Guppy’s was so delicious! I had the coconut shrimp, which was so hot, fresh, and delicious! My husband and daughter had fish & chips, which was also crispy & fried deliciousness! The Caesar salad and Peach Moscato Sangria were great too. We sat on the patio and had great service. We were very impressed! Highly recommend this calm & inviting restaurant!

Favorite beach lunch and dinner place of mine. Sit inside or outside to enjoy. Well crafted menu selections. We had the blue crab guacamole appetizer — it was outstanding(one of their most popular items). Be sure to top it with Chef Scott’s Diver Down Hot Sauce(available to purchase). Just the right amount of kick to ramp it up. Next was blackened grouper tacos. You can order a plate of two or three tacos. Comes with fresh fruit of strawberry, pineapple and blackberries. Perfect for summer lunch on a hot day.

I’m born and raised in Florida and not sure why I’ve never been here, but we tried it for the very first time tonight! So glad we did because it was absolutely delicious! My husband ordered the shrimps and grits which was so tasty! The grits were creamy and cheesy! I went with the swordfish and by far we both agreed it was amazing! Just the flavor melted in your mouth! If you’re in the area you need to eat here!!!

Loved it! Found it on Unilocal and because of the rating desired to try it. It was Memorial Day for lunch. My husband me and our 2 girls are visiting Tampa for a graduation trip. My husband had the grouper sandwich blacked. He said it was very good! I had the baja shrimp tacos. The waiter recommend and they did not disappoint. My senior daughter had the octopus. She wanted to trip something new. To her surprise, she loved it. It was not rubbery or tough but was grilled and tender. Would definitely order again. The service was great. Will absolutely recommend and visit next time.

My dad was in Clearwater for a stint and recommended Guppy’s to me and my husband when we were in there for work. The ambiance inside was so-so but the patio was really nice(It was only 80 degrees that evening). We waited 45 minutes for a seat on the patio. I think everyone else had that idea too. We ordered all the specials that night. The grouper and mashed potatoes were good but the octopus carpaccio was the best. It was thinly sliced and served with an aioli sauce. If you happen to order the O.C. ask for no sauce, but a lemon and lime and sea salt instead. It didn’t need the sauce although the sauce was really tasty. Two drinks per person, app, entrees and our bill came to just under $ 75 before tip. Of course you can spend less but if you want to have a good time and really experience the menu you’ll be paying for it.

Guppys is one of the nicer restaurants in the quaint area of IRB. It’s still casual, but a little dressier than most other restaurants on Gulf Blvd. We perused through Unilocal, and the pictures before deciding to dine here on Mother’s Day. I have no complaints with the service, and the quality of the food was very good. However, the one complaint I have is with the portion sizes. I ordered the scallops, solely due to the pictures, and reviews on Unilocal. When my scallops came out, everyone at the table started laughing, and said, «Ha, you’ll be hungry in a few hours.» Yes, actually, I was still hungry when I left Guppys. I have no problem with the pricing either, but 3 dime sized scallops was borderline insulting. As far as others in our group– my stepbrother raved about the swordfish, but he also received a midget sized portion. My dad and stepmom however, loved the chicken, and it was big enough to share. Same with my wife’s grouper, as it was a generous portion. Who knows, maybe it was an off night, but it lacked proper presentation, in my opinion. The quality was a hit, and the service was excellent. I’d like to come back next time I’m in IRB, so I can up this review.

This restaurant was amazing and exactly what my husband and I needed after a perfect sunset for date night! I got lobster bisque to start for a small up charge instead of my salad. Very smooth and rich, Delicious!!! I ordered the grouper with mango salsa, smashed potatoes, and veggies(green beans that particular evening 5-19-2016) … all three items were spot on, out of this world. My husband got the blackened grouper sandwich with French fries… he loved both items also! We also got the warm apple pie with ice cream! very good!

We really liked this place. It really is a notch above without the ‘notch above’ prices. They have outdoor seating that’s covered & has ceiling fans. Their indoor seating is very nice, not a fish shack & when we were there on a hot humid day, the air was really cool! We had a very good server w/a delightful accent. He was spot on w/lots of water refills, remembered all our requests,& came by regularly to check on us. We came early on a Sat. night to beat the crowd & by 6 it was packed out. Another nice thing is that they have complimentary valet service. Food: –all delish. We ordered 2 appetizers, a fried soft shell crab & Hubster always loves calamari. Both were excellent & the calamari was a very generous portion. I splurged & ordered their lobster(after discussing my choices w/the server). He said they were tender & small so I ordered the twin tails, but they were huge probably 8oz.(no problem) It came with 2 sides & I had garlic mashed potatoes(very garlicky) & spinach for my veg. It also came w/caeser salad & bread & herb oil. Sooooo much food! Hubster ordered oysters & slaw because his calamari was so big. They were good & he said even the slaw was very good. I had him help me with mine & I still took home one of the tails! The best part of ordering my dinner, twin tails for $ 39! Definitely will be back!

