I was dating a girl last summer who is absolutely nutty about mac and cheese. So naturally when she came to visit, I had to take her here! It was decent. Price was a little high for what it was, and it wasn’t a lot of food. Taste was eh. The bbq mac just tasted like cheap brisket stirred into mac and cheese, and with a squirt of some bottled bbq sauce. Meh. Personally I think she made much better mac from scratch at her apartment(the secret ingredient was pesto). Swing and a miss!

I have to say, it was not the best meal this go round – in fact it was awful. The chicken was something I’ve never tasted before to the point that I spit mine into a napkin and my 6 year old son who LIVES for chicken tenders with mac and cheese would not eat his chicken. It was like fried flappy chicken skin with barely and actual chicken and the chicken was dark and dry. Also, my wooden tray that held my skillet had dried old food on it from a previous meal. It was really not good at all. I ordered wedge salad and it was also a mess. It had everything except bacon. I heard someone tell the lady at the table next to me that they squeezed the last bits of caeser dressing onto her DRY salad and couldn’t giver her more. Now the mac and cheese was absolutely delicious. Like super good but there was about only one large serving spoon’s worth of it in my skillet. BUT hats off to Tony! He bent over backwards to ensure that we enjoyed our visit and he did everything he could to make up for the poor quality of the food. I’ve honestly rarely seen someone work as much as I saw him working by himself yesterday. He genuinely cared that we had a good experience. I hope that he is rewarded for that kind of loyalty to the company because it’s almost indefensible to have to serve that kind of food to anyone or to have to explain that the kitchen was out of things. I wish this company well but we may stay away for a while and wait for them to work out these new kinks.

1.49 stars today, tops. Quality has taken a serious nosedive. 13 tables in the place, and 5 are dirty. Not like a few crumbs or napkins, but whole plates of food and empty pint glasses. Staff was fairly helpful, but they were out of the ingredients that were used to make the first 2 dishes I asked for. Cmon son! Food finally hits the table, and I see they’ve done away with the skillets in favor of pie pans. Ok, where are the forks and napkins? Dispensers are empty of forks, spoons and napkins, but hey, at least they have knives. Mac and cheese has decent flavor, but nowhere near the tasty creations I fondly remember. My buddies’ order was wrong, and I was done eating before he got his food. Sigh. Moral of the story– this is what happens when you get complacent as an owner and stop dropping by to check on your business. The teens and college kids you hire as cheap hourly labor will run your place in the ground, and you’ll lose repeat customers. Can’t say I ever be back, and don’t think I’ll be too sad about it either. Oh yeah, when we left, the number of dirty tables is now 6…

It was a LONG weekend tromping around the GRB for Comicpalooza and the last thing I wanted to do was COOK. Hubby went for take-out. I was willing to give it a go. I had wanted to try it. I am glad I did otherwise I would have wondered. OK. Been there. Done that. Not my thing. ATALL. I got BORED. To me Mac is and should be a side dish. I had the Cheese and Chong. It was HEAVY and it was just too much. I needed other tastes and all I had was MAC. The first 6 bites were OK and then I was well… what else is there??? OH more MAC. Yeah well… and? Plus the choices are not exactly driving me to go wow let me try this now. The dish felt so heavy in my tummy. Do not get me wrong, I have had Mac n Cheese that I have fixed as a meal plenty of times, yah know that Kraft Mac n Cheese stuff? And it was just fine. But I am going to a restaurant, well having take out from one and it is different. I want it to be an experience and not feel like I have a lead ball in my tummy. And that is what it was like to me. I was not satisfied. I had leftovers. Take out does that. My hubby asked«do you want to keep it?» No. I had zero interest in ever eating another bite of what I ordered from Jus Mac. I have zero interest of ever trying another Jus Mac dish because that is all it is MAC. I need to have a choice in my meal from a restaurant and not a ball of cheesey pasta my tummy and still feel hungry. I felt hungry still because what I had was just not satisfying. It was too much MAC. Not happy with this fad and that is what it is… this is a FADRESTAURANT. It is a trendy flash in the pan wow this sounds cool and look at all the man buns here that love it. Rolls eyes. Yeah… I will just keep on keeping on. Not for me Thanks. Meh… Halley Puppy farts in the general direction on Jus Mac.

