Wish Flap Jacks had been around when I was living in Indy. What a great find. A friend took me to breakfast this morning. Reminds me of a big city diner. Clean and a very friendly staff. Although I only had oatmeal and an order of fried biscuits with apple butter(excellent) there were plenty of overloaded plates to let me know that this was the real deal.

I give 4 star for great great pancakes, got to be top 5 I ever had. The country skillet was good. 3.5 star.

You’re never going to get gourmet food when you come to Flapjacks. It shouldn’t be expected! What you will get is A LOT of food for your money, the perfect amount of grease to cure your hangover, and friendly, speedy service. This is the newest location(and it happens to be only minutes from my house!) They are consistent across the board with their food and service. I have no complaints about this place. You just have to take it for what it is: a divey breakfast diner, nothing fancy, and always consistent. You get more food than you would expect for the cost as well! The only thing they could do to make me happier would be to serve a mimosa– I’d be there for every brunch every weekend!

Welp. It was cool. It was nothing spectacular, which luckily for me, I didn’t really expect it to be. But I LOVE breakfast places, so I had an idea of what it MAY taste like. I was thinking perhaps something along the lines of Hotcake Emporium. Well. …let’s just call them a lower grade of Hotcake Emporium. They had GREAT bacon. I always must point out when a pig has been delicately fried to breakfast perfection. They did that right. The interior is huge and open(think Lincoln Square), the staff was friendly and attentive and there was no afternoon rush or long wait for the food. Actually, the food came out rather quickly. I opted for the simple since it was my first time here: pancakes, bacon and eggs w/a side of water & lemon. She put my lemon in a separate container without me asking so that was a win. The pancakes were ok. They are the big fluffy, country thick batter pancakes where one is the equivalent of 2.5! The butter melted right into them(they were piping hot) and made for some good middle pieces, but I have definitely had better pancakes. I have to be in the mood for one pancake to be the thickness of a quarter pound burger. I’m not complaining. I ate as much as I could. Next time, I would try the silver dollar pancakes instead of these. The eggs: meh. The American Cheese I requested lay like a piece of Kraft in a hot car window on top of the eggs. I never really like it when places serve me eggs like that. Perhaps I’m spoiled on Le Peep and First Watch, who each mold their respective cheese into the scramble of your eggs. When it’s just laying on top of the eggs like a bad one night stand full of regrets, it auto-throws off my tastebuds. I ate them. The meal cost me $ 6 plus a tip. I got what a paid for and to be honest, on a hungry day with a little funds, I would go back. I absolutely would. But I might move around the menu and forget to order the cheeseburger pancakes and I’ll definitely skip over the Scrambled Regretful Cheese Eggs.

I tried them a second time for breakfast. Some improvement but still below my expectations. Their goal seems to be to be «ordinary» and they have not yet achieved that. Maybe they can rise to the ordinary restaurant level at some point but it seems to be taking a while. My advice? Skip it.
