My friend and I were looking for a «healthy» lunch. I’m not sure how healthy this place actually is, but usually if I can get a sandwich/burger that is not too greasy, I’m decently happy. Also we were trying to do work and heard this place has FREE Wi-Fi and it serves food as opposed to just a coffee shop. Not all the tables have power so scope it out before sitting down. But there was FREE internet. We opted to get a CHICKENSALAD with walnuts, rosemary, tomatoes, arugula, and a LAMB burger with feta, tomato, onion. Both sandwiches were OK, as far as sides we had the SWEETPOTATOTOTS and the sweet potato fries. I actually really liked the tots, they were packed with cheese? really good. Overall, it was a decent spot to grab a bite and get some work done.

Ziggy’s. Ziggy’s. I want to give you more stars. I like the very casual atmosphere. I’ve liked every food item I’ve tried here. You’re in my neighborhood. Sweet potato hash. But the folks waiting the tables would be better suited doing something else. Like sweeping. Or wiping down flat surfaces perhaps. Or smoking weeds. You know, something they’d excel at because the service industry ain’t it.

Service: stellar. The server got the kitchen to make an item that said it was only available on the week-end. She anticipated my need for hot sauce with my brunch and was always checking on us. Food: Everything is made fresh. Even the black beans. I tried a breakfast item with turkey sausage and sweet potato fries. I loved it. The honey peppered bacon was also amazing. Key: awesome brunch!

I will give them credit for going outside of the box with most of their food — there is a certain emphasis put on healthy ingredients, but not too much. The problem with new things is that sometimes they fail, the food here is no exception, the menu is hit or miss. Service was very friendly, too friendly, and a bit slow. I’d steer clear of the«Sangria» — boring, bland, blahh.

I have been going to Ziggy’s for quite a while now. I live in the neighborhood. There was a time when the food was fantastic, the service, outstanding and the atmosphere relaxing. Well, those times are over. Over the past several months things have started to go downhill. The food is still decent, but has suffered. The stuffed chicken and the acorn squash are nothing like they used to be. The last time we were there was the worst… We go there around 8 on Saturday night. The outside tables(about 6 of them) had people in them, but there was absolutely nobody seated inside other than us. About 10 minutes after we sat down, a disheveled looking waitress with tattoos and a scarf came to ask us what we wanted to drink. Another 10 minutes later she brings the drinks and one of them is wrong. Give it another 10, and I finally get the drink I ordered 20 minutes previous. We order the hummus as an appetizer and our entrees. after a good 15 – 20 minutes, Scott gets up to go and ask about the hummus. She immediately goes and grabs it, brings it to the table and informs us that it’s «on her.» I said we didn’t want free hummus, just hummus! A while after, the manager, or who we assume is the manager, comes out and sits with us to ask if everything is ok. We say yes it is now, and that we were just hungry and didn’t think we should have to wait that long for something we could clearly see what ready in the window right in front of us. He apologized several times again, and was very polite. Later on, the waitress came back and told us she would be making drinks for 3 minutes and wanted to know if we needed anything. Clearly she was being tacky now. About 10 minutes later she comes over and sits against a table near us, leans over as if to scold us, and asks if we are tweeting about her or the restaurant. We were, but none of her business. We also simply said Ziggy’s still has a long wait. You have got to be kidding. After that she wouldn’t even come back to our table but once, and we had to get another waiter to run our card so we could leave. Never going back there again!

The food here is pretty decent. Burger and sweet potato fries are just fine. I too love the location — just a few blocks from my place. I would eat here more often if the management would PLEASE, PLEASE get a new team of staff. This is ridiculous. Everyone in midtown knows this, half of the reviews on Unilocal mention it. Service staff are friendly, but frankly their heads are not in the game. Inefficient, forgetful, slow, distracted(guys, get a room!).

