The stuff of legend. Saturday night the boy and I arrive around 7 – 8. We are immediately greeted and seated. The atmosphere seems authentic with a large sushi bar and ample 2 — 4 top seating, larger groups can be accommodated by putting tables together. We begin with hot saki and bonzai. Delicious and smooth. Ordered vegetable and shrimp gyoza, fried oysters, yaki tori, octopus and Miso soup. Within a blink of an eye our attentive waitress begins to fill the table, starting with soup. All food was fresh, the fried oyster being my favorite. We ordered two rolls, black dragon and mon. I enjoyed the black dragon more than the mon but they were both really great, super fresh and thoughtfully made. Another round of drinks, summer roll and beef fried rice… It was getting late and we figured we should leave some mystery to the menu. Looks like there is outdoor picnic style seating in the summer. Glad we went, we will be back.

Every time we’ve been here, the staff has been very friendly and accommodating. Sushi is very fresh and the sushi chef always comes out to greet us. My 89-year-old Taiwanese father loves their dinner bento boxes!

Easy 5 stars for this place. I eat at lots of sushi places, but this place is special. The sushi is a few steps up from most places. And the service is excellent too. I had the sushi 3 roll lunch special and an order of edamame.

Great sushi, great service. Every time we’ve been here the service staff goes above and beyond to be friendly and accommodating, and I’ve yet to have something that wasn’t delicious.

Third time here and always pleased. The sushi is great and comes out quickly, but the standout is the service. The employees have always been incredibly kind and accommodating. I am a loyal customer!

Very good sushi and not to mention the amazing staff! They treat you like family here. We got a bunch of regular and special rolls, sushi pizza, the garlic edamame, and the squid appetizer. Everything was delicious! The squid was so unique and very interesting, definitely a must try.

The sashimi here at this local restaurant is surprisingly very fresh, even the appetizer like Edamame and miso soup are very special. You can definitely tell by the quality of the food here that they care a lot about the feedback from customers. Most of the customers here seem have great conversations and connections with the owners! I would give out 5 stars recommendation and it definitely worth coming back again.

We travel a bit farther than the closer sushi restaurant because of the freshness at akebono. You don’t want to mess around with the freshness of your sushi. Their hot and cold food are delicious and they have a nice selection of specialty rolls so you can mix it up a bit. We love the Long Island roll in soy paper, the naruto roll in cucumber and their spicy tuna roll. Their fried cheese wontons are not greasy and really tasty and one of my favorite appetizers is the steamed gyoza; better than any place I’ve tried! Staff is pleasant and helpful. Highly recommend trying this new spot. You won’t regret it.

I’ve been looking for a local sushi spot that’s a little closer to home, a little more affordable and still has awesome sushi. Well this is officially my new sushi spot! The waiter Bobby is very friendly and very tentative. We have no become regulars.

I absolutely adore this place. It’s a quaint, local sushi & Asian fusion restaurant nestled in Greenlawn, NY. The waiters and hosts are always exceptionally warm and inviting, and the décor mirrors it’s employee’s warm nature. The décor has cute fixtures featuring aquatic fish, adorable lights, and seasonal decorations. It reminds me very much of a home-style sushi bar. The music they play is also very relaxing and Kawaii cute! I feel very at home whenever I visit! Now, for the food and sushi — I am a lover of Asian fusion, and Akebono does it right.(Unlike some other places) My favorite rolls so far are the Christmas Roll, which includes cream cheese, fresh onion, crunch, tuna, avocado, & caviar. Second favorite is the Salmon Avocado roll. Their dinner specials, such as the beef and broccoli, and rice/soup/salad sides are all SO delicious! They also now have their liquor license and their hot Sake is potent and yummy. This place is definitely a must visit if you’re looking for a quiet night«out.» I go with my boyfriend often, but would also go with a nice book alone, or with some friends to talk and catch up. The lunch special prices are especially affordable and dinner is normal priced for Asian fusion cuisine. Akebono does Asian fusion right :)

I came all the way from flushing to come here to eat. I have been here a couple of times and always had a good experience. Everything was very fresh. The fish was not frozen at all and everything just melts in your mouth. The sushi was also amazing. They have many different rolls for you to choose from. I always tell the chef to give me the specials. I always order dessert after my meal and their fried tempura ice cream is fried perfectly. The ice cream is was still in tact and not all melted. I would definitely come back.

Like the others that have reviewed Akebono, I too was a huge fan of Azuma — it was our regular sushi spot. We weren’t thrilled to find a new place with new owners at this location BUT that has since changed. Unlike many of the other reviewers, we have been here three times(not just once) and have ordered different things each time. Here’s my rundown: Service: EXCEPTIONAL — the owner/manager remembered us the second time we returned and the third time as well. Our server tonight was Lin and she was attentive and kind but on all three visits we found the same exceptional service. Sushi: We’ve tried the salmon roll, spiderman roll, rainbow roll, shrimp tempura roll, eel roll, and white tuna roll and ALL of them were delicious. To Scott K and his prior sushi review — yes, some rolls have cream cheese in them — at every sushi restaurant — if you don’t like cream cheese, don’t order a roll with cream cheese. My favorite roll was the spiderman roll — the soft shell crab is delicious! Hot food: we’ve tried the steamed shrimp shumai, the fried oysters, and the shrimp pad thai and all were delicious. A couple of people seem upset that the pad thai wasn’t drenched in sauce but I find it refreshing. Squeeze some lime on it and enjoy the Thai flavors(not the American tradition of drenching EVERYTHING in sauce!). Price: They currently have a 15% off coupon attached to their menu. This is a Japanese restaurant and Japanese restaurants aren’t usually«cheap eats» — you’re paying for expertise that you don’t have and I appreciate the skill that goes into the cuisine. If you’re looking for a $ 20 dinner, maybe TGI Fridays is a better option. The first time we went we ordered the kani salad — a favorite of ours. The restaurant was brand new had opened the weekend before. There was way too much mayo for our taste and when asked if everything was OK — I told the manager/owner. She handled it professionally. If you have an issue with a restaurant, call them or tell them and give them a chance to fix it. If they don’t or won’t, then take it up with them here. BOTTOMLINE: They are BYOB at them moment — bring some booze, use your 15% off coupon and given them a try — you won’t be disappointed!

This sushi spot opened where Azuma used to reside its brightned up a bit staff was very friendly my review is for take out only Garlic edamame was ok one roll was pink soy paper with a typical fish offering and Kani(fake crab) it was ok though the white fish in the roll was a bit fishy the other roll was filled with avocado spicy tuna with thin sliced tuna on the outside it was tasty but not mind blowing. Since they are just getting started and they are local I will give them another try
