This place is seriously over priced for what you get. Given there were some great items on the menu — steak is obviously supposed to be the forefront of their offerings, and I feel this place falls quite flat and the quality is good — but not great. The morcilla was so so, the pulpo(octopus) was fantastic, the fried yucca was some of the best I’ve had in town, the calamari was ok, but the steak? — honestly I have bought better cuts at HEB and grilled them better myself. We had a tomahawk ribeye, which is essentially just a giant ribeye, and we shared that between a few of us. There was nothing unique or special about the preparation or treatment of this cut. It was just a steak, it literally needed salt — thats about it. We also had a parillada(which is several types of grilled meats — including sweet breads), this was also fairly mediocre. The prices here are VERY high in my opinion for the quality of meat. You’d be better off going to Churrascos and getting something very similar for a lot less. We are all well versed in south american and spanish quisine, and we all agreed that this place was good — but not close to what the bill came out to be. The service was just ok, gratuity was already included(we were 7, so I guess thats standard). But the place was empty and we did find ourselves waiting a bit more than expected. It felt like the staff had a chip on their shoulder. The markup on wine was bout 3X+, which we felt excessive as well. In the end what matters is how you walk out that door, and we all felt underwhelmed and hoping for more. Unfortunately this will be our last time there.

I was there for happy hour and highly disappointed. The $ 6 sangria was watered down and tiny. The $ 6 glass of wine would be a better bet. Additionally, my friend had the tomatoes caprese for $ 13. What is called authentic on the menu was served with cheap Roma tomatoes. My arugula salad for $ 9 was just ok. I’m not convinced and hesitant to return. On the other hand, young Argentinean bartender was nice and attentive.

Ceviche was a a bit disappointing. Had really high expectations based on Unilocal review. Great Argentinian and Chilean wines. Meats are pretty good.

I used to love their beef de lomo… last time I went it wasn’t good… it was super dry and over cooked… but the ceviche was good and costumer service was good too

Impeccable service. Excellent food. It is a must for meat lovers. If you are lucky, you may see tango dancers dancing their way between table. I thoroughly enjoy eating at this place.

Okay this is going to be my first bad review. Service was HORRIBLE!!! Food was delicious but overly expensive for the amount you receive. And no matter what kind of service you get they automatically take 20% gratuity out of your bill and we were a table of three. Which I don’t think is right. The amount of food is very very small. I do not recommend this place at all.

Terrible service and steak. Tequila selection VERY limited. Patron Don Julio Something else Don Julio Ordered Medium and I even stated«Just a bit of pink.» So there would be no question. My steak was rare on the blue rare side. Asked the waitress to please cook my steak. She brought a grill to the table with charcoal so I could cook my steak at the table. I was down for that but it didn’t cook before the stove went cool. It didn’t really get to medium rare and It never got to medium. Server asked if I wanted a to go box. I didn’t for several reasons. I told her the steak was not good and was cold before it fully cooked. She apologized and nodded and went to bring the bill. Charged full price. $ 98 for steak, potatoes and asparagus that was supposed to be grilled but were hard and crunchy. Potatoes were awesome. $ 133 for two people.

Nice atmosphere but really expensive for what you get. The cut of meat I had wasn’t anything special served with a few spears of asparagus and a scoop of potato. I could have bought better produce from Giant and cooked it just as well. The best part of the meal was the freshly made potato crisps they served with the bread. The Key Lime pie was the smallest I’ve seen in the USA but it tasted good. But then I really like Key Lime Pie.

My girlfriends and I stopped by here for a quick light lunch… ordered a couple of items and wished we were here forever. It’s somewhat hidden near the galleria. ITSHOULDN’T BE! I’m an out of Towner so I wouldn’t have found this if it wasn’t near our hotel. I’m so glad we stopped by. The service was PHENOMENAL. We were here at lunch and their service was 5 star quality! Everything we ordered was light, full of flavor and great! It made all 7 different girls happy so that’s a huge plus!

My partner and I had kept Malbec and Tango on our radar for quite some time. We were thrilled with this restaurant the moment we walked in. I had made a reservation only a few days before Valentine’s Day with no issues. Our show let our earlier than we expected and even though we were half an hour earlier than our reservation they were able to get us in right away. Did I mention it was Valentine’s Day? The décor is beautiful, the wine list was spectacular, the staff was divine, and in the words of my boyfriend it was«the best meal he’s ever had.» The location is convenient, there’s plenty of parking, we couldn’t ask for anything better. We will definitely be back and we can’t wait!

