They DONOT make«bear claws.» If you ask for one you will be told so. I pointed at the pastry closely resembling a bear claw and was immediately corrected and educated that they only produce«apple fritters.» She continued to school me of the VAST difference. Awesome. It’s 4:30 am. I get a couple of additional items. When I asked for the chocolate cake donut she wanted to be sure I didn’t want the chocolate«iced.» Not, I’m sure I want the chocolate cake. Omg…it’s 4:30… I asked for the Caphin coffee. Apparently she didn’t like how I pronounced that either. Fantastic! I told her this was my first time here. She just laughed at how funny that was. I told her, no, not really. On average I have a donut once a year, maybe every 2 years. Hopefully I’ll recall all her tutiledge in 2017 or so.

Now that I’ve had the chance to try Christy’s donuts and kolaches, I’m ready for review time. Christy’s Donuts is not the type of place that tries to impress you based on their looks. In fact, it looks like a pretty run down building from the outside. While most donut shops aren’t spectacular, this is a grab-and-go type place even though they have some tables. I’ve had their kolaches and they are your typical kolaches. Nothing special but solid and I love kolaches. As far as their donuts, they don’t have any of the crazy donuts you see at some shops with bacon or cereal but they have all of the classics. I got a half of dozen for my office: 2 glazed, 2 blueberry cake, 1 bavarian cream, and 1 strawberry filled. The strawberry filled was decent but the strawberry filling tasted too artificial. I enjoyed their blueberry cake a lot more which is one of their most popular and had a great texture. Their classic glazed is also a good choice. They gave me two free donut holes which they seem to give to everyone based on the number of donuts you order. A nice touch that’s appreciated! Parking can be an issue at peak times but people move in and out quickly.

The staff was very prompt and friendly first thing on a Saturday morning. The glazed doughnuts were awesome, even though they were not hot out of the deep fat fryer. The kolaches were the main thing I went to get, and they were okay. The bread was a bit dry on the ends and the roll wasn’t sweet enough, IMHO. They were heated in the microwave before I left, so it could have been the microwave that killed it for me. I will definitely go back for the doughnuts anytime.

Christy’s Donuts is hands down the best tasting kolache. My favorite kind is the jalapeño and cheese. Once you try them here there’s no going back to Kolache Factory or Shipley’s gross tasting hot dog-like version. Christy’s is located off of Montrose and W Gray. The parking can be a little challenging on weekends, but most people run in and get their order and quickly leave. The staff have always been nice and prices are good as well. I’ve been coming here for years and hope they stick around even as the area continues to rapidly change with new construction.

Great prices, quick friendly service, parking is sketchy, but worth the hassle. Got some free Donut Holes which were greatly appreciated. My Apple Fritter was yummy! You can tell this place has been here for a minute.

Best donuts in Houston, hands down! Every donut flavor is delicious and cheap. I love donuts and am constantly seeking the best donut shop around, but I always end up back at Christy’s. They can’t be beat!

Arrived a little after 5:30AM on Friday, there were a few customers in front of me, it was apparent these were regular customers after seeing their interaction with the employees. I’m trying to find that special early morning donut shop, this place tops my list in Houston up to this point, there are a number of things that works well here in my opinion. 1st — Fairly large private parking lot with easy access from a number of directions, with Christy’s corner lot location getting in out of here is quick and painless. 2nd — Great Service, plenty of help on hand ensures the wait here will be short, the glass cases were filled with all the offerings on the menu board, there’s no doubt this place gets slammed during rush hour. so if you find your wait is longer than you planned for, my advice is get here earlier. 3rd — This place was clean, very clean, granted its 5:30AM so the crowds haven’t arrived yet but still there were two employees, wiping down the tables, wet mopping the floors, cleaning the rugs and sweeping the outside walkway and storefront. 4th — «Hot Glazed Donuts», this might be attributed to the early morning hour, or the fact that I did ask for them hot, maybe they would of been taken from the case instead of being passed from the kitchen if I hadn’t requested them hot, I’ll never know because I always request plain glazed donuts hot. Like all businesses I am sure there are some negative things you can find here from time to time if you’re looking through a microscope, but the effort is definitely here, after all it’s a donut shop and customers come in waves. I don’t see the need to change anything from what their doing today… Awesome Business!

Solid place to get your donut fix. Definitely above the corporate donut-making establishments. Nothing fancy like maple bacon or fruity pebbles here, but the standard glazed, simply filled, cake, sprinkles, crumb, as well as your typical kolaches, croissants(flaky, buttery goodness!), bear claws and apple fritters – which are remarkable! Parking is a biotch – when it gets busy, it becomes sort of a clusterf***. If you want to avoid that, go early, especially on Fridays. The place needs a face lift, but who cares when it’s not really a dine-in establishment.