We liked the variety of options for Mac and cheese but after one or two visits the novelty wears off. The staff is always great but the food is a little more greasy than it needs to be.

Management is the huge problem here! I love the other location, but this one needs to fix their issues: 1. Unfriendly employees with attitudes. They just don’t care if you give them business or not. 2. They don’t answer their phone half the time. 3. Kitchen staff are very loud and yell profanity at each other– there are kids eating here, so this is a problem 4. They run out of food(or say they do). However they don’t tell you this until you arrive– why don’t you tell us this when we place the order??? 5. Place is dirty. I’ve only been here 3 times, but I’ve had enough. No place should treat customers the way they do– they’re food quality doesn’t make up for their many issues.

This has been my go to lunch spot every Sunday for quite some time now. My girlfriend and I were caught off guard this weekend when we realized that there was no «personal sized» serving anymore. Forcing one to pay at the very minimum $ 7.00 for Mac and Cheese. We were also punished for not paying for a beer or soda by receiving a microscopic cup to use for water. Extremely disappointed that we won’t be coming back here anymore. Time to find a new lunch spot that is not Jus Mac. Post-Meal Update: Nice try, Jus Mac. There is no way that the new«skillet» size is more food. It’s the same, if not less, just thrown into a larger pan.

The main item I have gotten since the heights location opened which was also served at this location, the home run, is no longer available. They also don’t have the hot dog as an add on anymore. I’m not sure what prompted them to get rid of it but I wasn’t able to get what I was wanting for lunch. Instead, I ordered the Quattro with ground beef. I can say that I am not pleased with this dish. It’s too watery. Either the cheese sauce was watery, they didn’t put enough of the 4 cheese in it, or they didn’t drain the ground beef before adding it to the mac and cheese. This will not be a combination I order again. Despite this setback today, I will continue trying new dishes there. Hopefully they won’t all be runny mac and cheese or I’ll have to stop going.

First, the Mac n’ cheese did not disappoint! I had goat cheese, basil, mushrooms and onion. Wifey had cheeseburger and Birthday boy had goat cheese, basil and tomato. All were delicious! The restaurant was a bit dirty though. Tables were not bussed and when they did bus them — they didn’t wipe them down. The front counter had that unmistakeable dirty dishwater smell which was kinda nasty since that’s where you order your food. We don’t drink, but they had a nice beer and wine selection if you do. Overall could easily have 4 stars from me if they would clean it up a little.

Came here at 8:45 pm on Friday. They had several people dining in. My friend and I ordered the big easy(Cajun) and the pit master(bbq). They used to have the option for whole wheat pasta. They no longer have that option. I know Mac & cheese is not the healthiest but at least we could feel a little better about eating it. They also used to have 2 different sizes to choose from but now I think they only have 1 size because the cashier didn’t ask us what size we wanted. Our 2 orders cost $ 22.09. Both were tasty. I love Mac & cheese. Disappointed they longer have whole wheat pasta. :(I’ll be back though!

