Went there for the first time and the food was disgusting. I ordered chicken flautas because you can never go wrong with chicken. It was just awful. My friends ordered margaritas which they say tastes good. But they also agreed that the food was gross. The service was fast and the waiters were really nice.

My favorite place ever! Love their queso and salsa! The chimichangas are to die for! My only complaint is how incredibly hot the plate was. I bumped my arms across it a lot and have red marks. The food is worth it. Just be aware of how hot the plates are when they bring them to you. Truly the most delicious Mexican food in Houston. The building could use some updating but then it wouldn’t be Tia Maria’s! The staff is friendly and helpful. They listen to your order and make sure it’s right, even when you get chili salsa and cheese on the side! You won’t be disappointed!

Not bad at all. Food was pretty good but nothing spectacular. Prices were very reasonable. There were four of us. We ordered a large queso, fajitas for two, two enchilada dinners and two margaritas and the bill was about $ 59-$ 60. The service was quick. The servers were not overly-friendly but they were efficient. I would definitely go back. But there are much better Mexican or Tex-Mex restaurants in Houston in my opinion.

My favorite tex mex spot on Thursdays with $ 4 margs! Usually during happy hour, there is live music and despite the packed parking lot, there are spaces available to sit. I strongly recommend the chicken fajita! It kills my other options every time I go. Sizzling yet with the requested jalapeños makes a great fajita combo. Corn tortilla is also an option that is not listed.

I’ve never tasted anything bad at this restaurant. Everything has been reallllly yum. I’m giving it a 3 stars for the smell of the place. It always smells like someone just cleaned with pinesol or some other strong smelling product. I hate that. I don’t want to smell cleansers when I walk into a restaurant. Also the bathrooms are also very strong smelling of cleansers. In addition to that the restroom is so pink and dimmed that it makes me wonder what they might be hiding. As I said though; the food has been great. I’ve been about 10 times.

We went here for dinner for the first time tonight and it was disappointing. The chips were good, salsa okay. The margarita on the rocks was weak and tasted watered down, like it had been sitting too long. My two big complaints were with the service and my entrée. I ordered shrimp fajitas with corn tortillas. My friend’s food came out first and the waiter had to ask what I ordered so he could go find it. He confirmed corn tortillas. He goes and finds the entrée and comes back and asks a third time if I wanted corn tortillas.(There are only 2 options, I feel like it shouldn’t have been that hard). While he goes looking for the tortillas I realize that the steaming skillet had 6 shrimp, 2 pieces of green pepper and the rest was onions. No lie, no exaggeration. I actually pulled out the 2 pieces of pepper and left what was probably an entire onion on the skillet. I was so disappointed and disgusted that when the waiter finally came back with the tortillas I sent him back with the skillet. I told him why and that it was kinda gross. He didn’t acknowledge it or even apologize. He just took it away. He never came back to check on us before we finished eating. When our waiter came back to give us our bill he had to ask how many margaritas we had ordered. Apparently they don’t have a system to track orders? We could have lied and how would he have known? Overall, it was just disappointing. I ended up spending $ 15 for 6 shrimp and some rice and beans, plus a watered down margarita. There are better places and better values

Meal portions are good. Service is prompt and staff is friendly. I always enjoy my dining experience here. However, I believe there could be a better arrangement in the seating. Tables in the back left side are too close together.

Will not eat here or any of the other restaurants in this area after what I heard from a customer. I was told they had a salad from there and discovered a magit in it.

I have visited this restaurant for lunch with coworkers at least 1 – 2 times a month for the past few years. The food is always great, and the service is pretty good. There is sometimes a language barrier, but nothing too extreme. I chose to cater my son’s first birthday party from here, and the food and packaging was excellent! They offer lunch prices even on the weekend, so it helped us save a bunch. The food quality was excellent, and all of our guests raved about the food and asked where we got the food from. We ordered combination fajitas, and although both the beef and chicken were delicious, our guests devoured the beef fajitas. The fajitas were tender and flavorful. All the food was packaged really well, except for the pico de gallo, which had leaked a little into the paper bag it was carried into the house in, and the chips and salsa were still warm when my husband brought them home. The fajitas came with the following condiments and such: tortillas, chips, salsa, rice, beans, pico de gallo, guacamole, plates, and plastic-ware. The only things left out were sour cream, cheese, and queso, all of which I was able to buy in bulk from Costco. The only downside is that I got different information every time I called. Most associates don’t have enough information on their catering/bulk order, so they often transferred me to a manager mid-call. It would have been time-saving to just have me speak with a manager from the beginning. Even the managers, however, gave me different information. The biggest piece of misinformation I got was regarding delivery. The first time I spoke with a manager to ask about catering, he informed me that they do not offer catering in terms of providing setup, waiters, etc. but that they do offer bulk orders, which is exactly what I was looking for. He informed me that they also provide free delivery, but the next time I called and spoke with a different manager, I was told that delivery was not available on the weekends. This lack of consistency was frustrating, especially since I had planned on delivery and not pickup the day of the party. All in all, though, this is a great restaurant. The catering order we got for our party was a hit with our guests, and we enjoyed leftovers for a few days! I called around a lot, researching restaurants and their fajita prices. Tia Maria’s was certainly the most reasonably priced, particularly considering the excellent quality of the food.