The Food is 4 Stars, Service is 1 Star I have been coming here for years. I have even told many people about this place numerous times, even out-of-towners looking for a place to eat downtown. The downtown location I frequent on the weekends since I live a few blocks from it. But during the work week I usually will take a coworker or a client that I am good friends with to the Montrose location. Strong Points: Great HEALTHY food that is always wonderful.(Although I wish they would bring back their multigrain waffle). The staff is always nice and polite. The only pitfall of this place is their service when it is slow. I am not sure if they don’t have enough wait staff. But the last probably 4 times I have come here it takes forever to get served your food or get someone to fill up your drink even when there are only maybe one or two other tables with people in them. Last month my coworker and I ordered an edamame as an appetizer and both ordered lunch entrees. They all came out at the same time. I asked why the edamame didn’t come out earlier. He stated that the kitchen just prepared them all at once and that this appetizer takes more time. I asked then why didn’t you explain that to us, you have it explained on the menu for the pizzas that they require a little extra wait. I think he knew I wasn’t pleased and he never came back to refill our drinks or anything other than to send his manager over to ask if there was a problem, I told her the situation. She gave me the same excuse that he did. He did finally bring our check.(I am still pissed that I still tipped him 20%, but I don’t know for sure if it was him or the kitchen. In those cases I give the wait staff the benefit of the doubt) What I think happened is this waiter was outside for a long time at one table(even sitting down) talking with the people(his friends maybe) and forgot our appetizer. This whole event has left a bad taste in my mouth and I haven’t returned in about a month.

The menu was sparse, with a small variety of sandwiches and burgers. I ended up ordering a spicy turkey burger, which was not spicy, and not flavorful. Very unremarkable, actually. My server was awkward and pushy, obviously beat from the day and ready to discharge us from the restaurant. Will not return.

The Good: –The food here is quite yummy and fresh. If simply basing on the food, the place would get 4 stars. My favorite is the breakfast hash with the veggie sausage. –Love the location! It’s about a 3 minute walk from my house, so it’s a place my fella and I visit often. –The interior is nicely decorated and the patio is really pretty. The Bad: –The weakest link at Ziggy’s is the service. While all of the servers are nice, they are always lacking. EVERYSINGLE visit I have had there I have been left sitting around waiting for something. Usually I am left with empty water or coffee glasses, or waiting for 20+ minutes for my check at the end of the meal. On our last visit my boyfriend had to ask 3 separate servers for hot sauce. Each one would say«of course» and then disappear to the back. We would wait at least 5 minutes before asking someone else.(Note: they were stacked behind the bar about 8 feet from us.) As much as I love Ziggy’s, I’m really getting tired of the lazy service.

Highlight was that we were eating during the biggest listeria outbreak in the history of the country(September 2011) and while CNN was having BREAKINGNEWS updates saying«Do not eat cantaloupe or you may die of listeria» with 2 deaths in Texas already and 29 nationwide — we were served a nice bowl of fruit salad which was 60% cantaloupe… just what I wanted! To die at Ziggy’s! The CDC recommends not eating cantaloupe if they are of unknown origin and throwing them away if they are from Colorado… or you may die. When I asked the server where the cantaloupes were from, they replied that they had«no idea». Now, I used to be a bouncer, my hair is sometimes even spikey, I act like a tool when drunk and I am over-prepared for a zombie apocalypse. If a knucklehead such as myself is aware that there is a freaking outbreak of deadly proportions related to cantaloupe and the staff at a purported healthy foods café haven’t a clue, and this is normal, then I must be in Crazytown. Someone inside that I asked later said that they were not from Colorado, but they could not identify where they were from. She must have thought I was asking about her father. I think I will not trust my life to this clueless bunch, or their supply chain partners. Given especially the investigations that have shown the amount of fish swapping that happens in the restaurant industry(i.e. industry of dirtbags, alchys and the emotionally unstable).

This place is adorable! Came here for brunch and it was delicious. I love that this used to be a house. It’s so cute! Very homey. Right when I walked in, the coffee smelled delicious. The waiter said it was the pecan coffee. I don’t even drink coffee but I was tempted to get it just so I can smell it. I ordered the Ziggy’s Hash. At first I was disappointed by the size but it filled me up! Sweet potato hash browns with spicy garlic ground turkey and onions topped with 2 scrambled eggs. YUM! My coworkers got pancakes and it looked delicious. When it came out I immediately regretted getting toast. I had a great experience and would definitely be back. I want to come here for dinner and try their downtown location. I highly recommend this place!