Grouper Piccata was quite good. The kitchen was slow, but the wait staff was excellent. Clearwater isn’t exactly a food paradise, so it was nice to find some quality(aka not deep fat fried) sea food. Ate here four nights in a row and will definitely return next time I am on business in Clearwater.

Such a fun dinner with a group of friends. We made a reservation for 14 and were accommodated in a little tucked away nook behind the hostess area. it was perfect for us! Our server was friendly and attentive. The drinks were tasty and the food was very good. Everyone really seemed to enjoy their time. It’s about a street and a parking lot away from the beach front and while you can’t see the beach, it has a fun vacation vibe that lets you know the sand is close. I’d say the atmosphere is casual but shirt and shoes are required and you’ll want to shower off the sand before you go. Great experience!

This was our third time at Guppy’s because we frequently vacation in Redington Shores. We had a fabulous experience. Our server was top-notch and friendly. To start with, they brought out bread and delicious olive oil. I had the grapefruit mojito, a Caesar salad, and the shrimp pasta. My husband had an old-fashioned bourbon, the beet salad, and the jerk-rubbed grouper with mango salsa. We shared the upside down apple pie with the brown sugar cinnamon ice cream for dessert with decaf coffee. The managers came around a few times to ask how we were enjoying ourselves. The best part was when we got the bill– only $ 62 for all of this. We were expecting a $ 90 bill. Guppy’s batted 1000 tonight.

This is the finest dining you’ll find on Gulf Boulevard in and around Indian Rocks Beach. I visited last week. I walked in without reservations but only waited 15 minutes or so. For the record, I do not like seafood so the odds were already stacked against me. This was not a problem. I had a steak which was perfectly cooked(medium rare). I washed this down with a couple of Fat Tires as well. Delicious. Others in my party ordered sword fish and some other sea creature. Their reviews were also outstanding. Desert was excellent. Service was solid. I highly recommend Guppy’s.

Don’t be fooled by the complimentary valet and the overall upscale aesthetic of the restaurant. It’s very laid back and come as you are. I had on a polo, shorts, and flip flops and no one batted an eye. They even have kids menus and crayons, so bring the family. I had the beer battered grouper sandwich, and it was really really good. I’m normally a shrimp only guy when it comes to seafood, but I’ve grown fond of grouper due to my visits to Clearwater. There are other places in town you can get fresh grouper, but so far Guppys has my favorite version. The tartar sauce was definitely home made and fantastic, and the batter was amazing. Clearwater has become our warm weather destination, and we will definitely find a way to fit Guppys in the next time we are here.

Delish!!! We were searching for the best place to have our final dinner on our honeymoon. After reading many reviews we decided on Guppy’s and we were not disappointed. Initially I had secured the last reservation available at 9:30pm. We thought that would be too late and my husband was feeling pretty crappy all day so I cancelled it and figured we would probably grab a quick bite if anything. LUCKILY, he started to feel better but we didn’t have the reservation anymore. We did call ahead and let them know we would be coking and were told there wasn’t much of a wait. Great! We arrived right around 9:30 and were given the option of indoor or outdoor seating. Even though it was a bit chilly we wanted to sit outside as it was our last night before going back to WI. The super nice hostess sat us near one of the heaters on the patio and assured us that if we got too cold we could move inside. We ordered a round of drinks and mine came with this fascinating colored light cube! We ordered the calamari for a starter. Yum! Perfectly breaded. Wonderful. Husband got swordfish which was bacon-wrapped and came with cheese grits. He had a side of broccoli. I had the seafood bowl with fish, shrimp, clams, mussels, so good! The broth was amazing! We were also served fresh bread and oil with herbs. I only wish I would have had more room to sop up the broth with the bread but we were FULL and happy! The only thing we did not like was that our server did not mention the gratuity is always added and we tipped on top of that. They should tell you always!

Had the grouper(beer battered) sandwich and it yummy. Nice thick grouper steak, buttered bun, and a yummy tartar sauce. Upgraded to the sweet potato fries, and was glad I did… thick cut wedge fries. The bartender recommended the gosling rum for my rum and coke and it was a great choice. If they have the availability I’m bringing some clients here tomorrow night.

