Their combination pizza is one of if not my very favorite pizza. I am prejudice about this place. My husband and at least one of his brothers worked there back in the seventies. There used to be one on 24 highway where they also worked. I remember going to that one in my childhood, getting cheese pizza back then, still very good. At that time you did not get plates, even paper ones, so part of the ritual was getting the little skinny napkins out and lining them up for everyone to put their pzza slices on. My husband took me to the one on 40 highway on our first official date. Their crust is on the thin side with a crispy crust. From reading other reviews it seems that the biggest fans are people who are lifelong fans. The décor leaves quite a bit to be desired, but makes actual sense when you know the rich history of the place and the owners! Ask sometime when you are there, either staff or patrons.

We were taken here by our friend who raved about this place. The pizza was great. loaded with toppings, and decent prices. Even though there was a lot of people there, it wasn’t too crowded. It is pretty spacious inside with a lot of tables. We didn’t wait very long for our food and the staff was friendly.

This place has the best pizza that I have eaten in the Kansas City area. Yes, I said it. The crust is light, yet crisp, the toppings are applied liberally, and the cheese and sauce are very good. Like any pizza with lots of toppings, I find that I would like more sauce. It seems that the toppings overwhelm the sauce a bit. But I like lots of sauce on my pizza. I found this place because my husband grew up in Independence and he grew up eating here. Unlike some of the places that he remembers from his youth, this place has great food. It’s kind of a dive inside, not much atmosphere. When you first walk in, there is a little room on the right with video games and pinball machines. You walk up to the first window and order your pizza. The next window is where you order your drinks. The service was efficient and friendly. We were there on a Saturday night for a birthday party and it was packed. Lots of people come for take-out orders too. There are two of the old-fashioned pony«rides» that used to be in front of grocery stores back in the day. They are free to ride. It is loud and boisterous. But the pizza rocks. You should go here!

Normally, service is friendly and food is good. Monday’s special is «cheap tacos». I walked in at 8:35pm and ordered my usual four tacos. Since they were going to be closing at 9am, the nice man at the counter asked if it was okay if my order was to-go. I had no problem with that. He looked at the two women who were cooking and asked for four tacos. They both whined about«having to get everything back out». I looked at the man who took my order and said«forget it, I don’t want to be a bother» and I left. I went to the competitor’s down the highway and enjoyed a nice meal. My thought is that if Monday’s special is tacos, you should have«everything ready» until the restaurant closes. Not impressed with the cooks’ sour attitude and whining in front of customers.

We came here Sunday morning about 11AM and were the first customers of the day. Real nice folks working the ordering and drink counters. It didn’t take too long before our pizzas were up. The Fun House Combo was perfect! The crust was just right. You could hold it at the end and it would stick straight out without being tough. And the toppings were perfect, as always. The boys’ cheese pizza was unreal looking!(Check out the pic.) Tons of cheese on top of that same perfect crust. Everyone enjoyed it very much this time and we’ll be back very soon.

The best pizza in the world! We always get one combination and one pepperoni. I have been eating here since they opened for business. I don’t live in KC any more, but we get some every time we’re in town. There’s nothing else like it. It’s not even close to the most beautiful place inside, but that doesn’t matter. Enjoy pizza.

Bottom line: The pizza is delicious. We had planned on getting a bite to eat, out not in. My mom and i were sitting, waiting for our pizza. We gad #81. They called #77. Then, suddenly, there were 3 mom’s and a few kids coming through the door. The guys at the counter called #83. The boys were around 10. The mechanical horses were behind us, and the boys practically ran over us to get to the horses. Once they discovered it was free, Holy hell we were stampeded. Then the guys at the counter called #84. They were using a mic, so I knew they’d not called #81. The boys riding the horses almost stampeded again, in my lap. On of them yelled, ‘Mom! The horses are free!” right in my ear. My auditory canal had had enough. The guys at the counter called #79. I walked up to the counter and requested our pizza be put in a to go box. After they called #82, they finally called #81, skipping #80. We waited in stampede land for 45 minutes for our medium combination pizza. When I went to pick it up, they forgot the box, which I reminded them. We got it home, it was delicious. I said it before, but next time I’m calling it in. Clientele of parents who can’t control their kids, and orders coming out too slow. Service isn’t good, and getting worse. Deserves 2 stars. But the pizza keeps me coming back.

