The food over all was quite good for the price. This is Imperail Valley after all. However, there was one major hiccup when I was there. I ordered the special of 1 appetizer and 2 entrees for $ 22. For the appetizer, I ordered the bake mussel. For some reason, the one side of the mussel was cold /raw. I end up separating the mussels form their shells, flipping the mussels over and then have the staff cooked for 8 more minutes. If you are going to order the 2 for $ 22 special, I recommend the avocado tuna salad or the grill salmon. Another time, I had the teriyaki chicken and some crunchy sushi and they were so-so. Also, if you don’t like the Americanized sweet mayo on your sushi, you better remember to ask for sauce on the side.

Food has been delicious. Quick service and food didn’t take too long. Waitress was polite and remembered orders promptly. Atmosphere is great, and not too busy. Not a whole lot of sushi selection, but I would definitely come back again.

Came here on a Sunday. We were greeted immediately by a friendly young lady. There were two other families dining besides my own. We ordered Arnold Palmers for drinks. They tasted great. For food, I ordered the Jalapeño bomb entrée as an appetizer. It tasted great. I love that chipotle-mayo sauce. Just the perfect amount of heat. For my entrée, I ordered the Veggie roll — which was absolutely delicious — it had plenty of fresh asparagus in it. My wife ordered the California Bento and said the chicken was perfectly cooked and marinated. We were given complimentary chicken soup as well and it was delicious. My son ordered Yakimeshi rice with chicken and loved it. Overall, the experience was great. One thing: They may be understaffed at times like I’ve read in previous reviews. Be prepared to wait a little. When we left, there was one waitress handling five tables — with help from the manager. As I stated, the experience was great.

I realize this is not the place to find great sushi. It is was better than Katori Wok. Not much fish and the eel sauce is grose. There is no alcohol, the waitstaff was nice but I think the place is under managed. We had to remind her of all of the appetizers which arrived after the main meal. The baked oyster were last. They put a smoky Chipotle sauce on the. It was terrible. Not to mention cold. Not the worst place but far from. getting this customer to return.

Have eaten there 4 times and have always had great food and service. Once there was something there that irritated our eyes. They said they were cutting onions in the back and discounted our food. Great management team.

There has been a big change since opening(I gave them a 3 star in the beginning). The food taste much better; I think they changed the chef. I would like to emphasize the drastic improvement in customer service. Taylor’s service is second to none.

Came for lunch today and wasn’t too impressed. Although the the restaurant was clean and the staff was friendly, the food wasn’t what I had hoped. I had a miso soup, calamari/shrimp tempura and jalapeño poppers as appetizers and the super crab roll and Alaska roll. I’d heard from a few people this place was pretty good but the taste of our lunch selections was bland in my opinion. I’m really picky with sushi so I probably wouldn’t come back.

First visit here. Service was fantastic, not overbearing but never had to search for anyone. Started with Tempura, was on the bland side and soggy. Next was the Miso soup which was perfect. My entrée was the seafood teryaki and a dragon roll. Seafood was fantastic. Minimal teryaki and perfectly cooked seafood. The dragon roll was great. Properly prepared eel(unagi) and, well prepared sticky rice. My wife enjoyed the Spicy Tuna roll and popcorn roll. I eat sushi often, from Hawaii to Arizona and this place does it right. I will be back…

OK atmosphere until my eyes were burned by the poor ventilation system. Our service slow and unorganized and things were not available to order. I left the restaurant smelling like fried food and after 3 hair washes I still smell burnt oil on my head Tonkatsu ramen is pork… it shouldn’t be a choice of meat. The broth tasted straight buillon and the egg noodles weren’t cooked. My egg was hard boiled too long as it was green in the inside Every single sushi had avocado and cucumber and fried fillings. Ordered the rock roll and I would’ve been fine with just the shrimp on top which was NOT even tempura. I had one piece because the smell of the fish was pungent. If you love California rolls then yes you’ll love all the«sushi» restaurants here. Start venturing out Imperial Valley The steak special was just a giant piece of beef shoulder that was still mooing Takos were straight up frozen and mushy in the inside. Smothered in mayo and crunchies We were missing 2 food entrees and didn’t get them until way later I feel even one star shouldn’t have been received. At this point I would rather go to kotori across the street than come back here. But I won’t go back to either restaurants

This place is on point great food a days great prices not over priced and they don’t charge extra for sauces like some other places I could name. Great service but need a few more tables for big groups. I highly recommend this place for dinner.