Good service and ambience. The Indian Rocks chowder was very good. Char-grilled octopus app got high marks, as did the lobster bisque. BUT both entrees were utterly disappointing. The redfish fillet was a boring hunk of flesh on a cushion of bland sauce. I have never seen such large broccoli spears on a restaurant plate. The rice was a mushy and under seasoned afterthought. The sea scallop entrée was busy and oversauced, like the chef did not know what to do with them. We were hoping for simply prepared seafood showing off fresh ingredients. What we got I would have expected in a Midwest chain restaurant.

For the modest prices I didn’t expect something half this good. Had the bacon-wrapped swordfish special and my wife had shrimp and grits, both were top-notch, chef prepared. Lobster bisque was some of the best. Key lime pie was a great finish, perfectly sized to split after a rich meal. We sat outside on a cool night but the heater kept it pleasant.

Delicious! At the risk of it being too busy to get in, I am telling you this place is amazing — if they were on the water, you would not be able to get in! Food in amazing — we did the early bird — so unless you want to pay 20+ for an entrée you can enjoy a fantastic dinner at about $ 15.00 on the early bird menu! We had 12 people and everyone loved their dinner — house wine is good as well! High recommend!

The wait was over an hour, so we tried the bar where we found 2 high tables, 1 unoccupied and missing a chair. Rob, the waiter, explained that the bar would take our order. He then found a chair and offered to serve us. He was very helpful and quick. Food was exceptional, grilled grouper was perfect. Our 1.5 hour wait changed to immediate service with an exceptional waiter. Highly recommended.

I’m a huge fan of Guppies. I’ve been to their establishment numerous times and I’ve yet to find someone that anyone in my party hasn’t enjoyed. Their servers are very friendly and accommodating. My only con would be that they removed their fried cheesecake from their menu, and it was to die for!!!

This place was recommended to us by a long-time Indian Shores vacationer from Peabody, Mass. — their favorite of many years. You won’t be wowed by the interior: a little sterile brown and cream ceramic tile, a small tropical fish tank, simple wood top tables. Consider asking for a table on the patio surrounded by palms strung with twinkle lights, ceiling fans, vaulted ceiling. When we called ahead to book a table, we were told they only take reservations for 6+ but if we called an hour ahead we could get on the preferred seating list? Do arrive and be seated before 5:15 to get the early dinner special for $ 14.95. Well worth it. We tried the perch in breaded panko in a beurre blanc sauce, with incredibly tangy coleslaw, and either a caesar salad or lobster bisque. Don’t hesitate get the bisque. Amazingly rich, topped with crème freche and lobster meat. Oh my. We also tried the fish chowder(served Bermudan style with dark rum and sherry pepper) Salmon in white sauce, perfectly crisped buttery green beans almondine. It was high quality, affordably priced served by a congenial young chemical engineering student at USF who kept our water topped up. Nice.

Ok. So, I have tried every restaurant on the beach and Guppys takes the trophy for a few reasons. 1. No chicken fingers and fries here! The food is actually fresh and there is an option to eat healthy yet tasty! 2. The service is always friendly. They are not stuffy or immature just nice and knowledgable about their restaurant. 3. I just love the outdoor seating arrangement and it’s a perfect date night stop. Thanks for actually creating your menu Guppys! Food is great :)

I’ve been wanting to try this place for a long time. Went tonight(Saturday) and got there about 6pm. Was seated immediately(but it IS the slowest season for tourists right now). Service was very good. Had the Deep Sea Scallops personally but all the food was very good according to my wife and kids. Server was very attentive and accommodating. If I were to say anything critical at all it would be that I’d also ordered the Lobster Bisque but it never came. I know he heard it because he asked«large bowl or small?» After bread and salad the entrees arrived and at that point with my dinner in front of me I decided that if it wasn’t on the check at the end I wouldn’t mention it. It really wasn’t THAT big of a deal. All in all a fine experience and we’ll be back but probably only on special occasions. The check was $ 80-something before tip(they no longer automatically add the 15% as was mentioned in other reviews). After the tip it was $ 100 for two adults and two children with no appetizers or dessert.

