Used to be Tacky Turtle. The named might have changed but not the expertly done Cubans. They have 3 flavors, Island being one of them. Unless you want a sandwich for 2 don’t order the 9″, as it’s huge, once all that deliciousness ‘pernil’ seasoned pork and ham are put in. Juicy perfection of 200 degrees hot pressed bread and drippy cheese. Accompanied with sides of yellow rice and black beans -‘I prefer mine together — which is extra. Just wished mine were hot instead of lukewarm.

This café warms my heart! We were on a family holiday trip and stayed walking distance from Kooky Coconut! I still dream about their cuban sambos /pesto cuban sambos! The tacos are lovely as well! & their ice cream hit the spot every time! I am definitely coming back!!!

Great little place. It looks a little shabby but the ice cream is great and the food is even better. The prices are super cheap as well so it’s a great value. This is a classic example of «don’t judge a book by its cover» because it’s phenomenal!

Kooky is awesome, it has free bathrooms, amazing Cubans, cold beer, cold ice cream. what else can you ask for?!? We stopped by for a large Cuban which was shared btwn me and the Husband. We also got walking tacos, which I thought were wrapped up tacos, but it was a super surprise! It was ground meat and all the taco fixings in a Doritos bag. Totally cool! We also got smoothies which tasted delicious and remained cold the entire time we sat outside. I’d suggest coming early, parking behind Kooky. You can use the bathroom throughout he day and stop in for snacks and lunch!

When you order, they give you a beeper. So of course you expect for it to vibrate when your order is ready, but… instead a loud voice comes in over the loud speaker with an announcement: «beeper 19, your order is now ready». They left me confused with that system. Outside and inside seating is available and outside seating has some shade. So there is a sign that the order will take 10 – 15 minutes but if they are busy then as long as 35. Really? I understand beach living, but 35 minutes for a sandwich? All sandwiches come with chips. We ordered a Cuban to share. It was ok but nothing special and priced well above of what I pay at Cuban sandwich shops in Tampa.

The Cuban was definitely four stars but the tacos were nothing special. They were good don’t get me wrong but they were the classic make at home tacos with ground beef, lettuce, tomato and a side of chips and salsa. They have beer which was a pleasant surprise and nice sitting areas outside only. We went about 3PM thinking it would be an easy time but it was packed and took 25 minutes for food… seems like locals remarked it was more than usual.

If we could give zero stars, we would. Moved back to the beach after several years of being on the other coast. Used to walk over and get a tuna on cuban bread, pressed. Was excited to return to get a «tuna cuban». We went in and asked for the tuna on cuban bread, pressed. Was told they«don’t press tuna sandwiches». even though they have cuban bread, tuna, and they press other sandwiches. So, puzzled, I ordered a bean burrito and my husband got a cuban rueben(oddly enough, it was pressed). An old man in shorts, reading a newspaper said, «The old owner was an a**hole and the food is much better now». We sat and waitied for our food. The old man was more interested in the pre-teen girls coming in and staring at them over the top of his newspaper, offering to buy them ice cream. Very creepy to the point my husband even said something to me about it. The burrito was thoroughly disgusting as if they used something rotting. It was nothing but complete mush, very sour, and tasted NOTHING like beans and vegetables etc. that were supposed to be inside. I scraped the tortilla clean and tossed out the inside and ate the tortilla. The bite I took of husbands rueben was good. We wanted ice cream 3 days later and ordered a vanilla to be told, «We don’t have any vanilla». Two days later, my husband went back(not aware I have already black listed this place) and he brought back rueben cubans for us. ZERO sauerkraut ZERO thousand island dressing. NEVER going back. Will send friends and tourists elsewhere to eat.

great place to stop especially right after you’re at the beach. could use more seating inside or at least a little more space but it’s a great place ! cool outdoor seating when it’s warm out. so many different ice cream flavors — toasted coconut is a must try even for those who don’t necessarily like coconut. the island Cuban sandwich is AMAZING

I don’t know about you, but spending a day at the beach has me heading home famished. The problem is that I’m too exhausted to even think about fixing dinner, I’m too salty and windblown to stop at a nice restaurant, and I’m not a huge fan of fast food chains. Insert Kooky Coconut. It is the perfect place to stop after a long day in the sun. It is steps from the sand and has a laid back, rustic, beachy feel to it, so I don’t feel self-conscious about walking inside with my flip flops and slightly soggy sundress. The ice cream was average but a nice treat on a hot day, but the real thing to get here is a Cuban sandwich. You can stick with the original or you can jazz it up with one of their special creations. I’m in love with the Island Cuban which has an extra zing from pesto sauce. Also, the sandwich is huge so you can easily share with a friend. Overall, Kooky Coconut is like a watering hole in a desert. With no other restaurants nearby, it provides a perfect laid-back atmosphere to just hang out, have a few beers, eat some Cuban sandwiches, and finish it off with some refreshing ice cream.