WOW. AMAZINGDONUTS. CHEAPPRICES. FASTSERVICE. AMAZINGDONUTS. I tried the blueberry and original donuts and have to say my sweet cravings were definitely satisfied. The donuts weren’t overly sweet and extremely airy, flaky, and fresh. They also throw in one free donut hole for every donut that you buy! Each donut is less than 50 cents. I mean, great food at an extremely good price! Who could ask for anything else? Since there are maybe 20+ different flavors to choose from and a constant influx of customers ready to order their favorite donuts, the friendly staff is so patient to wait for you to decide what you would like to order. They can even make suggestions! The parking may be an issue during peak times in the morning but most people just grab donuts and go so there are usually spots if you are willing to loop around the corner a few times! There are also small tables inside if you can’t wait to eat your sweet treats :) I will definitely be back to more!

Cheap and delish eats with fast and friendly service. The only downside is parking can get a bit tricky during busy hours. However, the turnover is quick so it’s not that big of a problem either.

Super cheap and delicious donuts! I got two for 1.75! Just FYI there is a $ 5 credit minimum. I absolutely love the coffee they make here too! A large is under $ 2

I learned that apparently a kolache is a Texas thing(I have not heard of them before this) and that they are a big deal. Is that right? Boyfriend and I came here to see what the fuss is about, and it seems like a standard donut shop. It smelled super donut-y good, and prices seem fair! They have a pretty big rotation of kolaches(which are like sweet buns filled with meat/cheese or rice, etc??) and we go the one filled with dirty rice and meat. It was pretty good once I got over how unusual it is! Cultural day for me, that is for sure. I would recommend giving this place a try for a donut or kolache. It’s not revolutionary, but sometimes you just want something familiar(or not) and well done.

Pillowy donuts for cheap prices. That is all. I think Christy’s is seriously underrated and deserves a medal – even the service is quick and the people are so patient and friendly. They stick in complimentary donut holes into your bag and their kolaches are massive. Go for the holes or apple fritters, in my opinion – they sold me with their light airiness and yeasty dough flavor tinted with glaze. In the case of the fritter, it’s more fried to a crispy edge and there are apple bits laced with cinnamon that are studded all over it. DELICIOUS. Get a cheap brekki – guaranteed less than 3 dollars – and proceed to stuff your face wonderfully. *Parking at first seems difficult because it’s so teeny, but the turnover is rapid.

Pretty much the best place to get donuts and kolaches in town. After passing the place for years on my way to go bar hopping with friends, we decided to stop by this place on the way out of town early one morning. We were pleasantly surprised that everything we got was delicious. The donuts were light and fluffy; the kolaches were hot and delicious. I’ve made repeat visits multiple times throughout the last 3 years or so and am never disappointed. I used to grab coffee and kolaches for my boyfriend and take them to him at work in the morning since he worked over on Westheimer, but he got another job out of the city so I haven’t been there since February. The only legit complaint I have would be that the tables are usually dirty from the people who eat there earlier. Not a huge deal but unlike some of the more scathing reviews here, I wouldn’t call the place«filthy.» I’ve only eaten in the place twice, so it’s not a deal breaker for me.

I dropped in the other day in route to work. A bit hesitate due to the curb appeal & signage.(Nothing spectacular) but was short on time so. Here goes nothing. Line was long to my surprise but moved fast. People knew exactly what they wanted. I tried the donut holes & turkey/egg/cheese croissant sandwich with a juice. Affordable, very. My total came to like $ 6. The donut holes were good. Flaky, good bread balance & sweet. The sandwich was ok I think my bread was a bit stale there. I ended up making the egg the base of it.

Hands down best kolaches in H town. Parking can be rough in the mornings on the weekends, but if you’re like me and like to sleep in then you’ll be fine by the time you make it to Christy’s. They do accept credit cards and have places sit inside. They have lots of kinds of donuts and other breakfast items.

I can’t speak to their savory options, but their donuts are excellent(miles better than Shipley’s). At $ 6.99 a dozen there’s no reason not to grab a few boxes. The store itself is in Montrose and has that old-school, kind of run-down vibe to it, but often those are the places that turn out the best products, which is certainly the case with Christy’s. I tried a few different ones and, if you forced me to pick a favorite I think I would go with the Old Fashioned, but they really were all great. I would highly recommend Christy’s.

Sitting here at Christy’s, I must say I am enjoying the old school vibe of the place. It isn’t a particularly gorgeous place, but for me I feel quite relaxed eating my donut/kolache and doing my word search puzzles, it’s just one of those places. Christy’s offers a huge selection of donuts, kolaches, and croissants that I was honestly overwhelmed. However it’s hard to go wrong with a plain glazed donut, and it didn’t disappoint! The donut was served warm, perfectly fried with a nice airyness in each bite covered with just the right amount of icing, not too sweet but just sweet enough! The donut holes tasted just as delicious as the donut, but maybe even yummier since it was FREE! We also got a boudain kolache which was packed with flavor but the texture of the«sausage» was off. The casing didn’t give you that nice snap and the rice was a bit mushy, however the bread was spot on, just like their donuts! Overall, great neighborhood shop selling spot on airy donuts, and I can’t wait to be back to try their other offerings!