I really enjoyed the menu here. There were quite a lot of tempting offerings. I decided to go with the Picatta-styled Pan Seared Grouper. It came with a side salad that was really tasty. My friends and I all liked the dressing and presentation. The lemon caper sauce on the entrée was also really good. The only drawback to the entrée were the green beans. They were lukewarm at best. One of my friends got the lobster ravioli and he said it was fantastic. Another plus was the parking. Free parking anywhere near the beach is hard to come by. Don’t let their name fool you, however. The restaurant isn’t actually on the beach. It’s on the other side of Gulf Blvd overlooking a public beach parking lot. But, they were happy to allow us to park our cars there a half hour early and walk across the street to watch sunset before sitting down to dinner. Finally, I have to say the service was spotty. The server was very pleasant, but he asked if we would like more bread when our entrees came out and we said yes, but he forgot to bring it to us. He also kept refilling one of our cokes with tea! I think he may have been fairly new though because he kept looking at our table when we had the menus, but didn’t approach us. We had to call him over to order. And at the end of the meal, he came by twice and asked us if we needed anything else and we said no. The second time, one of my friends asked for the check. He then leaned over to me and said«Do you get the feeling that he would happily keep coming back every 20 minutes and asking us that and let us sit here all night?» Maybe he just didn’t want us to feel rushed, but we all felt the communication was awkward.

Nice little place right near the beach. We ate outside and it was comfortable and relaxing. It was a weekend afternoon and there was no wait to be seated. Our waitress, Sarah, was super nice and friendly, she even gave out high fives multiple times. Perhaps she could sense my sleepy hangover and was trying to wake me up. The calamari appetizer is delicious. I had a burger on a wheat bun with brie which was decent, the sweet potato fries that came with it were pretty good. I didn’t have an alcoholic drink to the aforementioned hangover, but I’m told those were good as well. Prices were very reasonable, and no one had any complaints about their food/drinks/desserts. Overall, this is a nice place to have a laid back afternoon lunch on a lazy afternoon.

If you are planning on a day at the beaches in Tampa then you should do yourself a favor and make a reservation at Guppy’s for one of your meals. Guppy’s runs a tight ship with professional service and good food. Pricing is reasonable with most dishes running $ 20 to $ 25. There is ample free parking in an adjacent lot. We came here for an early dinner after a day at the public beach across the road, all of us eager to sample some fresh seafood. For starters we tried the Fried Green Tomatoes with Feta Cheese. These were very tasty and were a hit with my party, the tangy sauce also went great with the bread. Fresh, locally caught grouper is offered on the menu, seasonally priced. We had to try the local special but sadly ours was on the overcooked side and was a bit tough. The Shrimp Grits were loaded with flavor and had great consistency, highly recommended. Lastly, we also tried Guppy’s Seafood Bowl which featured clams, calamari, Shrimp, Scallops, & Mussels in a Saffron Broth This was also a favorite with my party. Despite the name the restaurant is not actually«on the beach» but are situated on the other side of the road. If you came here expecting ocean-front dining you might well be disappointed, but it’s close enough that you can go for a walk before and/or after your meal: o)

Great little place. Great atmosphere. We chose to eat outside and the music was soft enough to create ambience without being annoying. Ordered Escargots and Grouper Tacos. The Escargots were amazing! Being from France I’m picky, but the sauce was to die for. The grouper in the tacos were overcooked and dry. Had to send it back. The second batch was better but they brought it back on a plate just sprawled out with concerns about presentation(see photo). The sauce was nothing special and overall it was blend. The shells were a bit tough and definitely old and stale. Heating them up does not make them better. Did talk to the manager and he was very nice and said he would talk to sous chef to make sure it’s fixed in the future. So hit and miss. May be back, but with as much competition on this strip, may not. I think it’s definitely worth the trip.

Wow, this place was great! I tend to get overstimulated by conversation when I’m meeting a friend for dinner and we have a lot to catch up on. But I could not help but notice that I enjoyed all my food. Wait time was minimal, everything was presented well, all the food tasted great, prices were reasonable, and I didn’t realize all entrees came with salad and a side, which were not to be dismissed. There were hearts of palm in my shrimp linguini… oh I haven’t had those in so long… loved! Lobster bisque was to die for!!! The hardest decision to make was what to order… everything just sounded so great. On top of that– Guppy’s is right across the street from IRB so if you have over indulged in their delicious food, go walk it off along the crashing waves of the shore. I didn’t do that this time though, I confess. Not to mention, the complimentary valet. Beach restaurants could take advantage of you for their parking(I learned last week)…just nice that if you’re going to end up paying, someone is doing the parking for you. I would love to come back… just a matter of when!

This is not your typical beach touristy type place, even though it’s on the beaches the locals frequent this place, we have been going there for years and it is one of our go to places when we would like to get a consistently good meal, meat or fish. The fish dishes are excellent and always fresh, the lost tuna is to die for, drinks are excellent atmosphere is excellent, and if you sit outside you can catch somewhat of a sunset also. They updated the whole restaurant less than a year ago and it is excellent inside and out, recommend doing the call ahead as it gets pretty busy
