What a fun little pub! Hit this place up for happy hour the three day with some co-workers and loved it. Even my obscure super fruity lambic was on tap there. It’s small and very diveish, but it has some amazing character over the larger bars. Huge menu, and what looked like good apps. Their beer menu was enormous, and competitively priced. See y’all again real soon.

Came late-ish on a Friday night; there were people but it wasn’t packed, wasn’t too loud to talk, plenty of seating options and a nice atmosphere; good for dates or meeting friends, or even just having a beer alone. The beer list is quite extensive, which is a bit overwhelming; was pleased it wasn’t too IPA-heavy like everything we have out West. Ceilings in women’s restrooms quite low(but, most women are quite short, so probably okay). All in all, very solid. Will return next time I’m in town.

Great local place to grab a beer from their large selection of craft brews. Inside is small, but cozy and warm. Nice ambience. The outdoor patio is great and there is often live music. Dog friendly patio. Note, I have not dined here.

Beer selection is great! Lots of great seasonal varieties as well as local TX beers. However, one of the bartenders is pretentious know-it-all who speaks to customers with an incredibly condescending tone and has no business in the service industry. Proceed with caution…

Was in town for a conference and I ordered a Hefeweizen on tap. The server told me they were out. She suggested an alternative that was $ 7.50, but I was in the mood for a hef, and I said to her that«I don’t want to spend $ 7.50 on a beer.» So I ordered a Hefeweizen in a bottle. The server came back and said, «After all that, we don’t have a hef in a bottle, either.» The she said the bartender recommended a beer(whose name I hadn’t heard of and can’t recall now) so I said sure. It was a good beer, beer, but when I got my tab – for one beer – it was $ 12.50! After I explicitly told the server I didn’t want to pay $ 7.50 for a beer! The server offered to talk to the bartender to see if she could do a swap and charge me instead at the rate of the beer I originally ordered but which they were out of. She came back and explained that the bartender said that since I had finished the beer, she wouldn’t do that, and I had to pay. Unbelievable. Then I talked to the bartender myself, explained that I told the server that I didn’t want to pay $ 7.50 for a beer. «You told the server that,» she asked? «Yes, I said.» Then she told me «You had the menu. You could have looked at the price.» How’s that for service? I’ve never been treated so poorly at a bar. They weren’t busy – we were the only ones in The Ginger Man. And that says it right there.

The Ginger Man knows that the key to success is to do one thing and do it well. The thing they do well is beer. The menu features a huge selection of beer from around the world and many local craft beers. I was a little disappointed with the huge selection of IPA which I am not a fan of, but found several good maltier beers available. The service was a little pretentious and seemed a bit over worked with the crowd, but did know the menu very well. The Oktoberfest selection was nice and vast which was great. It’s great when a bar has a good variety of seasonals. The food menu was fairly small but looked decent. Please don’t come here and order a Blue Moon. It embarrasses us all.

Fabulous little bar with hundreds of beers on offer. Nice outside patio area to enjoy the sunshine. I ordered a Spatan and a Stout which were both served at the perfect temperature and pour. And at $ 6 each, pretty good value. The bartender is very knowledgable and helped describe the beer selections. Will definitely be back for more to sample.

You know. There are days where I wish I wasn’t Asian. You know. Where my face doesn’t look like a freaking tomato. And where I get real tipsy after 2 beers. And last night was one of those days. Damn. I’ve never noticed this place until I actually went. Whatdya know. They have a great selection of craft beers on tap. I absolutely love craft beer, if it weren’t for my Asian glow, I’d sample every craft beer they have on tap. Unfortunately, I can only settle for ONEAND A FREAKINGHALF. WHATISTHIS. WHAT R THOSE. SAD. SAD. SAD. I do appreciate a bar that sells lambics. In fact, I’m actually a huge fan of Belgium beers. So I got myself a Peach Lambic. My second beer was the Yellow Rose. I feel guilty for always not finishing my beer. But BRUH. I was feeling it. Barely drank half. Was crying on the inside. The night I came was when they had a guy singing with his guitar. Nice. Beer and a show.

This is a great spot for a couple of beers. I went on a Monday night for a first date and I loved how intimate it was. Probably having to do with it being a Monday night and not being crowded. The beers were pretty pricy but no matter. Now, the only thing that killed this review from being 5 stars were that the bathrooms were TINY. I’m 5’2 and felt like a GIANT in there. It didn’t really seem that clean either, that or it was just older.

Good beer, friendly staff, and genuine atmosphere make this one if my favorite bars in the area. The selection of beers is quite broad but can also get to be quite expensive when you start looking at some of the more exotic beers. Definitely worth checking out though!

