The Heights at 2121

I have lived here for almost a year now. The staff is very friendly and helpful when you are a potential renter. However… It took me less than a month living here to see the truth to all of the other reviewers’ comments. Before you lock yourself into a binding contract with this complex, please take into consideration my review below and other reviewers’ comments.
1) FLOODING!!! If it rains for more than a hour, make sure that you have rain boots to walk to your vehicle. The sidewalks flood quickly. Also, if your apartment is under a tree, don’t expect the maintenance crew to trim the limbs. I have had to purchase limb cutters to cut the thick oak limbs that have literally blocked me from walking up the staircase to my apartment. The office will assure you that they have a contractor coming out to do estimates on the trees, but after repeatedly asking and waiting for weeks I took care of the limbs myself.
2) PARKING!!! Is awful! Supposedly the staff has assigned specific parking spots to all of the residents, so that they do not have to pay for towing expenses. However, I have had people park in my designated spot numerous times. The staff is not quick to respond to this problem.
3) PETS! Yes, this apartment is very pet friendly and accepts all breeds. There is a $ 25 monthly pet rent for every pet and a non refundable pet deposit of $ 400. However, there are some residents that have multiple pets (3 or more animals in a one bedroom apartment) and do not pay the monthly pet rent fee. Wish I knew this before I signed my lease with my pet. Lastly, be prepared to run into multiple dogs without leashes. My dog (on a leash) and I have repeatedly been jumped on by disobedient, poorly trained dogs not on leashes.
4) PACKAGES! Since the staff doesn’t have a orderly system of keeping track of its residents’ packages, it takes a long time to find your delivered package or they inform you that your package is lost. Some of the staff is not as thorough as others in locating your package and the following week your previously lost package is miraculously found.
5) WATER! Get used to light brown to dark orange water if you decide to live here. Sometimes the water even has a distinct sewage smell to it. Make sure that you purchase a water filter for this reason. Don’t expect to relax in the bathtub after a tough workout … the water is disgusting. Also enjoy the inconsistent water temperature as you take your shower… ranges from freezing cold to smoldering hot without even adjusting the knobs.
6) FLOODED BATHROOM! Since the noisy ac unit is located in the bathroom ceiling, there is a high chance that you will come home to a flooded bathroom from the ac condenser.
7) APPLIANCES! Are extremely cheap. The stove elements are a joke! You have to continuously push the element in the fuse to keep it lit every time you move your pan on/​off the stove.
8) NOISE! Residents near me were extremely noisy between the hours of 12 — 3 in the morning during the weekdays. Informed the staff and nothing was done about the situation. You are also near a fire department and the train tracks.
9) NOTICES! Changes to the apartment’s policies or notices for immediate response from the residents are attached to your door no more than 2 days before your action is required. Literally the apartment gave me 2 day notice to get my insurance company to add them as a interested party on the insurance. This was a Wednesday afternoon and they expected it by Friday afternoon.
Yes it is definitely true that you pay for what you get. For $ 200 more, you can find a place that has laundry hookups in the apartments, a gym on site, and a more helpful staff. There is a reason why this complex keeps running specials on $ 500 off your first month’s rent. If you do visit this complex, ask other residents how they like this complex. Just in my building, there are 4 vacancies that have been vacant for over a month. Trust me. Save your money and GO somewhere else.

Please please don’t get an apartment with these guys they are horrible bunch of fucking snakes and don’t get fooled with their smiles at the beginning everything about them is horrible I ended up losing a lot of money for stupid fees that they charge bunch of different fees and at the end my window was broken they didn’t fix it for me for free but they fixed my neighbors for free just because they didn’t like me and I’m going to sue them for that just a horrible fucking place I wish I could give them a –5

This place stinks dog park has been under construction since we moved in. I have to play in the tennis courts. — Frankie the pug.

