Horrible customer service, not only are they not professional but they harassed one of my friends. She went in to return a surf board she rented and in the process one of the employees took a picture of her butt. She caught him and told him if he could please delete that. He denied ever doing it yet was shaking when being confronted. We talk to the person that look like was in charge but that got us no where. He was actually even worse. He told my friend«well you should expect that if you wear something like that». My friend was wearing a bikini, so every girl that wears a bikini better watch out. Will never go there again. I wonder how many girls have gotten their photo taken without them knowing.

The food is sub-par and overpriced; calamari fries were dry and salty while chili cheese fries lacked flavor – there really was nothing special about the chili cheese, yet they came to $ 12 before tax for rather small portions. The place must be understaffed because wait times for the cashier and for pick-up were long.

So before I leave this review, I just want to say that I’ve worked multiple customer service jobs and know what its like to have a shitty shift and just having an off day, so i don’t like to leave Unilocal reviews out of compulsion when I don’t know what someone was possibly going through that day. I ignored the horrible Unilocal reviews because there was some positive and negative reviews and I wanted to have faith in the positive reviews, like I said, I’ve worked customer service and I know that revengeful customers can go to Unilocal to discredit some businesses for the smallest things. Alright so my experience today(June 5, 2016 @ 11amish) So my friend Savannah and I came into Zach’s to rent a paddle board. I ask the guy who was working, can my friend and I rent out a paddle board? He says«We don’t have paddle boards here» and then the male brunette turns and says«they are above your head» and tells my friend and I that yes they do have paddle boards. the blonde guy who was assisting us was clearly new because the brunette was telling him the steps he needed to take to assist us with the paddle board(collecting our ID’s etc.,). (BTW how can you work at like a bike rental/surf shop and NOT know basic shit like what you guys rent out. thats like working at a restaurant and not knowing you guys serve tea…) Anyways, he was knew so I get it. Okay so they take down the paddle board that was above all of our heads. The paddle board can fit two people on it, its basically like 7⁄8 feet tall and like 70 pounds. So as they bring it down, they have my friend and I hold it. It touched the ground and this old guy(named MIKE) says«AREYOUSERIOUS» and then says«COMEON» I would never talk to a customer like that in my life. While my friend and I held on to the board and walked toward the beach he says«If anything happens to it, you buy» BTW I’ve gone paddle boarding to several different places in balboa and the guys will always help assist you with the paddle board to the dock/or wherever you choose to paddle board. So we are carrying the board towards the ocean. As we lie our belongings onto the beach we realized just how crazy the waves were. We thought we could handle paddle boarding, but the waves were so crazy we just decided we should head back towards Zachs and return it. BTW we did not once put the board in the ocean, all we did was cary it from Zach’s then to the lifeguard tower, then to Zach’s again. So we get back, and the guys prior to us renting asked us if we were sure if we wanted to rent out the paddle boards because of the whether. My friend and I feeling adventurous wanted to do it(not having really seen the waves). So when we returned they basically said they warned us about the whether. When my friend and I get to Zach’s there was a LITTLE bit of sand on the board, the brunette guy instructs us to go to the showers and wash off the board. I asked him how much it was going to be and the brunette says, «we will take care of you.» After we start walking towards the showers my friend sees the old guy notion to the two guys to charge us $ 15 by putting up two hands and signaling 15 dollars.(To rent for an hour is $ 15 or you can pay as you go. I chose to pay as you go.) Anyways, we come back to the shop after we washed the board and no one at all is assisting us with the physical labor of putting this board away.(This thing is like 7⁄8 feet, the three men were just watching us struggle. the new blonde, the brunette and the old guy) the board touched the ground because the guy told us to put it away, he pointed to the surf rack so we tried to stand it up and so we set it on the ground(NOT hard or anything) and the old guy MIKE fucking snaps at my friend and I. He said«You carried the board here and you can’t just put it back» and the guys look at us like we are incompetent and says«you guys obviously don’t know what you’re doing» and the old guy is like huffing and puffing, and I snap back at him and I’m like«YA obviously we don’t know how to put it away, so why don’t you try to help» then as he was about to say something, the brunette tries to calm down MIKE and says«MIKE. MIKE. MIKE» like telling him to calm down. So I ask if I can get my debit card and my friends ID back, and he said«thats going to be $ 15 dollars» I was upset cause how can you tell someone«you’ll take care of them» and then charge them??? Anyways, I gave the guy a 20 and he gives me 15 back, so he only charged me 5. have no idea if he was just shitting his pants because his shitty employee MIKE was probably making him nervous or he was doing it from the kindness of his heart. Anyways, the brunette told us to come back later so we could use some boogie boards, we said we were okay and left. AWFULAWFULAWFUL. SOSOAWFUL. such negative vibes at such a pretty beach. I feel so bad for the people who have to put up with that old guy. fire his ass ASAP and teach your employees about customer service.

