I have suffered with varying degrees of back pain for years. I have fallen arches, flat feet. Some every day tasks just kill me… like doing dishes. If I stand bending over the sink for more than 4 – 5 mintes, my back seizes up. My wife thinks in full of crap, of course, but it’s a pain in the back and in the ass. Besides exercise, I was advised that certain types of shoes can eliminate this pain. The two best, I was told, are cowboy boots and clogs. I’m a Jewish kid from the valley. We don’t do cowboy boots or clogs. The very high arches in each of these provide unbelievable arch support. Surgeons have been using them for years. Yes, my darling wife, doing dishes is harder than surgery. I bought my first pair of clogs from this place about 8 years ago. At first, I thought they looked really stupid. However, I’m not exactly cruising the clubs with these bad boys. I’m walking around my house, on tile and hardwood floors, for a few hours a day. Rather than going barefoot or putting on a decent pair of shoes and socks, I just slip these on like slippers and my feet feel great. They have a rubberized sole so I’m not clogging around in wooden shoes. The brand is Helix and leather is soft as butter. The store closed down several years ago and the owner, a German lady named Ursel Petermann, moved the store to Big Bear. She ended up moving back to the same shop in Old World a couple of years ago and I just got a brand new pair. This store has Birkenstock shoes and sandles as well as other German shoes and orthopedic footwear. Cool little shop… definitely not a chain. Clogs… are you freakin’ serious? Yes… yes, I am.