I’ve lived her for just over 8 months and the best part about the apartment community is definitely the people who live here. It’s very dog friendly and the neighbors are awesome. This about all the good I can say about this apartment complex.
The reason so many of the neighbors get along is because we can all talk about how this place does not give a s*** about their residents. I’ve decided to update The Heights at 2121 information brochure for you all.
Submitting a maintenance request? Enjoy the automated survey they send you 8 days after you submitted the request, when nothing happened. It’s always fun to see all of your issues are «completed» in their system, when no one ever even stopped by your apartment.
Receive a note in your mailbox telling you there’s a package in the office? Enjoy waiting for 20 minutes as they rummage through their unorganized closet looking for the package only for them to tell you that the mail man must have written the wrong apartment number on the notice and you don’t have a package.
Want to take a dip in the pool? I’m sure you may have a weird tan line as the water is only visible for about 1 inch.
Do you like adventure and taking risks? Leaving your apartment every single day can be dangerous enough as the wood rot on the awnings is so bad, the roof outside may collapse any day. Don’t worry though, they’ll send someone over to check it out.
While you’re touring the property, make sure to check out the amazing laundry facilities. They may look great from the outside, but rest assured that only 1 of the 3 laundry rooms are actually working at any given time. There are days when the machine will process your payment though! Only to return to realize the drier never moved your clothes 1 inch.
Most apartments are move in ready! When I moved in, all the floor boards were laid out in my living room ready for me to put on the walls myself. No worries though, they only asked me to give them two days to have someone in the apartment to put them up and paint them. Good luck getting your couch and bed into your apartment. They also made sure the entire apartment was covered with a fresh coat of dust. You don’t think you’re going to be able to use that bookshelf without cleaning it first, did you?
We have a gated community here! The best part about this is every weekend the entrance gate is stuck wide open to make it easier for everyone to get in, but don’t worry you still need a key card to get your car out!
We drive European style in this community — only on the left hand side of the road, unless you turn right, then you’re back to driving on the right hand side of the road. The confusion is almost always evident with the newbies to the community, it definitely makes life more exciting as cars creep towards a possible head on collision at 3mph. THE DANGER!
Do you have big plans to shower before work? They may just surprise you at 6pm letting you know that your water will be off all day tomorrow! This will most likely happen around once a month for their scheduled maintenance. (They like to remind you that there are people who actually do maintenance).
Worried about mold? Don’t! If you ceiling in the bathroom is flooding, they’ll actually show up to fix this! Once they finish (leaving your bathroom covered in dirt, water, particles of debris) they’ll throw your own towels on the floor to soak up the mess, and if you ask about mold in the ceiling «No it will be fine» is the answer you’re bound to get.
I should get back to work, but I hope you all enjoy your stay at The Heights at 2121.

DO NOT LIVE HERE. THIS IS THE MOST DISGUSTING APARTMENT COMPLEX EVER.
1. The place is infested with roaches. I’ve complained about them numerous times, and they would tell me they were in between pest control companies, and to wait a little longer. I paid for my own pest control 2x, but that did nothing. The roaches nest in cracks in the countertops/​walls/​baseboards/​etc. I kill 10 – 15 roaches EVERYDAY.
2. The manager is rude and unhelpful.
3. There is mold everywhere.
4. All my white clothes, towels, sheets, etc. are now a lovely shade of yellow. The water used in the laundry rooms and in the apartments is disgusting.
5. My new dishwasher pools dirty water at the bottom and makes my apartment smell like death.
6. They have lost 2 of my packages.
7. I now have to pay an extra month of rent because they cannot figure out how to answer a phone and/​or return my calls.
I truly LOATHE this place. Please do not live here. You will have a better experience literally anywhere else. Seriously… Do. Not. Live. Here.