Pros: Great atmosphere, decent service, standard pricing Cons: Decent service, somewhat bland flavor Looking for sushi, we tried this place for dinner and arrived sat about 6:45pm. It was basically empty except for 2 tables. We were greeted in what may have been Japanese, and were promptly seated! I got the 2 for $ 22 which includes an appetizer with 2 entrees, and the Tonkatsu Ramen. My appetizer was I think Takoyaki which were basically cream cheese balls with octopus inside, deep fried, then topped with flakes squid and spicy mayo and teriyaki sauce. A little overwhelming for me, but maybe that’s how people like it. You can order the Tonkatsu Ramen with your choice of chicken, pork, or beef. The beef I chose with my ramen was delicious and incredibly tender! Unfortunately, overall it was lacking in flavor, and probably needed a little more seasoning. The rolls were the usual specialty style stuff topped with generous amounts of teriyaki sauce and spicy mayo. This is really a nice place but I wish they didn’t have MTV on. Jack donkey was showing and I wish I didn’t have to see all that fake genitalia during dinner. We were somewhat overlooked as the place filled up, but there were only two servers for dinner service. I’ll probably come back some time later and see if this place has improved!

Went for lunch today and it was great. Our waiter was so very nice(Simon) food was great forgot to take a pic. I had the spicy tuna roll. He gave us some great appetizers to try and well I personally love sushi and finally I think I found a good local place. I think I’m gonna recommend a spicy roll that Simon can call the Cibia roll. Lol

I’ve never been to Toro Toro. Thought I’d just get a California roll for lunch and head back to work. I was greeted in Japanese, which I thought was interesting, and the atmosphere seemed so pleasant I ended up sitting down to order and ate there. I got a bento lunch special and really enjoyed it. The miso soup was good. The California roll was plentifully made and tasty. It was all good however the wasabi didn’t have the kick like it does at Japanese Restaurant Kyoto. I hope this place is here to stay.

This is my first 1-star review since 2010. I’m so sorry, but I don’t get the people who rave about this place. It is beyond terrible. Think about it. Ok I completely understand that I’m not gonna get a legit Japanese food around here. But dude… seriously. I thought Kotori was bad. This place is worse. The service was very good though. That’s why we didn’t give that poor boy hard time and still tipped him right. They have 2-for-22 special. 1 starter and 2 entrees for $ 22. Not many good options. It’s more like the mayo-cheese-fried type of sushi, teriyaki stuffs, fried stuffs, and ramen. No raw sushi roll in the option. So we picked Takoyaki for for starter. Spicy rolls for me. Tonkatsu ramen for my husband. It comes with free miso soup. Oh boy, don’t even ask for it. It tastes terrible. I never in my life had a miso soup that is SOUR before. I had 1 sip and put it away. For Takoyaki, I appreciate the twist of using spicy mayo, but the Takoyaki balls itself pretty much tastes like cheap frozen Takoyaki. My frozen Takoyaki that I got from H-Mart(Korean supermarket in San Diego) tastes way better. My spicy tuna sushi is LOADED with mayo. I don’t taste anything else except mayo. I barely see«spicy tuna» inside the rolls(it’s supposed to be spicy tuna with Serrano chili pepper and tempura crust on top). The only reason I ordered this because I want spicy tuna(and this is the only thing that is close to spicy tuna or any raw sushi ~ the rest of sushi choices in 2-for-22 special are cheesy fried sushi). Ramen is bland. Period. We didn’t even have half of it. We just gave up. I’m sorry for being mean to the restaurant. That’s why I tried to give a reason why I don’t like it, instead of saying«It’s bad. Don’t eat here».

Best Japanese restaurant in the Imperial Valley. I don’t know any other place that offers Takoyaki. They also offer delicious Udon. I definitely recommend the sushi here because they’re very gracious with their portions.

This place is really great. The staff is nice and the sushi is probably the best in Imperial Valley that my family has tried so far. Give it a try.