I’ve been to the Heights location a number of times and have always had a 5 star experience so I expected the same at this location. My hopes were quickly dashed by the rude girl working the counter. When I went to pay, I handed her a $ 20 bill and was told they«don’t accept large bills.» Did I miss something? Since when is a $ 20 bill a large bill? My sister then ordered behind me and requested the Friday special, which was crab mac n cheese. She was then told they were out of it. How were they out of their Friday special after only being open for three hours? How about you go to the bank and get some change, and while you’re at it pick up some crab, how hard is that?! After sitting down at the table, they brought our food out and my sister’s dish had bread crumbs on top. She told the server she ordered it without breadcrumbs. He took it away and said he would have to «yell at the owner because he made it that way.» Literally three minutes later, he came back with what we thought was a new dish. After digging in to take a bite, she still noticed quite a few breadcrumbs in the dish. It was apparent they had attempted to scrape off the breadcrumbs and cover it with more cheese. To know the owner did that is so lazy and unprofessional. My sister then took it to the counter and told the cashier it still had breadcrumbs on it and she had ordered the dish without breadcrumbs. The cashier seemed annoyed and not even a simple apology was made; she didn’t even say a word about it, just took the dish and walked away. A couple of minutes later, she came by the table and said with an attitude that it was«going to be a few minutes for a new dish.» That was what we would have expected in the first place had they not tried to be cheap and cut corners. Finally the dish came out, but again never an apology from the server for the item not being as ordered twice. It was basically dumped on the table and we were treated as if we were being difficult. It was funny because we noticed another guy that came in a few minutes after us trying to pay with a $ 20 and he was also told they«don’t accept large bills.» His order came out wrong too and he had to send it back! It was 2:30 in the afternoon and this place was not that busy. There were maybe 8 tables in there so that’s 1 in 4 tables being disappointed. The worst part is knowing the owner was in the back and aware of the issues, but did not address them. It’s true what they say when you can tell how good a manager is by the way the staff acts. The manager must not care that much about his business because he doesn’t train his staff to have good customer service. The food was good but not worth the aggravation or the trouble of trying to find a parking spot. Also there were gnats flying around the table… gross.

I have been a longtime loyal customer of Jus Mac, well before they opened their second(Montrose) and third(Sugarland) locations. We tried most everything on the menu at some point or another and found our favorites, straying from those very rarely. The original location, and then the Montrose location became a favorite for afternoons when my son and I wanted to spend some time together. Pretty religiously, we would go in and order our favorites, The Cowboy and a Home Run. At one point, Jus Mac changed up the recipe to The Cowboy. However, it was an easy fix for me to remove the coleslaw.(Really, though, coleslaw? That just didn’t seem right.) When my son had his tonsils removed, one of the first«solid» foods that he ate was an order of Home Run. Today, I had a minor surgery and asked my wife to pick up Jus Mac to bring home. I texted her our orders so that she wouldn’t have any trouble figuring out exactly how I ordered mine. This is where my tale of infatuation with Jus Mac comes to a screeching halt. They had removed both of our favorites from the menu. I can’t imagine that putting hot dogs in Mac and Cheese was too difficult, so I’m not sure what happened to the Home Run. For my Cowboy, they suggested to my wife that they could make me something that would taste similar. I told my wife that they would, undoubtedly, make me a Pitmaster. Jus Mac, in case you are wondering, brisket and pulled pork are NOT the same thing. They don’t taste the same. They don’t have the same texture. A Pitmaster can not be considered an appropriate substitute for The Cowboy. Jus Mac removed The Cowboy from the menu at one time(something about a pork supplier issue) and it came back. I am really hoping that they reverse their decision on The Cowboy and Home Run(what kid doesn’t like hot dogs in his Mac?). If not, I’m not sure that we would be able to go back. There just isn’t much on the menu that we would eat, much less make the drive for.

Jus’ Mac was a recent addition to the Midtown scene a couple years ago. Initially, I fell in love with the place and its comfort concept. However, since its launch we’ve seen a consistent downward trend with the joint. On our last visit the smell of chemicals combined with vomit omitted us from the 11 table small space. Tonight, I asked to simply sample the homemade chili prior to committing to having the chili and cheese«radical» dish. The obtuse man behind the counter said«hold on, let me ask»? Ask? Really? Shockingly enough he returned and said one word«No»? What??? I can’t even have a spoonful of the chili to make sure I want a dish based upon something so challenged in the State of Texas? Wow! So, of course he explains that the MOD made the call. I asked for him to come out to speak with me. «He’s busy cooking and will come out later». By then, we’ve already ordered. So when he does come out finally, I said«I’m done. We’ve ordered already.» Without a word, he turns around and walks away. Seriously? Wow! Last time I’ll waste 24.09 on two plates and a beer in this substandard establishment. This is NO way to treat customers and no Midtown-like. (By the way, half of the beer taps were out too! #failallaround)