I highly recommend against moving into these apartments. The water here is contaminated, rusty and disgusting. It’s not safe to drink and it’s gross to brush your teeth and bathe with. I tested for Coliform bacteria with a store-​bought test and the result was a strong positive. The apartment management — Steadfast Management Company — refuses to do anything. They blame the city of Houston, which is ridiculous. It’s clearly the old plumbing in this complex that is the problem. I even have to buy bottled water for my dogs who have had chronic diarrhea since moving in here. The vet suggested that contaminated water could be the cause and recommended bottled water. I’m trapped here until my lease is up in August. It’s a nightmare!

They lost my business before they even got it. «So why the 5 stars then?» Good question, but that’s only because I give everyone 5 stars but please note the following:
Went to see the apartment and they said they couldn’t show me the unit yet so I scheduled a time and date to come back and see it and was provided a quote.
I came back for my appointment and they rudely gave me a $ 100 higher quote from my previous visit two days prior and then they told me the apartment can’t be shown yet (yet they didn’t call me or anything so that I didn’t waste my time by coming out there for our scheduled appointment).
Also, while I was waiting to be assisted for a long period of time I couldn’t help but notice that other tenants were coming in to find that the staff had lost their packages (which was what other people had wrote too about their experience). I also noticed that this place is next to a fire department and a train track AKA it will be very noisy.
Summary: I personally sold myself into renting from them but their staff was so bad that they managed to convince me to not rent from them instead.

If you are thinking about moving here I strongly encourage you to reconsider. Green pool. Trash stacked on the curb for days (trash removal costs $ 25.00 a month. Moving it to the curb for days and just a few feet from my apartment is not acceptable. It attracts vermin!) Entering my apartment and locking my dogs in my bedroom without notifying me beforehand? Unacceptable! No security as promised. (I was told there was 24 hour security. I’ve never seen any security.) Two days at least but usually a week in response to any issue, including leaking ceilings, no hot water and ROACHES! Living with holes in my ceiling? Also unacceptable. But what really gets me is when I found a CHILD emptying my trashcan on behalf of management. Management changes every month! Don’t be fooled by reasonable rent — this complex has poor management, roaches, rare hot water, NO water pressure, inconsistent maintenance and is an overall smoke and mirrors scheme between getting you to sign your lease and actually being there to accommodate you one you have.

I rate these apartments 4 stars because although it is great, there are a few improvements still to be made.
The two guys that are always at the office and very helpful are Tony and Marco. Tony is always there with a friendly greeting and wants to help. As long as you let him know the problem, he will go out of his way to fix it. Marco is also always there to help and always seem very busy. There are some management and logistic changes, but this is because they are trying to make things better.
Update: Tony and Marco are now gone. Down to three stars.

I have never had so many problems at any place I’ve lived in ever! The roaches are horrible! I’ve complained countless times have bought those Raid roach things and still roaches everywhere. One fell on me while I was watching TV on my couch! The water has been turned off several times along with hot water; I was told to boil water on the stove and carry it up my stairs to dump in my tub like that was no big deal. Now the lady at the front desk is rude and tries talking to you like your a 3 year old. I’m sorry but I thought I was paying money to live in a decent apartment but I was wrong. Like another review suggested pay a little more and live someplace else because this place is not worth it. I hate when people are rude it’s your job if you don’t like it find another one. It’s not my fault that these issues are happening with the apartments and I’m sick of having to deal with crap not working in my apartment then having to deal with a shitty person in the leasing office. The only good thing is Tony, who always tries to be helpful and polite and the maintenance crew have always been polite and reassuring as well. But honestly don’t stay here, I’ve live in a few crappy places before but this one takes the cake.