The Gingerman is probably one of my favorite bars especially in the Rice Village area! Although most of the beer selection is pricy per glass or bottle, I still enjoy frequenting here because the staff and the environment are super chill and makes this place good for hanging out with friends. Heck, the bouncer even lets me walk in with my Oh My Gogi fries(Yep, the awesome food truck is nearby too)! Even when crowded, this place isn’t too loud so you don’t have to yell just to talk. Highly recommended as a great Rice Village bar as a single destination or a barhopping stop!

Good, reliable spot for a casual drink. Some seating in the front, with the fans and umbrellas in the back the outdoor seating there tends to be cooler. Packed when Rice is in session, nice and diverse beer list inclusive of what’s on tap. Servers can be hit or miss with respect to how helpful they are in navigating the selection.

I’ve been going to the Ginger Man for years, and it is one of my favorite places in Houston. There are so many beers from all over the world. The patio is a great place to have good conversation, and all the staff is great. The St. Arnold Elissa on cask is always amazing!

This is a cool hang out bar. It reminds me of the college bars in Ann Arbor, Mi. I love the fact that I told the bartender to give me the best IPA he had and he walked away and brought one back. My friends had the spinach dip and the cheese platter and they loved them both. I will probably try that too next time. This is a good bar to just meet up with friends for a beer or two.

There is so many things right with this place, I don’t know where to begin. I suppose I will start with beer, which is always the best place to start. Apparently there are over 100 draft beers making this a bit like the United Nations of beer. An impressive selection of beers, both regionally and globally with Argentinian bottled Quilmes to Belgium Duvel along with Newcastle Brown and Russian Baltika. From the outside, it is disguised like a Rice Village house, surrounded by large shade-bearing foliage and a generous outside backyard/patio in the back with heaters for those chilly nights. And when you step inside, you are warmed by a deep wood appearance and a rich hoppy smell. The atmosphere is relaxed and took me back to England the moment I stepped in. I didn’t know that a place to close to home could be so close to home! The bartender seemed to know his way around the bar and I had a Czech Staropramen followed by England’s Newcastle Brown Ale. The hot dog was great as well and filled the expanse between pints. The Ginger Man seems to attracted a lot of different kinds of people, many in their late 20’s and early 30’s, appearing to be medical students or Rice University intellectual-types. Any pub with its own T-shirt implies a large following, with live music every Thursday and events such as Chocolate and Beer pairings tasting and community-oriented One-Pot Cook-offs. A fantastic venue with so much to offer makes this my new favorite.

Are you a nurse in the Med center? Did you just have a rough shift? Well if you’re looking for a refreshing adult beverage after work to cut the edge The Ginger Man is just the place for you! Great place to sit with friends/coworkers to enjoy a beer and converse. This place has a great patio with lots of seating and has a very comfortable and casual atmosphere. Service is friendly and bartenders are attentive. No dress code so you can come in your scrubs…

One of my regular go to happy hours after work now. Best thing about this place? The wednesday night pint nights! Starting at 6pm, buy their special pint night beer and get the glass for free. I’d go there every week for the glass if I could! I’ve enjoyed most of the beers I’ve had there, with the Saint Arnold’s Oktoberfest being one of my favorites. They’ve also got some good beer floats if you want to try. The atmosphere at this place is really chill. The indoor seating is rather limited, but there’s a front porch and back patio area with generally enough seating for the large crowd that comes on a weekly basis. So why the three stars? While they’ve got a great pint night, I’m not a huge fan of their bar food. Everything on the menu sounds good, but whenever it comes out, I’m rather underwhelmed. $ 9 for a small, mediocre sandwich? Pass. I’m certainly going to keep coming out, but I probably won’t be eating there again anytime soon.

I came here for the first time yesterday afternoon around 5PM. I got lucky and got parking in the front — otherwise, I can’t imagine finding parking. Happy hour was $ 1 off pints. They have a pretty good selection of drinks. I’d say Saucer has a larger selection. 4 stars for their selection. I tried the Jalapeño and Cheddar dog — It’s okay for 6 bucks. The pretzel bun was kinda hard and chewy and the dog just mediocre. I wouldn’t order it again. I’d give it a 2 – 3 stars. The bartender seemed okay — she didn’t overwhelm me with friendliness nor did she give me a reason to dislike her. She made sure my glass wasn’t empty. I’d say the service is a 4 stars. Overall, my experience was just Okay. I can’t write home about this place nor do I have anything bad to say. If it was conveniently located, I’d probably come back. It’s not a bad place to just hang out. It’s pretty small, so good luck finding seating.

Ginger Man has a broad and deep beer selection: drafts, casks, Belgium, Texas, whatever you like. The vibe is extra-chill, bartenders friendly, and when the weather is good there is of course a garden. Parking is a pain in Rice Village, but if you’re really pressed there’s always the $ 1 an hour metered spots up near the Hanover building. Not a good place to watch a game, by the way. The TVs are tiny. This is for relaxed beer sipping.