My mom and dad first took me to Fun House as a kid back in the 80’s. Always looked forward with great excitement to our next visit. Roll the clock forward a few decades and I live in a different part of the city where they have no locations. Hadn’t been to Fun House since I was 14. But I never forgot the place. Finally decided to make the trek down there awhile back to see if they still served the same great pizza. Some may call it a dive but I was absolutely delighted to see that décor that was there in 1985 was still mostly intact. Instantly brought me back to a great period in my life as a carefree teenager. And gave the place some character. Which most restaurants lack these days. So I order my pizza and take a seat. I’m hoping and praying I’m not disappointed by a crumby tasting pie that’s nothing like how I remembered it. So they finally bring out a hot, steamy, disc shaped slab of what appears to be heaven on a platter. I sprinkle on a little parmesan in preparation for the moment of truth. Finally, I pick up a slice and take a bite through it’s crisp, delightful crust. I felt a combination of instant euphoria and the sensation one must feel riding in a time machine and having a million memories flash through their neurons in fast forward. I was overjoyed to find that It still tasted EXACTLY like it did years ago. Yes!!! I nearly pissed my pants I was so happy. Fun House pizza has a taste uniquely it’s own. A flavor that, once you’ve had you’ll never forget it. And you’ll never experience it again anywhere else. I’m truly grateful that the same mouth watering, unique flavor, they served decades ago, lives on! For that brief moment of that day everything was right in the workd again.

This spot is a throw-back to my younger days. I met some family here for a birthday dinner. It’s a dive but it SO works. This is the kind of place you can sit with friends over some beers and a pizza or to take a family. It’s dark in here with no windows. Not kidding. No windows. They have the same old plastic ponies for the kids to bop back and forth for a moment of entertainment. We had two pizzas; one large pepperoni and one medium ½−½ with hawaiian and combo. No complaints on the pizza. No table service at this joint. Patrons need to go to the counter for everything. This can cause a wait at the counter but it is what it is! Nothing fancy at all! Gotta give it 4 stars because our beer was cold, our pizzas were hot and delicious and we had a bit of nostalgia to-boot!

Due to a horrible experience during our last visit, we will not be returning. My family’s been coming to Fun House since it opened and as a result, I’ve been eating their pizza since I was able to eat solid food. The atmosphere hasn’t changed in the more than twenty years I’ve been coming there, but I don’t mind. The cleanliness, overall quality of the food and the quality of the service have declined severely though. The last time we attempted to eat here we walked into an almost empty room, there was only one other patron there and they were picking up their pizzas from the counter, so we were able to order immediately. My mom looked over at the other guy’s pizza(looked like a normal supreme pizza, green peppers, mushrooms, olives, lots of meat, etc.) pointed to it and told the man taking our order, «I’d like the same thing he got, the supreme, large please.» The guy told us our total, we got our drinks, sat down and waited for about half an hour before we finally got the pizza to the table. We instantly notice the toppings are wrong, nothing but mushrooms, hamburger and pepperoni, but, being frequent customers, we know the employees can be jerks and decided to just let it go. We took one bite and discovered the pizza was completely raw in the middle and totally inedible so we had no choice. We took the pizza back to the counter and told the guy that not only was our pizza wrong, but it was raw too. He acted like we were keeping him from helping someone else(there was literally no one else in the place other than the kitchen workers and us) and then told us that we ordered a supreme and they don’t have a supreme so he just gave us the classic combo. When my mom asked him why he didn’t just give us the pizza we pointed to or at least ask us what we meant by supreme he just stammered and looked at the new customer that had just walked in, she told him that she didn’t know what she wanted and to finish up with us first. Upon hearing this, a huge woman, I assume she’s the manager, appears from the back of the kitchen and comes barreling toward the counter at us, slamming her fists on the counter, screaming, «I’M NOTGONNAMAKEYOUANOTHERPIZZA! I CANTHROWITBACKINTHEOVENORYOUCANBUYANOTHERONE!» We walked out and will not be back ever again. The lady in line walked out with us too remarking about their rudeness. I don’t care who you are or where you are, you don’t treat customers like that.

We used to patronize the place in the early 70’s because the pizza was pretty good. Fast-forward 35 years and we decided to try it again. Big mistake. Wednesday night and the place was filling up. A large party showed up and the staff was bewildered, and one server asked them if they were in the right place. Turns out they were, but only one employee knew about them coming. We ordered one regular crust and one thin crust pizza with the idea we would take home the leftovers for late-night snacks. We ordered our drinks at the bar and the employee was brusque, bordering on rude. Our food arrived and it smelled good. Unfortunately, the taste was unpleasant — overly salty and both types of crust were extremely tough and chewy. It’s not the charming place we remembered, and we won’t be back.

I’ve grown up with Fun House. I eat pizza all over the USA and sorry I can’t find any better. Original recipes and old ovens built in the 60’s. There is only one place that comes close to matching FH in Lafayette, MS. It opened about the same time and still operates with the old oven too. This is by far the better pizza hands down. You all do a great job keep it up please.