Here is what I enjoyed about Tango and Malbec: 1. Good drink. I had a mango drink during happy hour. Not too sweet, strong, complex flavors, good price at $ 6 2. Complimentary bread basket w 3 types of bread and house made thin potato chips — delicious 3. Chimichurri — made w fresh, not dried, herbs and a little tangy. 4. Service was prompt and attentive, without hovering. 5. Crepes w dulce de leche were on point. What disappointed was the main course. Milanesa. An Argentine classic, and the reason I came here. My issues with it: 1. The cut of meat. It looked like it was just a thin cut of beef and not pounded out thin. 2. Tough. Especially the edges. I feared for my teeth as the edges were like chewing tree bark. Again, if it had been pounded it would have tenderized it. 3. Breading. Too thickly breaded and it was separating from the meat. I would have happily paid the $ 20 if it had been a good milanesa. Moral of the story — come for drinks and dessert.

I came here for a business lunch and it’s really good. The lunch menu has an appetizer, entre and a dessert trio. It’s more than enough food and the price is pretty good($ 22). I had the picañha as my entre and one of my colleagues had the dinner portion of it and I have to say it’s not that much bigger than what I got. We also tried the beef empanadas and they were very good. We had an event in one of the private rooms around Christmas and the service and food were excellent as well.

So I love Argentina and Uruguay. Been there on a few occasions. The Bife de Lomo Uruguayo at Tango Y Malbec is the best steak I have had in the US. It reminds me so much of the food I had in Montevideo. It has an awesome smoky flavor and is so tender, it melts in your mouth. This restaurant also has the best Malbec selection I’ve seen at a restaurant outside of Buenos Aires. On this trip we had the Luca Malbec and it was absolutely fantastic. It was so good that my Argentine friend is bring me a bottle from BA in a couple weeks. The only reason I didn’t give this a five star is that some of the sides and starters were just ok and have room for improvement. Tango Y Malbec is a must stop on each trip to Houston for me.

I’ve been here a few times for rehearsal dinners, date night, happy hour. I’ve had a pleasant experience every time. Food is great, cocktails are great, staff is friendly. Love the tango dancing going on in the middle of the dining area. They have great happy hour specials until 7 p.m. No complaints here, great choice to come if you want a refreshing change of scene from most South American restaurants in Houston.

Probably had the most romantic dinner with my BFF! We came here wanting to try something completely different, delicious, and of course some good ol’ steak so Tango and Malbec was the place for us! For starters, we ordered our cokes and veal sweetbread which was absolutely delicious. After we finally decided on what to order for dinner I ordered NY steak and my BFF last minute switched to their salmon and I must say both were delicious. The service was amazing, our server was awesome at recommending the appetizer and made suggestions for wine(however we both still have not appreciated the taste of wine and we are both coca-colaholic buddies). The ambiance was very romantic with a candlelight dinner, made me regret not coming here before with my significant other but over all I loved the restaurant. I keep reading about the lollipop lamb chops and eager to try them next time.

I’ve heard wonderful wonderful things about Tango & Malbec, and for trying it for the first time I thought it was great. I didn’t leave overwhelmed by how good it was but I very much enjoyed my meal. Given I went for Houston Restaurant Week my menu options were limited but very good. I started with the Messy Salad, which was good. The dressing was light which I appreciated but really not much to the salad. The bread that was set out at the beginning of the meal, I thought was AMAZING though. Next I got the Bife de Chorizo Relleno which was NY Strip Steaks with peppers and a chimichurri sauce and a side of mashed potatoes. I thought the flavor was great for the steak and peppers, and the mashed potatoes had a good mix of flavors in there as well. For dessert I got the Mango Sorbet which was a great addition to the meal and just a small amount to curb my sweet craving. At the end of the day, they wait service was great. My drink was always full and they were very attentive. I think going back a second time and choosing something off the full menu would help me decide if I think this place is something special.

Went during Houston Restaurant Week this year for brunch. The spinach empanada and the sauce it came with was simply delicious. I got the rainbow trout, while all my friends got the steak. Going to a steak restaurant and getting something other than steak, it is expected that the entrée will be just ok, which is expected. I enjoyed this dish though it is not something I would want to go back for. The coconut was also very good, fresh and not too sweet. Service and atmosphere were good. For brunch, it was a good choice.

Beautiful, cozy South American steakhouse. Tucked away in a strip mall near the Galleria in Houston. Surprisingly upscale for being a block or so off the beaten path. It took a bit of effort to get the hostess to give me a table for one off to the side instead of in the middle of the dining area. Who puts 2-top tables out in the middle? I was eventually seated in dark, quiet corner in the bar area. Perfect for a quiet dinner. I chose a glass of Argentinian Malbec from the ample(but not overwhelming) wine menu. There were at least 6 – 8 nice Argentinian Malbecs to choose from(which is specifically what I was hoping to find). I paired this with a 12oz Dry Aged New York Strip Steak, which came out perfectly cooked and superbly seasoned. It was accompanied by a very small portion of mashed potatoes and 3 asparagus spears, but that’s okay because the steak was the star. Service was very attentive and speedy without feeling rushed. If you’re looking for a small but upscale steakhouse that is genuinely focused on perfecting the steak without the crowds or pomp of something like the nearby Del Frisco Double Eagle, Tango & Malec is a great choice.