Back in the day you could get«beach nachos with yummy aguacate sauce with unmelted cheese. Yesterday I got the chips with the unmelted cheese but no aguacate. What happened? So boring and disappointing. Well at least the staff was cool and got some water for my pup. That is the reason they got 3 stars. IMG_0434.JPG

Wow. Such bad customer service. I tried to redeem a Unilocal coupon I purchased, but the guy asked for a print of the deal. I gave them my phone and showed the part it says to redeem with phone on the Unilocal app. Something just didn’t click with this guy and he refused the deal and didn’t want to listen to my explanation of the Unilocal deal. He said he would hold on to my credit card unless I gave him cash or charge the card. I suggest to avoid if using the Unilocal deal and save yourself the headache of having to deal with these guys.

Zero stars if I could. I got there at 545 pm today, I asked one of the workers if I could rent a bike for an hour or 30 minutes, he was like no we are closed. He said it in a very rude tone, I felt like I was asking him for a favor or something. I walked around the street and back for about an hour, the store was still open. I won’t go back there ever again.

Never had such horrible customer service until today from here. I visit Huntington Beach quite frequently and have always felt beyond more than welcome vibes at the stores and restaurants around. Ordered fish tacos and a pink lemonade but some how they gave me fish and chips instead?! The lady who rang up my order and gave it to me was rude from the beginning to end. Not only did I get charged wrong but when given my food she pretty much tossed it to me like, here! Then when I asked about my lemonade, she replied, «it’s been waiting for you at the other window for awhile now.» I had been standing there for 15 mins and never heard anyone call or say anything. They should have another person dealing with customers face to face if she doesn’t feel she can provide proper customer service to a VERY populated area. Good was mediocre. Typical tourist quality. Customer service clearly sucks.

This place is awesome! Zach, the owner, and Mike(I think that was his name) were a huge help! Went in for board rental, it was quick and easy. The board was great, and they were very helpful. When I went back to return the board I asked about buying one and they gave me a great deal and a discount on the rental! Definitely would refer everyone here!

We visited the shop after we had taken in some beach time before heading home to New Mexico. It was an awesome experience!!! It was priced great and had great deals. The ice cream was amazing and the customer service was outstanding! We would definately recommend this place to anyone.

The two old guys working there today had no idea what customer service is. My friends and I walked into the shop and asked them about their surf rental rates and were checking out their rental boards. After checking out the shop, we went back to our car to leave our things in there and we went back. When we got back, one of the old guys told us rudely that«We’re either renting or we’re not renting, so if we aren’t we should get out of there.» The old guys working at Zack’s are very rude, unfriendly and don’t know a tad bit about customer service.

my husband and i LOVE renting boards here. hes a huntington native, but we live in LA now, and we make the drive down just to rent from Zack’s when we surf. They have a really good selection of boards usually and the staff is a bunch of super friendly younger surfer dudes. Ive never had an issue with customer service, everyone has been super chill in regard to helping us pick boards and taking our cards and IDs and whatnot. Ive even had them skim off the time when we barely crossed over into the next hour of a rental. bottom line, if im willing to make a 45 minute drive for a board rental, you should be willing to as well!