GOOD over all. Frozen house margarita– STRONG… and very good. Chips and Salsa– Just ok. Salsa a bit watery. But Chips thin and crispy. Queso– Eh. It’s Velveta. Chicken Floutas– Excellent… make sure to order the traditional corn ones. Crispy, thick with lots of chicken. Won’t disappoint you. Enchilada combo– Eh. A bit thin. Gravy just ok.

I was seated immediately even though the restaurant was absolutely packed. I was asked right away what I would like to drink and was greeted immediately with complimentary chips and didn’t have to wait 30 minutes for them! The service is absolutely amazing! I felt like I was the only one in the restaurant even though the restaurant is absolutely packed beyond belief at the moment.

My bf and I come here A LOT! We get the same thing every time — queso, beef fajitas, and, most important, frozen margaritas!!! We’ve ordered other things but they were just OK(minus one star), so we stuck with the fajitas, which are super good! Also, the prices here are great — to get the same at El Tiempo(beef fajitas + margaritas) will cost about double the price. Of course, El Tiempo is more fancy, BUT if you’re looking for a casual restaurant with great food, this place is a must. Enjoy!

I came here for lunch the other day based on a recommendation from a coworker. This place is OK. It’s HUGE! When I pulled up and entered the front there is 2 doors leading up into one, I guess that way they do not miss clients coming from either side of the building? Or just to have an in between area during bad weather? Once you enter you are met at the hostess stand. That’s when you realize this place is gigantic. We were escorted to the right side on this particular luncheon and that side alone is a big restaurant, yet there is a whole other side just as big. I do not know if they ever are at complete capacity but I could not ever see this place having a line/wait. Once seated we saw they have wonderful lunch specials. Nicely priced under 10 bucks and the portions were generous. I had the fajita plate and it could easily feed 2 people. My coworker had the chimicanga(sp?). I had a bite and I was not impressed. The fajitas themselves were ok, basic flavor nothing blow you out of this world. The chips and salsa once again just average. Nothing from the meal blew me out of the water, but it was affordable and fast, which are key characteristics for lunch options.

it was ok. Used to go when I lived closer. Nothing to write home about in my opinion. I had fajitas hard to screw those up. A friend had enchiladas said they weren’t great.

I happened to be in the area and decided to stop by for some good old no nonsense Tex-Mex. Despite it being 8pm on a Saturday night and the parking lot being packed, we were seated immediately. Chips and warm, delicious salsa were placed on the table, followed quickly by an excellent margarita. Ordered the mixed fajitas, which were more onions and peppers than meat. They were okay, but could have used a bit more flavor. Service was great though and we were in an a out with a full belly in just about an hour.

I came in alone and was seated in the furthest end of the restaurant at 6:30 on Monday night. I never understand why they take you to the furthest point in the restaurant when it is empty, but oh well. The staff was courteous, although not overly friendly or talkative. I ordered the Tia Maria’s Special Combo which came in three plates. I was surprised by how much food it was for around $ 10 bucks. There was rice and beans, two enchiladas, a huge stuffed poblano, a queso puff, a hard shell bowl taco and guacamole. I enjoyed the flavor of all of it, except the poblano had a red sauce that was too sweet for my taste. I enjoyed the frozen margarita for $ 3.25. One was enough and I couldn’t even finish all of it.(This is very rare for me). My two cents is that this place is fine, but does not beat any of the other local Mexican restaurants. I think I’ll stick to my other favorites. They were playing old Spanish music, which did not suit my taste, but I suppose it is appropriate for the style of restaurant.