Went here for the first time tonight. Great experience sitting outside and enjoying the chicken and pecan salad sandwich. Great service all around, and I will be back. Definitely a great place to chill. Best of all, it’s just around the block from my house.

We’re moving to the neighborhood and tried Ziggy’s hoping to find a spot we could frequent along with Niko’s and Barnaby’s. Well those two have nothing to fear. While the restaurant is lovely and the service was friendly, the food just fell well short of the mark. I had the veggie loaf, which I liked reasonably well, though it could have been larger. But my mashed potatoes were cold and my mac n cheese(yes I know that’s a lot of starch) was cold and I thought it more like mac n chili con queso, nothing special. David liked his sides of non-cold potatoes and sauteed spinach and mushrooms, but a major deduction for his ribeye steak. To quote David, «this is not a ribeye, this is the $ 1.97 Randall’s bargain steak». It was also overcooked. Maybe we’ll give them another shot for lunch some day, but more likely not.

Don’t you hate it when you showcase a place you love to your friends and they aren’t thrilled by it? I need to apologize in advance to my friend… but then again, she didn’t cook or serve the food at Ziggy’s. The building itself is very cool, Arts & Crafts architecture complete with exposed wood trim and original windows. The place even leans a little.(They should get that fixed – foundation repair on pier and beam is relatively cheap.) And it’s got that freeze-your-butt-off-in-winter feature built in(it helps in the summer, so you can’t complain too much). The waitstaff was very friendly and they seemed to be hustling around a lot. I’m not really sure why things were kind of slow… I would guess the kitchen, maybe? It was a bit long of a wait for the food, but as we were enjoying our conversation it wasn’t too bad. We had 3 entrees, which was a bit of a surprise… there was some issue with an order and they offered us a free pork chop(probably due to my friend being such a regular). The pork chop was really good. Glazed in a pomegranate sauce, which was a bit too thick for my taste, but the meat was done to perfection. I wish I had ordered that instead! I was unimpressed ribeye special, but the chimichurri sauce on it was delicious. Fatty, a bit overdone(but still juicy) – I’m not surprised because really thin cuts are hard to get perfect. My friend loved the veggie loaf. Sides were ok(sauteed spinach and salad). One thing I did note, which was appreciated, is they took steps to keep things healthy. Low fat salad dressings, low(or no) oil in the sauteed spinach and chimichurri sauce. It’s kind of easy to bribe people with calories, and they didn’t. I think they may see some improvement as the owner spends more of his focus here with the closing of Alabama. I know I’ll be back, because my friend will take me. Ziggy’s is A-OK in my book.

This is a small restaurant with a huge menu. Hubby ordered a Shiner Bock(a Texas native) and I ordered a Ziggyrita to get the evening started. Then, we ordered the Spicy Garlic Turkey Burger and the Homemade Veggie Burger(their own recipe with chickpeas, carrots and pecans with spices). Everything was delicious — especially the Macaroni and Cheese(hubby) and the sautéed spinach with mushrooms(me). After dinner, we were enjoying the relaxing, homey atmosphere, and we were prepared for dessert. Hubby ordered the healthy Apple Pie and I ordered the Carrot Cake Cookie, which is both low-fat and sugar free. The Carrot Cake Cookie was incredible — it was like a carrot cake Oreo with a creamy filling, but not so heavy that it could not be finished. We left Ziggy’s Healthy Grill very satisfied.

In the last few months I have been to Ziggy’s 3 times and each time was underwhelming to say the least. The first time, my girlfriend being a vegetarian, ordered the vegetarian meatloaf. As she was eating it she commented that it tasted just like meat and she was impressed how accurately they had emulated the taste. The explanation for this was simple — they had actually served her the regular meatloaf. Talk about an unpleasant surprise for someone that has not eaten meat for 8+ years. To me as a non-vegetarian it’s not a big deal, but for someone who does it out of conviction or religious reasons it is a huge deal. In all fairness to Ziggy’s they apologized profusely and even comped us the meal. The second time, I ordered the Grilled Salmon and my GF the Sunday special Tofu stir-fry. The salmon was ok, but then again all grilled things are. The stir-fry sounded better on paper than in real life — essentially it was burnt — my GF loves tofu in all shapes and forms but this was inedible. For an extra $ 1.50 we added the acorn squash thinking it was something special, it wasn’t. The dish was just a bland acorn squash with a few nuts thrown on it as an afterthought. The third visit was merely out of convenience as it is within walking distance from where we live. I had the chickpea burger which was tasteless my GF’s nephew had a pizza which was drowning in gooey cheese that turned into a congealed mess while he was eating it. There is a green restaurant in the area that serves healthy dishes that are tasty and cheap. So it is possible — however, Ziggy’s has failed to accomplish this. While their menu sounds good in print — the dishes consistently fail to deliver, they are boring and tasteless. I really wanted to like Ziggy’s as it is within walking distance from my home — but I would rather drive the 10 minutes to the other green restaurant and have some awesome fare.