Biggest pieces of shit working here. Go there if you enjoy condescending cocky service, or if you’re stopped up. Their food comes with a side of the shits, as they can’t keep their mouths shut. Last time I do business with that family. Today’s experience: Today I went in there for the first time to rent a SUP with my gf. We go usually every weekend but this is the first time we wanted to go by main beach. We’re locals and had hbcams up checking out the beach all day. We would be getting there just after low tide started and a few hours before high tide started. We walk in and it’s tense. He’s insinuating to a customer that the customer did not give him a license but some other form of Id. Customer insist he did and the clerk goes crazy saying that all he has is a license that looks like the guy(he pulls it out and shows him) but not his. In steps a little kid/employee about 9 – 12 years old waiting to speak with the clerk. He’s standing there for a couple minutes before the clerk turns to him and barks what do you want? You’re not off til 6! It’s crazy in here, I’m trying to figure something out. Go outside. The kid mumbles/groans something, to which the clerk snaps back, go outside! Clerk comes around the counter with intent and says I’ll shut this beach down if that’s what i have to do to find your license. Enter disheveled man finishing his cigarette in the back, shuffles to the front, as now a line is building due to the clerk waking out if the shop. Calls the next person to the counter and mutters, Japan? The guy says excuse me to the clerk, who then elaborates, D’You use your Japanese passport for the rental? Customer says No, I gave you my drivers license. Clerk #1 comes back in and has I believe resolved his issue, stands at the counter visibly irritated starring blankly through the line gathered in front of him. He proceeds to then waive his hands in the air wildly out of the blue, stating whoever wants to give him their money, come up, he’s ready to take it. We’re next in line and we walk up and I ask for 2SUP(stand up paddle) boards. The clerk snaps to me, Now?! idk it’s high tide(unaware rentals were tide based and restricted). I replied, that’s fine and that it was actually closer to low tide(I had just finished looking at the tide chart on my phone, it showed high tide wouldn’t be for another 3+hrs, as low tide just started a little under an hour ago). He snaps back and says no it’s high tide and proceeds to then state to me a bunch of presumptions questioning my ability to rent a SUP and use it during high tide. I stated that I was a local and visited his families other business Ziggys down the street as well as SUP frequently down in sunset beach and would like to please rent 2SUP’s. He proceeds to go crazy and shouts ay me that i need to get or if his shop right now. I ask him why. At this point the disheveled man is speed shuffling around the counter towards me, he’s shouting at me to get out. Out of nowhere comes a blitzed old man who they called Mike, looking as though he wanted to physically throw me out/fight me come and yell at me, you trying to make trouble in here? I leaned into him and said calmly, No, I was looking to rent 2SUP’s. He shouts at me after looking back at tweedle dee and tweedle dumb to get out. I turn around and leave, never would i want to enter that disgusting place ever again for rentals or their sun baked sauce for their cheese strips.

Zack’s is one if the best places to go. They have great food and great place to eat. You can see and feel the ocean breeze. Ace is one of the best employees there. He trys his very best for his customer. If you want to eat in a good place near the beach, learn how to surf, get drinks or rent a bike. Tjen Zack’s is the best place to go. It clean and very welcoming. I highly recommend this to everyone.

I rented a couple of bikes from Zack’s Last week, one for me and the other for my 7 year old daughter. The children’s bikes Zack’s had available are all quite rusty, and in really bad shape, tires flat. The helmets available to chose from were in a large sandy bucket next to the bikes in the sand. Helmets filthy, cracked linings, and hard to fit. And they have balls to charge $ 10/hr for their bikes. I rented bikes the day before in Hermosa for brand new sparking bikes and helmets for $ 6 per hour at Hermosa Cyclery.

You can’t always make solid plans when traveling; I showed up late today to see if I could get a surf lesson in on my last day in Cali. Luckily, the good people at this shop were so helpful. Mike decided that he would take me for an awesome surf lesson. He was a great instructor and very patient and supportive(I had a bunch of really bad wipeouts, I’m a heavy dude). Mike is a very good host too — he offered a chair for my friend who wasn’t surfing and water for us. After wiping out a number of times and seeing my fatigue(and fear of going out further), he offered the boogie board and flippers for an extended time. He even brought the boards back and forth for me. I saw the bad reviews after patronizing this store, and I was shocked. Unfortunately on my end I was late returning because I didn’t know what time they were closing up shop. But the other employees called us(his brother) and were very gracious and even gave time for a quick warm water shower rinse. Thanks for making my last day in Cali epic!

Zack’s Surf rental is about the knowledge, experience and expertise anyone could benefit from including professionals and first timers. They not only rent but they sale new and used inventory. I’ve been going to see my bro Joe for over ten years! I buy all my boards and suits there new and used! I’m a software engineer, trust me research comes easy and no other shop can compete end of story. Hands down«Zack’s» is Huntington Beach.
