Read about this place from nice reviewers like you. Tried it out on a Tuesday afternoon/evening. Food was so good I finished up my sandwich and walked around and ordered another — to the surprise and delight of Nancy behind the counter. What the place lacks in décor — it certainly makes up for in excellent food and great service. I’m only in town for a couple days, but I will be back for their signature Roast Beef sandwich. So juicy and cooked just right. Also, what struck me the most was that not a single bite — in two sandwiches in a row — has any grizzle or thick tendon in the roast beef. A welcome change from cold cut sandwiches from my youth.

Want a spectacular sandwich in the style only a carny could make? Then check out Heine’s… it should already be world famous. Oh! try one of the giant cookies.

Excellent beef Manhattan, and she let me substitute cookies for my other two sides. Worth the visit.

Awesome. Perfect little owner operated place to eat. Great sides, awesome roast beef. Hamburgers are very good as well.

How could we not try a place with such a great name? We stopped in on a Saturday to see if they could live up to the name and were not disappointed. Heine’s is one of those places that you wouldn’t notice as you head down Madison. But inside that little building is some great food. For sandwiches, we ordered the tenderloin, Italian style beef, and(of course) the world famous roast beef. The beef was great — tender and dripping with au jus. The Italian style beef included pepperoncini peppers(which the menu doesn’t mention) that added a nice contrast to the seasoning and provolone cheese. The tenderloin was a nice size, well seasoned, with a nice crunchy exterior. Our sides were: southern style green beans, hot bacon slaw(tangy), onion rings, french fries, and baked beans. For the most part, the sides were good. The hot bacon slaw was a little tangy and didn’t receive high marks. We will definitely be back for more beef and tenderloins!

The roast beef sandwiches are(in my opinion) small, but very tasty. As soon as I finish, I always contemplate getting another. This place is definitely a Mom & Pop shop and is a great stop for lunch if you’re in the area. The menu actually has a pretty nice variety, but I only get the roast beef. What else would I get? It’ll be world famous soon.

We were in the neighborhood and wanted a quick non-chain lunch and luckily remembered all of the times that we’ve driven by this place without stopping. So, we stopped. Cute place with a diner-like atmosphere. Friendly staff comprised of the owners and one other. Quick service. Being our first time we ordered the World Famous Roast Beef and the Italian Style Beef. Tasty, juicy roast beef served on a nicely buttered and toasted sub bun. The WFRB had mayo, pickle & lettuce and the IB had Italian seasonings, grilled onion, provolone and served with some pepperocini slices. Both sandwiches were admirable… heck, pretty good. But World Famous or Soon to Be? Sadly, no. We also ordered a side of potato salad which unfortunately reminded me of grocery store deli potato salad. And, a side of the hot bacon slaw which is a shredded cabbage mixture with a hot aromatic vinegar dressing and pieces of bacon. We really enjoyed this side but you definitely have to like vinegar(we do) to appreciate this salad(we did). I liked Heine’s and would like to return some day to sample some of their other fare. But, for now, I rate them as above average but not the best in town.

Very impressed with the quality, taste and portions they offer. Reasonable prices. Ample space to eat. Not much offered in terms of service — orders were taken and paid for at the registers.

There are businesses out there«I’ve just been meaning to try,» but could never get to… I’m on the Southside on Sundays but Heine’s is closed… so it was all a matter of making it South on a weeknight. There I am… wandering down Madison… running late… and I have exactly 5 minutes to eat before a meeting. And, then… I go one stop light further… and it hits me: Heine’s! Yes! I almost didn’t go because I wanted to give Heine’s a fair shot… so I just went with a roast beef sandwich, and that’s it… anddddd I’d have to eat it while driving(am I in a John Hughes movie?). The fresh roll, the crazy tender beef soaked in the mighty, mighty delectable juice… whoa! I’ll be back very soon, to give a more thorough review… here’s to letting the world know: when you think you don’t have enough time, you can’t really make up your mind… just. get. this. roast. beef. sandwich!