Though I was misdirected here by a friend who thought this place was vegetarian(haha thanks a lot), I thought this place was charming and the burger(ostrich burger!) was excellent. I would sum up the menu as diner foods, with a healthy and unique twist. The waiter was super nice and helpful with the crazy stuff they had on the menu. I could tell most of the diners were regulars as the employees knew them by name, and felt like i was a guest in someone’s home or like at a bed and breakfast. The place is very homily, and not restaurant-y at all. There’s even a couple tables in the front yard w/umbrellas.

Note to everyone: This Ziggy’s location is no longer dog-friendly. Per city health codes, animals can’t be within X-amount of feet from where food is served. But that has no reflection on my review. Rules are rules. I’ve only been here twice, and the other, I ordered from across the street at Boheme and they brought it over to me. Hummus is great, mac and cheese(with a dash of black pepper and hot sauce) even better; but *stay away* from the veggie loaf sandwich. Oh, this literally made me quiver. Tasted like bird food. Perhaps if it where sliced thinner(it’s in a sandwich afterall) and not a dry slab of brick, it might have been edible with a dressing of ketchup … but I just couldn’t. My gf who ordered the same couldn’t finish it either. And the«spicy tomato soup» had the texture of canned diced tomato stew and in fact, wasn’t spicy at all. I just had a spicy carrot soup at Te House of Tea, and *that’s* what you call a great soup. Ziggy’s, please take note. Thank goodness for our side salads and mac and cheese, though. Our server was very apologetic, but we reassured her it wasn’t her fault, and we were fine with leaving semi-full. I’ve had other menu items(tilapia, chicken and baked squash) at the now-closed W Alabama location, and was pleased, so no major harm Ziggy’s. I’ll be back to check out brunch on the patio now that sunny Sundays are back again. Just not for veggie loaf and soup.

AWESOME!!! Came here for lunch Sunday(honestly, only because my ‘usual place’ Kim Tai was closed), and boy am I glad that I did!!! The place was packed, but we were seated outside by our waitress(Heather – She was absolutely PHENOMENAL!!) I ordered the Sunday Special: Stir fry-marinated tofu in a sweet spicy sauce with broccoli and sweet potatoes over brown rice with a side salad($ 9) and it was DELICIOUS!!!(The BF even liked it, and he doesn’t like tofu!) I ordered their famous Carrot Cookie sandwich to-go, along with a piece of sugar free cherry pie and an oatmeal chocolate chip muffin. The carrot cake cookie was o.k. – not really my style, as it wasn’t sweet enough. The cherry pie was excellent, as was the oatmeal choc. chip muffin. In fact, the item that I was sure to be my least favorite(the oatmeal muffin) turned out to be the best of all three desserts. An overall lovely dining experience, with really really good food and excellent wait staff(Heather)! :-D

OK people, this place has officially become a fav place for my partner and I, especially on a nice sunny/clear/warm weekend. Make sure to take a seat inside, with huge windows and lots of light, you do feel like having brunch inside your own living room! People that comes here also are normal, unpretentious crowds… Due to the convenient location, we usually ends up having coffee either at CoCo Crepes or Groundz Coffee afterward, either before or after we stock up our wine at Specs! The last time i was here, i ordered the Ziggy’s Breakfast Hash, YUMMY. With tons of sweet potato fries mixed with generous portion of tasty spiced ground turkey and for the side I had the fruits cup and muffin. Fresh fruits with very soft & buttery muffin(more like a biscuit). So, if you feel like eating healthy in a relax atmosphere, go Ziggy!
