately 30 people in our group and our team of servers did an exceptional job waiting on us hand and foot. Top notch in my books! Lemme get two claps and a Ric Flair for them! We had a pre-fixed meal with choice of Ribeye, Salmon, or Chicken. I selected the Ribeye because why would you get anything other than steak at a steak house? It was cooked perfectly and it cut like butter. Amen. My negatives would be the side dishes. The creamed spinach was a bit under cooked and the starter steak house salad was lackluster. However, the dessert duo of fresh berries & cream and a chocolate bowl stuffed with chocolate moose was a delightful end to the meal. If I found myself in a fancy mood I would probably return with friends at the bar for Happy Hour(food and drinks) for $ 8 Monday-Friday.

The steaks are probably the best in town. The sides are good, but not the best. I was disappointed with the mushrooms. They were undercooked and had very little flavor. The service here is average for a restaurant, but definitely under for what I would expect at a steakhouse at this price point. I have recently been to Seasons 52 and Harry and Izzy’s and both of those places were stellar. This just did not measure up. It took a while for someone to come to the table, forever to put in our order, and we were not checked on that often. This has happened before and if the restaurant is reading, PLEASE do something about this. When someone orders a beer and it is the end of the keg, come back to our table to get our order instead of waiting until the keg is changed. We waited nearly 15 minutes to put in our food order.

Seriously, hands down… best Ruth’s Chis in the country. After all, it’s the biggest Ruth’s Chris in the nation to begin with. It’s so nice and modern, not your typical stuffy steakhouse. However, the décor still has lots of brown tones to it as well as the infamous leather booth so it still somewhat reminds you that it’s a steakhouse. Convenience factor of this place is pretty good. Valet parking is available. Plenty of lot parking. They have an elevator for their second floor. Bar is right behind the hostess stand. Awesome outside space. As for service, it’s just excellent overall. The managers have been there for years. Super prompt service. Very friendly and knowledgable about the food and drinks. Their lemon drop martini is amazing!!! Must try. Delish! My favorite is their ribeye. I like my steak marbled. My hubby likes his all meat and no fat so he typically gets a filet. Ruth’sChris seriously have the best steaks n town. They say it’s the sizzle. They say it’s the butter. Whatever it is, I can’t go to other steakhouses anymore. Ruth’s Chris pretty much ruined it for me because really do have the best in town.
