Emmetts The Studio

My previous stylist passed away, so I was very pleased to find Douglas at Emmetts! I’ve had numerous compliments on my hair since going to Emmetts and am very picky about who works on my hair since my hair is very gorgeous, shiny and beautiful ;p
Thanks to everyone (Douglas, Thom, Naieem, Emmett) at Emmetts. You guys make getting a haircut enjoyable!

Getting a haircut and color is somewhat exhausting. Why??? the fun banter and cozy and friendly atmosphere keeps me from getting a quick nap when getting my hair done. My hair now has a warm and attractive color, and with the great cut, my hair makes sense. Though it does look best when leaving the salon thanks to Naieem, I seem to be able to manage it quite well after shampooing it at home. He understands hair, style and what works for each customer. And while I am sitting in the shoppe, I observe everyone’s hair looking fantastically unique and their do’s seem to suit them very well.

I had very high hopes for Emmetts based on previous Unilocal reviews. Plus, I live in the neighborhood, so I REALLY wanted it to work out, wanted to love it.
It pains me to say I really did not have a good experience and got a bad, bad haircut to boot. I will say the atmosphere of the studio and attitude of everyone who works there are amazing! But when it comes down to it, a low quality haircut from a high quality establishment is very upsetting.
It all started with me using a Groupon. I called to schedule my appointment. They said the lady who was taking the Groupons was no longer there but that they would honor it, and we made an appointment. A week later they called me to say they had to change the appointment because now I had to see a different person (Thom) but unfortunately, he was out of town, and now I had to delay my haircut by yet another week to a day that I had very little time to squeeze one in.
Ok, fine, and I really needed a haircut:-(I arrived 5 minutes early and ended up waiting almost a half hour! I was in such a rush by the end I didn’t have time to size up the haircut.
Now it is 2 weeks later, and I HATE my hair. It’s close to the worst haircut I have gotten, on par with the quick trim you get a Great Clips when they just wet your hair. Specifically, my hair feels coarse, stringy, and tangly at the ends and has no shape. It doesn’t fall nicely or have that just-​cut smoothness.
Sorry guys, I really wanted it to go better. Now I have to get another haircut because my hair is driving me nuts and I can’t wear it down.
UPDATE 6÷10÷2015. I just wanted to note, I have tried a million different things, and this was 100% the worst haircut I ever had. I have never had a haircut make my hair TANGLIER and actually looking worse than before I got it.
Additionally, no one has reached out to me about my Unilocal review, so apparently, they do not care.

So I’ve been trying to find a new place to get my hair cut somewhat nearby but i had been unsuccessful at finding one that i felt great with… until NOW. Not only did i find a great salon but its 2 blocks away! how cool. i guess that also shows how much attention i pay since they have been there for years and i never noticed.
They are nestled into the last spot in the building that holds The Jazz Kitchen & Yats. They are on the north side of the building and furthest east, facing the fresh market.
The interior of the shop is beautiful. Very bright and simple (a minimalistic feel) with flowers and plants. No big obnoxious chairs with a million of tools and products out at each station. Very simple modern chars with bare counter tops. I think i recall 5 stations and 3 shampoo spots.
The staff was very friendly and all seemed to be very happy to be there. They were all very organized and seemed to mesh well with each other. Emmett was there, had a constant smile on his face and offered some sweets to me. He also made sure to thank me for coming in which was nice to hear.
Tom cut my hair and he is a very nice guy who did a great job. He didn’t treat me as most stylists do with men «cut and go». He took just as much time washing my hair, went over and over scrutinizing his cuts and spent a good time styling my hair and explaining how and what to do. i joked with him and asked if he was getting me ready for prom! he did a really great job! it was cold as crap outside that day but there was no way i was going to put something over my head and mess up that style he did!
I know a guys haircut isn’t complicated but he did a wonderful job.
I cant vouch for a women’s cut or coloring and styling and what not but if you look at all these reviews and research Emmett and Naieem (CEO) they are impressive! They also have a haircare line that i haven’t tried yet but am going to look into (all natural and organic) Emmetts Haircare
I will definitely be coming back here in the future and recommend it to everyone.

Had a great experience here! I only get my hair cut about once a year (I have long curly hair with bangs and I just trim the bangs myself) and had a Groupon for Emmetts. The staff was so nice and very happy — it’s clear they all love what they do. Naieem cut my hair and did a great job and gave me some helpful tips. Will definitely be back!

I could not be any happier with my experience at Emmetts. Everyone there was incredibly nice and fun. Not too mention, Jen cut my hair perfectly. All of them were so willing to help me figure out what I wanted. It was a great experience and I cannot wait to come back.

This place is the best. I traveled from Boston and found this place. Douglas did a great job. Laughed the whole time because of the friendly banter with Naminis. Best time ever at a salon

Get on over to Emmett’s studio and ask Jennifer to do your hair! Not only is she incredibly talented, she is charming, upbeat, friendly, and really sets the stage for the lovely ambience of Emmett’s. She is so well rounded, and has all of the characteristics that a true professional must have to satisfy clients! She can be inventive if need be, or give you that style that you love to rock on the daily! Most importantly she is looking to give you exactly what you are looking for and what’s so miraculous she seems to be able to fulfill that even when you’re not sure what you’re going for! Jennifer is so skillful that she could cut anyone’s hair regardless of age or gender. It’s almost like she’s your best friend because she reflects who you are and who you aim to be through the style. She has transformed the mundane routine of hair cutting and proved that it is an art. Let yourself be the canvas and sit back and watch her work! I’m so grateful for my new hair sizzle and will proudly tell everyone who compliments it to get on over to Jennifer! Thank you so much Jennifer and happy fall!

I had my first visit to Emmets a week ago. I am here from out –of-​state for my father, who is not from this area either, but is very ill.
Douglas cut and styled my hair and he was fantastic. He was so friendly, professional, cheerful, and a gifted artist!
I thought the studio had a great atmosphere; it was such a nice size and offered more personalized attention than most salons provide. Further, it had a lovely design… with a bright, but restful atmosphere.
I really cannot recommend Emmets and stylist Douglas, more highly! NY state has nothing on him/​this studio. The «city» OR upstate!

Today, I had my first visit to Emmett’s. I felt immediately at ease upon entering the doors to the studio. Not only is it a bright, clean, beautiful setting, but everyone there seemed to exude happiness… not only the stylists, but the guests too. I had the good fortune of working with Naieem, a ridiculously talented, careful, and thoughtful artist. He made my first experience there as perfect as possible. I am already looking forward to returning.

My first visit to this hair salon, I know now why so many have recommended it to me. My stylist Doug is truly an artist… he took my vague ideas and gave me the most wonderful haircut, and proceeded to style it also. I could not help but give him a hug. The atmosphere is relaxing but the professionalism of the establishment is so apparent. So bravo Doug and thank you.

I went to emmets, THE STUDIO for the first time and Derrall Gibson was a total rockstar! He is talented, trained with the best in the industry, knew what would work for my face shape and proceeded to give me the best haircut ever! The whole «hair experience» was delightful! Everyone was so friendly, the space is beautiful and Derrall was so fun to chat with. If you’re looking for someone to do a great job with your locks and be super fun, schedule with Derrall!