WORST APTS EVER!!! I have never written a Unilocal review and this place has upset me to the limit. Constantly changing management!!!
1.To start they have ROACHES!!! No matter what pest control company they use.
2. My car was vandalized 2X while parked inside the gate
3. I complained about my car and if I can get a new spot and they kept jerkin me around saying «we can’t find the book» BS! I checked in on this for 3 months and nothing
4. My lease was ending so I CALLED and CALLED. Left voicemail after voicemail. I was supposed to do a final walk through when I was moving out and no one ever called me back
5. So today I randomly check my credit report and there is a new COLLECTIONS from this f$&kin place for $ 82!!! WTF whyyyyy! I can’t wait to go up there tomorrow to blow the fuck up! Mind you I’ve been moved out since July 15^th, it’s now October 13^th. Never got a call, email NOTHING about this $ 82!!! PISSED!
Thank GOD I only had to spend 6 months here. There was even someone checking out the place to rent one day while I was coming home and I told them DONT DO IT!!! They deserve ZERO starts

My AC has broken 3 times now in the past 4 months. My drawer broke and I’ve put in a service request twice now in the past month and still nobody has come to fix it. They never answer their phones or return my calls when I leave a message so I have to go in to talk to someone and frankly I’m not entirely sure what happens, whether it’s a lack of communication or just outright negligence but nobody has come to fix what is wrong. I’m getting a little fed up with this complex.

If only I could leave negative stars. My experience at the Heights at 2121 was atrocious to say the least. In less than two months from moving into my apartment, I was overrun with roaches. They insisted on having their pest control people do the work, yet the roaches were never eradicated. They knowingly continued to lease apartments that are filled with roaches. Management is utterly weak and incompetent, with turnover rampant. During the hottest months of the year, I was out of a/​c. In a 30 day period my a/​c broke 3 times, with management deciding to place a bandaid over a wound instead of breaking down and getting me a new a/​c unit. I would go days without getting a call back and was truly ignored. I was assured numerous concessions that they reneged on. I won’t spend anymore time reliving what was some of the most difficult months of my life, but know that even if you decide to forgo the advice left on here from other previous tenants, pay attention to this. People constantly have their tires slashed, and other damage done when parking not only on the street but within the complex. Gates to the apartment community are often left open or don’t close entirely leaving you susceptible to drug addicts and degenerates. All of this has happened with security on duty as well. Learn from our suffering, and avoid this place at all costs.

The place is ok if you don’t have any maintenance issues. My a/​c went out in the middle of summer and I called and left 5 messages. They never call you back. 3 days later I have to go in to get some attention and they send someone out the next day… I then had a pipe leak and made my carpet wet in my living room and I went in to the office and they had someone come immediately. They cut massive holes in the walls and ceiling looking for the leak. Couldn’t find it so they left. Came back 2 days later after leaving a huge mess and it more holes and made more of a mess. The next day I come home and the walls are now patched very poorly and the paint isn’t even the same color. There is paint droppings all over the floor and carpet too. I then turn my tv on and guess what… It was on a Spanish channel that I’ve never watched. What the hell!!! They told me they would call me every time someone would come into my apartment. I never received a single call. Almost a week later they still haven’t fixed the carpet, or the mess they left.
As the other reviews say, the management promises and promises but I’m paying way to much money for this shit hole of an apartment…

I lived here for only nine months and that was nine months too long. The office staff leaves much to be desired, the apartments themselves are cheaply made (even though they tried remodeling them), and they charge a ridiculous amount for water whether you use any or not! I moved everything out two months before my lease was up because I just couldn’t stand the place anymore, and I still got charged an insane amount for water those last two months! And when I inquired about the charges they gave me some random explanation about how the bills are behind a couple of months. I wouldn’t recommend living here to anyone!!!

I moved in about a month ago and have been really happy with the apartment so far. Everyone in the office has been very helpful and Tony especially goes out of his way to make sure that residents and future residents feel taken care of.
The parking situation isn’t the best for guests. I dislike that you need a card to get in and out of the gate. As previous reviewers mentioned it can be really inconvenient if you have guests leaving or are in a hurry but at this point, I’m used to it.
The location is really convenient and many cool bars, restaurants, etc. are within about a 10 – 15 minute drive.
Overall, if you’re looking for a place that isn’t crazy expensive but also feels like a home, I’d recommend it.