Ok so first trip here. we decided to take my step sister out around KC for her last night before going back home to AZ. Wish we would have picked a better place to eat that’s for sure. So let’s start with the staff. I almost have no words to describe them. Rude, in a hurry, annoyed, etc. The lady that took my order was not so bad but the guy @the bar was extremely rude & acted like he was listening to our order but clearly he had not when we got our drinks. The seating, and décor or the inside of this restaurant was appalling. I don’t care how long this establishment(40 years) has been there or what but it was way out of date & honestly made no sense to me. Is this really a place for kids or families? I got the impression of it being more like a pub for grown adults that wanted to act like kids. Aside from the maybe 10 arcade games there were 2 electrical horses in the middle of the restaurant(this place is SMALL) that kids could ride. I’m sorry but it was the most distracting & odd thing EVER… I mean I really don’t think it’d hurt for the owners to update this place if it’s been there 40 years & «successful.» The walls you could see cob webs on the walls, the paint was chipping & it was just dingy and dirty looking. It was definitely LOUD but there was maybe less than a dozen people so not sure where all the noise was coming from. There was weird clowns painted on the walls & then tons of pub signs & things of that nature on the wall. to me it was very confusing & just displeasing to the eye. SO as for the food… other than it taking forever and a day we ordered the garlic cheese bread which is just 2 slices of plain bread with tons of butter and melted sliced cheese on top. So lame! The pizza was pretty decent… we ordered half BBQ pizza(chicken) & a cheeseburger pizza. The cheeseburger pizza was good & I liked it b/c it reminded me exactly of a cheeseburger! The bbq pizza was OK, I’ve definitely experienced better. All in all, we probably won’t be revisiting!

This has always been my go to pizza place. But unfortunately we won’t be coming here again. I called to order a small pizza for pick up just shy of forty minutes before they closed on Sunday July 21st, when I called they said they were closed. Not«hi thanks for calling fun house» just«we are closed» and then they hung up. So needless to say I was pretty ticked and I called back and they did it again. So flash forward to today. I called and asked for a manager, the worker hassled me about what I needed to talk to a manager for, put me on hold and came back on the line pretending to be the manager. Then when I asked for his name he wouldn’t give it to me. My husband tried to speak to a manager as well and he was given the same run around. This is absolutely ridiculous. And I am shocked that a place like this would let their employees treat loyal customers this way.

I was a Fun House skeptic for a long time. I had heard legend of this place from my folks(one of my dad’s first jobs was as a dish washer here) and other Independence natives. Yeah, yeah, yeah, you all love it because it’s from your town. Whatever. I had eaten here a couple times in my late teens and the place never left much of an impression on me at all. Flash forward 10 to 15 years. I am now, most unexpectedly, living in Independence just blocks away from the historic dive restaurant. With, I might add, an Independence native. What the heck, I’ll give it a whirl. First, the pizza. DELICIOUS! I know, I’m surprised too. Really, though, super tasty. The crust is a perfect harmony between a traditional hand-tossed and a crispy thin crust. I don’t know how they do it. A regular thickness in crust but the bottom layer achieves such crispness. Wonderful. Also, they do not scrimp on the toppings. A staple pizza for me and my boyfriend is pepperoni and black olives. There were so many black olives!!! It was happiness to just look at it for a moment. Second, their deals. Great deals! Monday night, oddly enough considering how much I love their pizza, is the night of the week we go there most often. Every week for a while there. Taco night. $ 0.70 tacos and $ 2.7532 oz PBR. What!!! Yes, it’s true. Now, the tacos, nothing to write home about. But, they are tasty enough and only 70 cents a piece. Add to that a cheap, gigantic beer. OKAY! Sunday through Thursday they have rather stellar specials going on. I’ve been converted, it’s true. Fun House has become my favorite spot for pizza, hands down.

The only reason they get three stars is because of the service. I was there one evening with my boyfriend. We ordered pizza and some beer about 1.5 hours before closing time. However, before we even got our pizza, the music was turned off, the floor person put all the chairs on the tables, and some of the lights were turned off. My boyfriend yelled across the restaurants, «are we disturbing you? the sign says you close at 10.» They then turned on some lights. We drank our beer and took our pizza. I think Fun House has some of the best pizza in KC,(their crust is vegan, which was great when I was a vegan) but the service is disastrous. If you really want Fun House, especially this location, I say get it to go to avoid the rudeness of the staff.

I visited FHP&P for carry out. I purchased a large combination. I am uploading three pics. One is of the undercooked crust. One is of the pizza toppings that were not seasoned and skimpy cheese portion. This was the worst of pizza parlor carry out that I have ever eaten. It was so bad that I actually tried using hot sauce to «doctor-up» the slice I just ate. I will say that FHP&P offered to replace the pizza if we had brought it back up to them.