If you love mac n cheese and you wanna and some spice to your life, then look no further! This little establishment is tucked away in a business plaza. Parking is limited so probably try to avoid peak times. Especially since it’s self seating. Also if you’re interested in the Mac n Cheese Balls get there early because they sell out fast! I know this for future reference because my guest and I missed out on it. Any who, I ordered the regular size buffalo chicken pan. It was very creamy, cheese, with a nice buffalo flavor kick! I liked the crispy topping that was added. It was something about it that just topped it all off perfectly. My guest had the Pit Master in a personal size. I must say that sweet bbq sauce really makes that dish to die for! So, if you’re looking for a nice little secluded dine in then I’d defiantly recommend this place for sure.

I’m currently at Jus Mac in Houston. I’m here from Dallas and have been here before and was so happy with my meal. Today, we arrived to find that the beer tap wall wasn’t working — first let down. Then, my husband ordered the«Buffalo Chicken» after the waitress shared it was the most popular dish. When my husband took a bite he realized he didn’t like it so like at any other restaurant, we politely told the waitress we’d like a substitution. She immediately rolled her eyes and went to the back. Upon returning she told us that she could exchange the dish but could give a «discount». We asked to speak to the manager and he argued that he «couldn’t do that» until he finally snatched the plate and said«fine, I could lose my job over this.» I don’t know what type of customer or food service Jus Mac hopes they’re serving. I hope the owner and other patrons know otherwise.

As a mac and cheese fanatic, it’s no surprise that I’ve been here multiple times. I love the unique variations of mac and cheese they have to offer, as some of my favorites include the Pit Master(includes brisket and delicious BBQ sauce), Cheese and Chong(include chicken, pesto, mushrooms, and pieces of fried onion), and Big Easy(includes sausage, onions, and peppers). Each bite is a creamy mouthful of heavenly goodness. Make sure to add bread crumbs on top(it’ll make all the difference in the world)! If you’re visiting in a large group and looking for a great way to start off your meal, I would highly recommend the mac balls — warm, fried, doughy goodness stuffed with cheesy mac inside. In terms of sizes, most people are content with just ordering the personal size. Although the plate itself may appear small, keep in mind that mac and cheese is heavy, creamy, and rich, so you’ll be full pretty quickly. It never hurts to order a regular size though(especially if you want to save your leftovers for lunch tomorrow… hint hint). Service can be a bit slow at times, but overall, Jus’ Mac is a solid place to come to for anyone’s mac and cheese cravings. Inevitably, you’ll leave this place stuffed and in need of a long nap… who’s to say that’s a bad thing?

Speedy & friendly service. Local beers on tap go great with food. My friend ordered a relatively bland spinach and chicken mac– which she said needed a little more flavor. I ordered the veggie panini with mushrooms, spinach & onions that was delicious. It required some siracha dipping because I, too, really like flavorful food. I also ordered a wedge salad that was great too. Try this place out but make sure to grab siracha and/or hot sauce!

GOTREATYOURSELF, FORGETTHECARBS, ANDGOFORTHEREGULARSIZE. The personal size is small for someone that comes in hungry. I had the Rustic – tomatoes, basil, mozz and parm(I believe) and I did think the personal size was small(esp for the price). Flavour wise, though, it is pretty good. I just thought the cheeze was a little too liquid and didn’t really stick to the mac, but nbd. It’s my first time to this place but I’d like to come back and try their other mac and cheese products. I asked – they do have whole wheat macaroni for an extra 75¢.

