Is not just water with salt like other restaurants or cumin taste Hahahaha others put on. Everything … We love every most of the menu and we just wish they had handmade fresh tortillas … Waiters are courteous and friendly.

Not my favorite tacos but they have great green sauce! More of a onion kinda girl instead of all the tomatoes and wet lettuce! Ehh don’t care for them!

Charro! Oh, how I love your sexy Chicken Tortilla Soup(That I COMPLETELY recommend you try at least once in your life… it is AMAZING.) It can get skimpy on the chicken side though. which I find annoying and cheap… but I can’t deny how sexy it is. As for the enchiladas, I go chicken all the way. I love their reckless idea of how much cheese to put on these babies, and they shower mines in cheese always. Cheesy, saucy, chickeny goodness. However, I’m not 100% a fan of their enchilada sauce. I prefer something darker, thicker, and more spiced… but that doesn’t stop them from being near the top of my yummy list. The only reason I docked a star… is because 1. the restaurant can get pretty cramped and loud because it is a smaller and more compact place, and 2. I absolutely loathe their chile. I cannot for the life of me like it. Either of the chiles. I hate them both lol… they…the orange one is too spicy without much flavor, and the red one has a weird burned smokiness to it… that is more of a singed burn that a nice flavorful burn. Why is that worth a star? I love my chile and chips… and the lack of a lighter more flavorful sauce means I don’t get much enjoyment from my chips ;-;. That aside, this place is wonderful, and is one of my top 3 fav Mexican restaurants in my area :)! Seriously though, I recommend that Chicken Tortilla Soup, especially when it’s cold outside, or you have a cold: D

Went here during lunch hour and it was moderately busy. The interior is decorated nicely and the staff are all very friendly. We are not Hispanic but were speaking in Spanish a little and they went along with it. They spoke in Spanish then would translate to English. I thought that was pretty cool. We ordered the burrito with cheese all over it, tortas with beef fajita, and taquitos. I absolutely loved the tortas. It’s like a huge sandwich and it was super cheap! It was so good. I also loved the pickled veggies they brought over with the chips. The other dishes were okay. I would definitely come back for the tortas.

My family and I have been eating breakfast there since 1996 same owners and staff we are regulars there. The only thing I would recommend is a remodel of the restaurant. It would bring more customers in and totally new environment, plastic table covers and cheap chairs wouldn’t bring high rollers there to spend money. They need to stand out more from the rest of the other restaurants to be more successful.

Closer to 4 ½ stars. I agree with another poster that the barbacoa is fatty.(but perhaps it’s supposed to be *shrug*) Been coming here for years, being this place is about 2 blocks from my house. Same people have been there for many years. This is not Tex-Mex! If you want Tex-Mex, you’ll probably be disappointed. The street tacos are very good, I always get the lengua. The chile con queso is good. I like the flautas, bf likes the pork chop plate. My son likes their burritos and tortas. Oh, and their Mexican breakfast is very good. It’s a great place to sit back, have a few tacos and a beer. Love the authentic-ness of it. Once upon a time the waitresses didn’t speak any English, but they’ve mostly gotten over that. They appreciate our pathetic attempts at Spanish, too. :)

I’ve been here a few times and I really do enjoy eating at taquerias over full blown restaurants sometimes. With that said, there are better taquerias in houston. I’ve given their barbacoa tacos two chances and been dissappointed both times. They were just too fatty(almost slimy) and that’s a turn off. Their fajita tacos have ranged from OMG to decent. The service was adequate, but I don’t go to taquerias for steak-house service, so no big deal. Over-all, I wouldn’t avoid El Charro, but don’t pass up another taqueria on the way there.

I went there for lunch last week and was not impressed. The salsa was greasy and weak. The beef enchiladas and beef stew were not good. The beans and rice were average. The place seemed clean. I would not go back.

Of the two El Charro I’ve tried, this one is my least favorite. Salsa too spicy, food is unimpressive, no free cheese dip, some burnt chips… Sometimes it’s the little trivial things that make a difference especially in a low end kinda place.