For those Macniven’s MacHattan fans out there– you know not what you miss. Heine’s Beef Manhattan w mashed potatoes and choice of two sides is soooooo good. Really good. Every element is quality– the beef, the potatoes, the gravy/au jus. And very reasonably priced. The original roast beef sandwich is just as good as anything from Chicago and their Italian Style Beef(grilled onions & provolone) is equally awesome. Everything in perfect proportion. Super friendly owners too. The only thing that could improve is the atmosphere. But it’s the kind of real working people, real food place that Guy Fieri would dig. bring your own giardinera. I’m seriously considering asking them if they wouldn’t mind keeping my little jar in their fridge for all my future next times.

I’ve been here twice and it’s been great both times. The roast beef is a thicker cut than Arby’s. It’s very tender. The bread is great. The BBQ sauce wasn’t bad, though I like a less vinegary sauce. I definitely recommend it. The staff was great. One of the owners gave me and my girlfriend tickets to the county fair that they weren’t going to use. And if you’re wondering how they can claim to be «World Famous», their menu says«Soon to be World Famous» :-)

Oh my… the roast beef is off the hook. Hot bacon slaw is the side of choice. Sweet couple runs the place and they really care if you like the food. AND I DID!

My favorite dinner date and I were at a loss for where to eat on Southside before seeing a movie. Traffic was crazy, and he randomly decided to get off the main stretch and hit up Madison. As a stroke of pure luck, we ended up driving by Heine’s WFRB. He turned around as quickly as he could and we decided to give it a try. Another customer saw us staring at the posted menu. He recommended their roast beef sandwich, claiming it was«heaven.» So, we decided to each try one, and split mashed potatoes and gravy and try their fries with chili and cheese on the side(just in case something didn’t work out). The cashier was friendly and very confident we would love their food. And… Holy Smokes! Their roast beef sandwich comes with lettuce, pickle, and mayo, I ordered mine without lettuce(just because that’s how I roll). The roast beef was juicy and the sandwich was perfectly proportioned so you could taste all the ingredients. The hoagie was perfect and not oversized. It made up for an entire week of stress in the first bite. Heaven is a good roast beef sandwich. Who knew? As if the thoroughly delicious roast beef sandwich wasn’t enough, the mashed potatoes and gravy were perfect. The potatoes were just the right amount of creamy, with tiny pieces of un-mashed potato here and there, and the gravy(though a thin one) was full of great beefy flavor. No salt or pepper needed, they are great as they come. If you’re a reader of my reviews, you know I have an undying love for chili cheese fries. I have been hunting for a good batch in Indy as a surrogate for my favorite place in Northern Indiana. And I found it!!! The fries were a deep golden brown, and delicious in and of themselves. They were great with the cheese, great with their chili, and AWESOME with chili and cheese. If I were more hungry, I would have tried their roast beef manhattan dinner. Since the roast beef, mashed potatoes, and gravy are all phenomenal, I can safely say it would be a religious experience. I overheard them having a friendly conversation with a carry-out guest, and I guess they have started to decorate. True, the décor is mostly plain and basic. But honestly, when your service is this nice and the food is this fantastic, you don’t need to worry too much about it. I was so busy enjoying the food I could have been sitting by a dumpster and still be pleased. This is a great place. A nice, casual place to get some really tasty food for a reasonable price. Seriously, this is a must-try. Get yourself a piece of Heine’s!

In the land of chain restaurants(Indy) this was a TREAT. Absolutely the best roast beef in Indy. I also had the southern style green beans VERYGOOD. This is what is missing in Indy — Mom & Pop sandwich restaurants. I will go back again and again. All that view this feedback PLEASE help support mom & pop and NOT chains !!! Drop by, you will not be disappointed. And for the person that wrote a review that the roast beef was microwaved, you provided a false statement. I watched the cook make the sandwich and he did NOT microwave the meat. Everything is homemade and delicious

Anyone who bills themselves as world famous deserves a shot, so I gave them just that. I stopped by and ordered the World Famous Roast Beef Sandwich. The gentleman behind the counter then proceeded to way out some beef and microwave it for me… Yes, World Famous Microwaved Roast Beef. It wasn’t bad, I just didn’t expect the Microwave. The pickle included with my sandwich was a nice touch though.