The Kooky Coconut is a small place that catches my eye every time we drive by. We stopped in for dessert and all enjoyed the ice cream. While I would certainly return for a cold treat, I don’t think I’d want to eat a meal here. The kitchen is really small and the whole place looked run down. I personally recommend the Gator Tracks ice cream.

We had the Tampa Cuban and it was wonderful. Got the large and split it between two of us. Very generous portion. We also had the ice cream. The toasted coconut is tremendous. Also loved the salted carmel with praline and peanut butter cup. The ice cream here definitely tastes home made, ultra rich and creamy. This is a great find in the area. You can eat on their pretty patio or take it out.

Nice lil spot — Reuben sandwich was delicious! Coconut ice cream was like crack! The cuban sandwich was not as great as some reviews say it was… would definitely recommend the Reuben over the Cuban but overall I would definitely recommend this spot highly due to it’s coconut ice cream and reasonable prices.

You know that one little food joint you kept going to over and over again growing up? The one that you never get tired of and take your family and friends to every time they visit? Well, i didn’t grow up in FL but if I did then Kooky Coconut would be it and I always take my visiting friends and family there. Just from the outside, this place looks fun and inviting. Dancing hula wearing Santa during Christmas time anyone? You will spot this place from far away with its bamboo leaf roof and no neighboring shops or restaurants. It stands like a lighthouse directing people from far away to come inside. You can either enter from the front sidewalk or the back parking lot. Once inside, you can either get your fix of some really great ice cream or some delicious made-to-order Cuban sandwiches. They also have a mix bag of other snacks like burritos and tacos and… wait for it… a Walking Taco which is a bunch of taco fillings inside a Doritos bag. All the ice cream and food tastes fresh, delicious, and affordable. When you’re in a mood of some really good ice cream, or a sandwich, or some funky Mexican food all served in a very laid-back beach atmosphere then make your way to the always fun and cheery Kooky Coconut.

Kooky’s does not look like much while passing, but I am a fan of their little place. At a glacé they offer burgers, as well as tacos, burritos and quesadillas. But what our real interest was … homemade ice cream. Visiting from Alaska and Illinois, my husband’s family rented out a house on IRB. After we would grill on the beach for dinner, we would walk to Kooky Coconut for ice cream. The inside is a bit tight for a group and looked a little ragged, however they do have an outside seating option as well. I typically indulged in the Cookie Monster ice cream. This included blue vanilla ice cream with cookie dough and crushed Oreos. During the evening, the light breeze off the water, while enjoying ice cream and being in each others company was the best part of our nights!

Kooky Coconut is my sole reason for loving Indian Rocks beach. Ok, fine, that’s probably an exaggeration since it’s a lovely beach – but the fact that this AMAZINGLYYUMMY place is such an easy walk from the beach is what keeps me coming back again and again. They have everything I could want from a hole in the wall beach bar(off the beach). Cold craft beer and wine, local ice cream, and super super tasty food. My favorites, although to be honest I haven’t really branched out, are the coconut shrimp, the Tampa Cuban, and their fries. It. Is. So. Good. With outdoor seating(perfect if you’re wet) and even a few indoor tables, it’s a great way to take a break from the beach. They even have their own parking lot for while you are eating, and best of all it is walking distance from the public beach access – by beach! I love love love this place… it doesn’t feel like a beach day without a stop at the Kooky Coconut!

Parking is a total nightmare! But once inside, you are greeted with a smile and over whelmed with options! Its a small place, they have an ice cream counter, about a dozen flavors, they offer bar food /seafood Coconut shrimp and also self serve bottles of beer from a cooler! Theres about 10 tables out back, and 3 tables inside. The older woman behind the counter was so friendly and welcoming. She offered free samples of the ice cream before ordering. My nephews got thier choices, plain vanilla with rainbow sprinkles and Super Man, which is dyed all sorts of different colors! I got the captains butterscotch! It was like cookies and cream ice cream with a huge butterscotch swirl! oh my god soo good! check this place out — ice cream was delish and the other sandwhiches and bar food looked terrrific! We found this little place while on vacation in tampa — Indian Rocks Beach! Check it out! I took a star off due to horrible parking !
