Make sure to check out their expiration dates. I have been going there for years and I have noticed their goods look old. Also, their cooked food looks like it has been reheated. I think I know when cooked food is freshly cooked! Their catered foods changed too. Back when they started, their pancit had a lot of meat, now they make it more with tofu! A lot of things changed since they opened. They are not consistent with their food taste. I think Filipinos just go their because they have no choice. Go to Toms River! Best Filipino stores are there. more varieties and much more fresher too food-wise!

Kapamilya is a low-key grocery with hot food in the back. I had never noticed it before but my girlfriend saw the sign while we were driving and insisted we give it a try(she’s Filipino). I’ve become pretty familiar with the food over the last few years and knew what to expect when ordering the lunch special– which is two items and rice. There were all the standards in terms of meat dishes: adobo, sinigang, dinuguan, bistek, kare-kare, mechado etc. but I was happy to get some vegetables in the form of pinakbet because Filipino meats tend to be pretty hearty. The workers behind the counter were quite friendly and had a hard time hiding their surprise when I knew exactly what I wanted. It was a positive experience and I would definitely come back because the food was tasty and cheap. I would recommend Kapamilya to people who have never had Filipino food before as well, because for a small amount of money it’s possible to try many unique dishes(both exotic and familiar)– so even if oxtail and pig’s blood don’t suit your palate there are plenty of other delicious things to try.

Nice little Filipino grocery store with hot food served cafeteria-style in the back. A few seats for customers and Filipino programming playing on their TV. They also do catering — great, especially if you like lumpia(Filipino egg rolls) and pork BBQ skewers.