The new management here is completely unprofessional & very rude. One star because there’s «management» at all.

I’ve enjoyed my time at the Heights at 2121. The office has been nice to me, especially since the new management entered and the manager assisted me with getting incorrect fees taken off my charges. I feared I was going to owe much more than I should have, but they were very understanding and things actually went my way, really professional and polite.
The apartments themselves are pretty spacious, I wish I had a true balcony (as some units do), but what can you do about it. For the price, it’s not a bad deal, yes I have had better, but yes I have also had much worse. Appliances are pretty decent, and the overall layout is good. I’ve had neighbors who play music late at night, but the insulation seems to be pretty solid, it didn’t disturb me. Overall it was the quietest apartment complex I have lived in the past five years, I appreciated it.
While I was here I suffered from the classic «Russian roulette laundry machines,» and wasted a little money just trying to wash my clothes. I was happy to walk back in there in December and see they installed card swipers on all the laundry machines, big plus!
I personally have not had any experience with bugs in my apartment, but that’s not to say the other reviews are incorrect, I’ve been that one resident who had roaches in my apartment and nobody really heard me out, pretty defeating so I sympathize with those residents. But like I said, I have not had any issues with that here, look into the apartment before you agree to move-​in.
Cons: The parking situation is pretty bad. I’ve been lucky that I live alone, and so I have not had to worry about finding parking (each unit gets one space), but whenever I try to bring guests over, it is a nightmare. I don’t usually host things at my apartment like I have done in the past just because of this issue. There were also car break-​ins whenever I first moved in, if you parked near the pool or on the street, but this has seemed to have dropped off. Lastly, you have to swipe your card to get into the gate AND to get OUT. Pretty aggravating when you are in a rush to leave or have a guest who needs to leave, speaking from experience. Also, it is EUROPE inside the gated parking. You drive on the left side, it’s weird, almost got into a wreck or two because of it. But then again, what can the office do about it? They can only play with the cards they have been dealt.
I would personally like to take my own trash out and not pay the $ 25 valet trash service fee a month, I barely use it and it’s not that helpful considering it does not run on Fridays or Saturdays.
Overall, a nice place to live on a budget. Don’t expect royalty, you have to pay more to get that treatment. Also would not recommend for more than 2+ people. But for the rent they charge and the location it is in, this place is a pretty decent deal.

I’m torn with a rating here. If you don’t have to deal with the management and office staff, I would feel really confident rating these apartments a 4. The rent is reasonable, neighbors are quiet, and they are a great size.
Recently, the entire front office changed personnel. The very first day, they lost my package and I had to go back the next day to pick it up. Fine, small problem and I can get over it. There were several people in the office that day and it was busy — the new manager really flexed her customer service skills by raising her voice and telling everyone they needed to be patient with them. I was so taken aback by her rude approach, and I had no desire to speak with her.
Then, I worked with the new staff to get my lease renewal. That was a feat. The first time, the length was incorrect. The next time the dates were incorrect. It basically took 3 weeks to get it all done.
My most recent eventful experience was simply picking up a copy of a key. They called me a week prior saying it was ready (hooray!) I worked late all week and was unable to pick it up. I went in and only one person could give it to me. So I came back a couple of times and when the guy was finally there, he couldn’t find it. I, unfortunately, was unable to mask my frustration and that was my bad. The manger could hear me and she popped her head from her desk to ask a question and I’ve never felt so disregarded as a person and made to feel like it was my fault. She is rude and does not know how to handle situations in a professional manner. It seems like she tries to make others feel intimidated and wants to be in control. I realize that the management company has made this change to create a better place; however, I really feel like it definitely has not happened.

Been in this complex 5 yrs now and office staff all new that are worthless and really don’t care to get off their asses to help you and make you go to package room to locate your own boxes and then can’t find them.
