Workhorse is wonderful, not only is the environment a relaxed and friendly one, but the artists working there are very talented and professional. I look forward to booking future appointments! I was introduced to workhorse through Kat Fullerton, a kind and vibrant artist who genuinely cares about her clients wants and needs. And through her I met Kat Adlerz, the owner of workhorse and a woman of great talent. I believe that this shop has many things to offer if you’re looking for a phenomenal tattoo in a laid back atmosphere.

Kat Fullerton is what brought me to Workhorse tattoo. She did exquisite work on me and I am looking forward to going back and getting more done.

I’ve been working on a Thai inspired piece on my leg for the last couple months and I can’t speak highly enough of this place. Mark is a phenomenal artist and is great at helping you take the bits and pieces you want and create a real work of art. The space itself has a great atmosphere — clean, low key, and professional. While I haven’t had any work done by Kat, everything I’ve seen of hers is amazing. Regardless of the artist you’re going to walk away thrilled. Doesn’t hurt to get a little puppy love coming and going either

Just had the first phase of my tatoo completed by Kat. Did an excellent job incorporating my ideas and vision and making helpful recommendations to make it the best possible tattoo. This was my first tattoo, something I’ve been carefully approaching for years. I am so very glad I chose Kat @ Workhorse Tatoo Co! Excellent linework, and the healing is going well due to the high quality of cleanliness, equipment, and gentle touch. I was very nervous about picking a tattoo artist b/c my piece requires very straight uniform lines for a clean traditional American style tatoo. Going back for color and shading next month to finish up my piece. This private studio was definitely the way to go as opposed to a typical walk-in type tatoo parlor. We were able to take our time and have a discussion about what I wanted to make it a great first time experience. Highly recommended!

Never received a refund for the deposit I paid when Kat flaked on our appointment. I suspect this may be how they make any money at all, deposits reneged upon. Also I got a personal message about this from her asking me to take down this review when they saw this. Talk about unprofessional. smh

Kat is one of my favorite artists in Houston. She works extremely hard to make sure you leave with the perfect tattoo even though it might not be what you initially had in mind. She’s kind about it, too. Some people will just say no but Kat patiently explains why which is so helpful. Her customer service is amazing and art is her passion and it shows.

Two of my tattoos are by Kat, but I’ll recommend her the most for the one that she didn’t do. After seeing her portfolio, I knew I wanted Kat to tattoo me. I came to her with an idea that had been percolating in my head for a few years, but I wasn’t quite sure how to execute it. We scheduled an appointment, but when I got there, she explained that she was terribly sorry, but she just couldn’t do the tattoo. She’d consulted with a few other artists, and no one could come up with a way to do what I wanted and have it look good. What I wanted would have ended up looking like something else or, worse, cartoony. She showed me a few of the technical reasons why the tattoo wouldn’t work, and I knew that she was right. We talked a little more about what I wanted and why I wanted it and what I liked, and she worked with me to come up with another idea. We consulted a few times, and she added some things after a few suggestions. And I LOVE it so much. It’s perfect on my body, it was designed just for me, and it looks fantastic. Later, when I wanted another piece for my shoulder blade, I put together a pinterest board of various ideas, and she worked off of that to come up with a beautiful design that I love. Both of my tattoos are very colorful, and I enjoyed the process of getting them immensely. They’ve also held up pretty well. The first is about a year and a half old, and still looks great. The second is eight months old and looks brand new. I was really impressed by Kat’s work ethic and her willingness to hold her position to ensure that I had the very best work possible. I suppose she could have gone ahead and done the bad idea tattoo, but it was important to her that my tattoo look great. And that’s what you really want in a tattoo artist.

I spent a lot of time searching for the right person and place to get some ink done. I got in contact with Kat, and set up a consultation to go see her. She spent 45 minutes talking to me and picking my brain so that she could convey my image, and did not even charge me. Through continued communication, in her downtime nonetheless, she put together something truly special to me, and the work has begun. I cannot express enough gratitude towards her work, professionalism, and ethic. She is amazing. If you are contemplating getting tattooed, please do yourself justice and get in touch with Kat at Workhorse Tattoo Company, you won’t be disappointed. As honored as I am for what Kat has done, she was also proud enough to show off my tattoo to her friends and acquaintances. That also showed me how much pride she takes in her work and clientele. There are tons of choices out there these days for body art, but it does not get any better than this!

I got my first – and probably last and only – tattoo with Kat, and she was AMAZING. First of all, I did a ton of research all up and down Montrose to find someone who was willing to do a bluebonnet as small as I wanted. Most artists tried to talk me into a much bigger piece, or said it would just look like a blob. Kat drew something up for me for free, and it was gorgeous. I get a million compliments. Even more important for a self-conscious first-timer, Kat made me feel totally comfortable, and my two friends holding my hand didn’t phase her even a little tiny bit. She was amazing in every respect, and even fielded panicked late-night texts from me the next day when a little ink came up. I can’t recommend her highly enough, both on her own merits and in comparison to everyone else I talked to. My tattoo was not expensive for the quality of the work, and if I ever want another one, Kat is 100% where I’ll go, even though I live thousands of miles away.

I’ve been frequentling Gaslight Gallery for my tattoo needs for the past three years. During that time, I’ve referred several others – both friends and complete strangers – to that place because I’m downright evangelical about Kat Adlerz’ work. However, when Kat left to open her own private studio, it was a no-brainer as to where my loyalties lay. I’ve been seeing Kat since 2009. Her amazing color work won my heart as soon as I saw her portfolio, and I’d venture to say she’s an even better artist now than she was when she first tattooed me. What started out as a simple floral piece has blossomed into a half-sleeve with plans for additions after we’re done. I’m currently on hour 11, and I know I’ll have to have at least one more sitting before we’re done with this phase, but every time I walk in I leave utterly dumbfounded at her skill. She’s done things with ink and skin that I never thought possible. I get compliments almost every time I step out of the house thanks to her amazing work. The shop itself is a converted studio apartment in the back of a house on Peden Street, near Cecil’s and that area of W. Gray. If you visited Kat back when she was at Gaslight Gallery, you’ll be happy to know she isn’t stuck into a tiny closet any more. There’s plenty of room for her bench and a new chair, and an adjoining patio area for stretching out during breaks in the tattooing process. It’s the perfect amount of space for Kat and her apprentice, and as a result I can already tell being in business for herself really suits Kat. The name of the shop suits her perfectly because Kat really is one of the hardest working women I know. Available by appointment only, and you should be respectful of the neighbors while you’re there. This isn’t the kind of place where you can stroll in and pick something off the wall. Kat’s a real artist, and if you don’t believe me, I’ll happily offer my right arm as literal proof. While Unilocal’s glacial update process grinds away in the background, here’s Kat’s number: 832.594.6907
