CLOSEDNOW. We LOVED this place. Gringa and pirate tacos were the bomb and the charro beans are the best I’ve ever had. Speed by for lunch yesterday and found out it was their LASTDAY and it Is TURNINGINTO A TAQUERIAARRANDAS(which I’ve never been impressed by) They said there is another location on Longpoint and Wirt owned by the same guy.

The brisket tacos with avocado are smooth and tasty. I am no taco expert but I would say this is the best tacos I had.

The free charro beans are the best! Not too spicy for a guerro like me. The campechana tacos are the best: Fajita meat, avocado, and cheese. The meat is not greasy and each taco is stuffed full of meat for $ 2.87.

Food was good; service poor. Server apparently spoke no English, didn’t know words like«ice.» She checked us out at the cash register and didn’t know how to make change. I assume that the register told her how much but the coins, 0.73, was not possible so she rounded it down. I didn’t say anything. She and apparent manager were very friendly.

They just expanded the place, it looks way better than it use to. Before there was only 3 booths and like 2 tables. I like their tacos with pineapple and melted cheese, the best !

Amazing taco truck quality food but in an actual building and with a well stocked bar. The building and feel during the slow time while you’re sober is kinda depressing and run down, and they have the most watery salsa ever(though it’s still yummy and served hot) but it really has an authentic feel and tvs to watch sports and a giant stage for bands. I recommend trying it.

I got a To-Go order; so I don’t know how the service is but as far as food goes, I’m a fan. I had the Tacos El Trampo and they were good. I would say its one of the best tacos I had. It’s in a good location and this place would be a great place to get something quick or a late night dinner.

We landed here drunkenly at 2am after a few hours of listening to power ballads at Spotlight Karaōke across the street. We quickly put in a to go order for a few tacos. Despite being about to close, the staff insisted that if we wanted to sit, they would set us up for it. Fast forward to delicious tacos in my face at home. Bottom Line: I’ll be back for delicious tacos & accommodating staff.

Before Houston, I lived in South Texas for 8 years and I can tell you this is one of the best Mexican food places I have ever been. Very authentic and their trompo is delicious and so many meals come with sliced avocado. I would give this place 4.5 stars if I could only because they could develop a drink menu. They do have a full bar though. I definitely recommend this place if you live in the uptown area.

The food was quite delicious. The meat was very cleaned with no fat trimmings at all. This is authentic Mexican and reasonably price for the area. The service not so great. They need more servers for the Friday crowd perhaps. The décor was also nice. My favorite pieces being the pallet benches.

Time for an update… New location is right next door to the old location. The new spot is bigger and better. There’s even a full bar! The old spot was small and would get very crowded at lunch time. Sometimes people would leave because there was no place to sit. Well, the new location is totally upgraded. There’s plenty of seating. There’s table seating as well as booth seats too. The bar area also have table seating. There’s a couple of TV’s in the booth area so you don’t have to worry about missing the latest game. Outside in the front, there’s a couple of tables and a lounge area just in case the weather is nice and you’d like to take in some sun. The restaurant currently plays Mexican music through the PA system, but it’s really nice music like smooth grooves. This location has a stage, so there may be a live band in the near future. The food is still the same high quality food they’ve always served. Our food came out fast, hot and delicious! This will continue to my taco spot, and with the addition of space and a full bar, I will definitely be back very soon.

After trying other stuff, like the Tort w/gringa meat, the breakfast, this place is hands down the best Taqueria food I have ever enjoyed in my life! Couldn’t get any better.

I love this place. My boyfriend stumbled here by accident and since then this place has made me love love mexican food. Every time I keep craving their burritos! Their red charro beans that comes with all the plates(main item) is just amazing. I also love the ambience because its a small cozy restaurant with amazing food. Like their moto says ‘dont eat cravings, eat tacos’(idk the literal translation of what it is in spanish but that’s what I understood lol) dont just suppress your cravings for amazing tacos, come and eat here!!! :D Definitely a must try place :)

I hope to be able to update my rating to higher. I had a caldo Tlalpenio and it was very salty. Furthermore, customer service was slow. It took a while to receive my bill after I asked for it. The caldo was listed as $ 5 on the menu yet I was charged $ 6. The waitress told me that prices had gone up but the menus hadn’t been updated yet. She did adjust the charge. Increasing the price of the soup to $ 6 from $ 5 is a bit excessive. The soup is served with three homemade corn tortillas. I love their salsa and it’s not spicy at all. I had had the Tlalpenio soup at the Spring Branch location and it was delicious. I hope they overdid it with the salt just this time and it’s not the norm.

To start off with the reason I come here so often is due to the first and foremost delicious tacos. There is no denying that this place has become known for the great tasting meat combined with their sides. I have had a variety of their tacos and never disappointed. The hospitality here is always on point. Very nice and accommodating waiters/waitresses. Always ready to make your dinning experience a great one. You’ll have to have your taste buds be the judge of my review but I am sure you’ll agree with me. I also tried the menudo in which I have had the best in town. Who might that be? My Mother’s ofcourse… lol… I wasn’t too impressed with it here but it wasn’t bad either. I would rate it to be good but not great. You can also order a selection of beers :), not too sure about other drinks. They do have a couple of TV’s inside for sports coverage or your favorite soap opera in spanish. hahahaha… Hope you enjoy this small casual place just as much as I have. Try it you’ll see!

For my first time here, I will say I was pleasantly pleased! The service was fast and friendly! I are the Especiales de Trompo and they were delicious! You get five small tacos on corn tortillas! That’s more than enough! I could only eat four and I was stuffed! The seasoning is just right! I also recommend their orchata or rice milk drink! I am very picky about this drink and have only found one other place that flavors it just right for me… But now make it two! I drank it up! Lol So for my first time here! I give it 4 stars! And a big plus, they stay open late! So when you have the late night munchis and don’t want fast food! Here’s your place!

Tacos del Julio is a solid authentic Mexican spot, but definitely one of those places that you need to know what to order or else you’ll think it’s no good. I personally only come here for the tacos de trompo(which I believe is just another name for tacos al pastor). It’s the highlight here. I think the flautas are also pretty good and shared an enchilada once and thought it was passable, but I didn’t really like much else that I tried. So yeah, 4* for the tacos al pastor and I basically don’t bother with anything else. BTW, they say they close at 2am but I’ve seen them start shutting stuff down 10 – 15 mins before then, so don’t arrive too close to closing or risk being disappointed. Also, most everyone here speaks basically no English, so bring your Spanish with you. :)

Comida rica y autentica lastima que los precios han aumentado demasiado. Una orden de tacos de trompo sencillos salen casi a $ 9. Se la bañan! Todavia fueran tacos tamaño regular pero se esta hablando de tacos peque de dos bocados!

Sometimes I feel awkward walking in here because I don’t know if I should seat myself or wait until someone seats me. But I usually just seat myself and someone brings the menu. I usually always order the same thing. I don’t remember what it’s called but it has pineapples and onions and avocado on it and it’s perfect.