Whats the best part about Friday lunches with coworkers? Our mutual love for good ol’ mac n cheese! Gluttony at its finest. Disclaimer– this place is not for a faint hearted, diet-obsessed, new agey Kardashians who eat salted ice cubes. This is REAL comfort food. As comforting as a Snuggly Onesie and Godiva Hot chocolate on a La-Z-Boy. If you want to change the way you look at mac n cheese and perhaps food and you’re life, GETTHEHANGOVER. Trust me, I’ve made this recommendation to 11 people now and 11 people owe me something awesome. Dont get gluten free, no bread crumbs, low cheese, wheat elbow mac, please! Show some respect to this dish. Get it the way it was intended to by its maker, relish it and go back to work, feeling productive, down with a case of hugs, and in love with Houston.

My introduction to Jus Mac was actually when a friend gave me a leftover fried mac n’ cheese ball, refrigerated cold with cold marinara sauce. Despite having the option to microwave it, I went the lazy route and ate it cold. And it was glorrrrious. Naturally, when a girlfriend suggested going to catch up a few months later, I said heck yes. On a cold rainy day, some warm mac n’ cheese was the best choice for lunch. We shared a mini cheech and chong mac n’ cheese topped with bread crumbs, per the suggestion of the nice guy behind the counter, ever helpful toward this first-timer. Though my lunch company for the day wasn’t a fan of mushrooms, we enjoyed our order. The place wasn’t very crowded for lunch, though I could see it being a little different perhaps during happy hour or dinner time. It’s situated in a good spot between the busier areas of Montrose and the hot spots of Midtown. Parking is limited, but as always in Houston, to the streets! Back to food-The mini mac was the perfect size for us, though on a different [hungrier] day I would probably be ambitious enough to eat the whole thing by myself. Also, you must opt for bread crumbs.

Exactly that… just Mac. If you’re not a fan of Mac and cheese(not the short lived Joey Tribiani-led TV show) but the all American dish, then stop reading and don’t eat here. Now if you’re still reading, it means you have taste and are ready to taste some amazing dish combinations. I decided to go with the Big Easy. A Louisiana-inspired Mac and cheese featuring andouille sausage and peppers. Very, very good. My youngest when with a classic but added bacon(you can basically add anything you want). My other son went a little after my own heart and added chili, cheese and hot dogs. Topped with Fritos. Basically a chili cheese Mac frito pie. Delicious! This place is small so not a lot of tables but it’s clean and they have a nice selection of beer on tap. I only wish they had examples out of how big their sizes are. A personal seemed way too small. If you’re hungry, get the regular. You won’t be disappointed.

Every adult has that inner kid in them that has the blue box blues once in a while, and I bet many of us have tried to make our own mac and cheese creations beyond the box and hit every mistake possible: not enough cheese, overcooked pasta, wrong noodles, and way to much liquid. Jus’ Mac delivers, banishing all our home cooked faux pas, and presenting us with a Mac and cheese treasure. First off I love the cast iron skillets your delicious goldenness is brought out to you in, with its own comfy handle holder, atop a wooden board. Ordered: Hangover(labeled VERYSPICY) — Hash browns, fried egg, topped with pico de gallo and habanero sauce. The personal size($ 7.95) is perfect for one(no sharing, you wont want to). This has just the right amount of «spicy» to me as it left my lips with just enough tingle to where I was still comfortable. I ponder adding Sriracha that is readily available at all tables, this place knows what’s up, but after eating half, I found it great just as it came. My fried egg was a little overcooked to my liking but that’s a minor and might just be a personal preference, I like my eggs medium easy. The hash browns were like a crust underneath the delicious cheesy presentation and had a crispy texture that gave this dish a crunch that I enjoyed. Parking is let me down right honest, the pits. If your not watching people like a hawk to swoop in and snag their spot you may be doing a few circles or just sitting in the parking lot, not to mention the lot itself is small so maneuvering skills must be high. From the pictures it looks like they only have bar top style tables, don’t be discouraged like I was at first to bring my little guy. While they don’t have a designated kids meal, they do have their own cheesy traditional rendition of mac n cheese. There are 4⁄5 tables the booth chair combo along the wall, and they did have two high chairs located front left side of the ordering counter. They have a pretty good selection of beers on tap, though I didn’t get to browse them this trip, but perhaps on the next.

Picture it. Rich, creamy, mouthwatering cheese drizzled over well cooked pasta with crunchy bread crumbs. Now picture alongside that mac and cheese, you have savory brisket with BBQ sauce. This cheat day dream is just one of the kinds of dishes you’ll find at Jus Mac. The dish I described above was the Pit Master, and it’s my personal favorite. The brisket is well cooked and I think the personal size is enough to fill most people up. The chicken and waffles, on the other hand, were a bit disappointing. I think I’d much rather have the the mac and cheese as a separate side from the chicken and waffles. The chicken was also a bit overcooked for my taste, and there wasn’t anything special about the waffle. All in all, if it’s your cheat day, and you’re looking for a delicious way to gorge yourself on carbs, Jus Mac won’t let you down. The interior is dimly lit but has a very casual feel, and while parking can be a pain, the food comes out pretty quick. I’ll definitely be coming back. Service 3.5÷5 Food 4⁄5 Ambiance 4⁄5

The first time I came here I ordered their panini. It was good, but I wanted to come back to try what they are known for, their famous mac and cheese. I ordered the Pop Eye. My sister got the Rustic. The dishes were both definitely tasty. But, I liked the Pop Eye much more. The Rustic is much cheesier than the Popeye. I felt that Popeye had the right amount of cheese to flavor ratio. However, I have never been a fan of too much cheese. Which brings me to my next point. This place will not turn you into a cheese lover if you aren’t already one. After a while, both of us felt that our meals were getting hard to get through and I regretted coming here. The personal size is plenty enough if you have a smaller stomach. Your order will come out in a black bowl about the size of your hand leaving you wondering if you should have gone with a regular. Trust me, it is large enough. Cheese is filling. The ambience is modern with metal furniture and indie music. This was the summer so natural lighting was used to light up the inside. But the interior is small. It got easily packed after a large group of college students showed up. They don’t take Discover card. And parking can be a problem. The lot isn’t too large. It is in the Montrose area after all. To summarize — I left feeling like I needed to eat a salad.

If you like mac & cheese at all, this is the place for you! You will find variations on mac & cheese here that you never thought possible, and all incredibly delicious. One of my friends used to travel to Houston from out of state pretty often back in high school, and every time she came she had to stop at Jus’ Mac — it’s that good! I got the Bacon Bliss mac & cheese in a personal size. The personal looks really small when you get it but I was stuffed after eating not even half of it. But man oh man was it good. A lot of reviews on here say that the Bacon Bliss didn’t have enough bacon on it, but I actually thought the opposite — there was tons of bacon, cheese, and overall deliciousness in that little pan. I’d definitely recommend it, though I think next time I’m going to try the Quattro or Half Baked. The bf got the Tikka(chicken masala with pepper jack), which was pretty spicy but very flavorful. I don’t like spiciness so I wouldn’t order it myself, but he loved it and had a hard time deciding whether his favorite is that one or the Cheeseburger. Food gets a 5/5, but the venue is what brings Jus’ Mac down to a 4⁄5 star rating for me. The ambiance is cool, kind of a dark wood bar-like vibe, but the place is tiny and even though there were several available tables when we got there, there were dirty dishes and napkins all over them and the staff just never got around to cleaning them up. They finally wiped down one table so we sat there, but when we left some of the tables still had those same old dishes on them. Also there’s no outdoor seating, which warrants a major down vote for me. But overall, any place that sells all mac & cheese is pretty much heaven to me, so despite the seating and venue I’ll absolutely be coming back.
