I wandered into Style Cycle yesterday, not knowing what it was. When I saw what looked to me like a nice selection of vintage clothing and housewares, I thought it might be one of those trendy vintage stores. …the type where they go out buying up nice vintage stuff from estate sales and the like and resell them at a higher price. So I strolled up to the man at the cash register and asked if they buy vintage clothing from people to resell, in my naïveté not knowing how that process works. The man responded with something akin to, «No. But we understand that some people don’t like helping homeless pets, wounded veterans, and poor children with their donations of old clothing and stuff.» At that point, I gathered that the store’s purpose is selling donated items and then donating some of their profits to charity organizations. Correct? But I had no interest in letting someone try to make me feel guilty and wasting my energy. So I said okay, grinned, and walked out. To be transparent, I donated $ 1,500, which was matched by my employer(so $ 3,000), to a hospice center this year. …$ 2,000($ 4,000) last year. I regularly donate gently used clothing and items to Goodwill and clothing recycling organizations. I donate my time and money to Adopt-a-family Christmas with my coworkers. This year I bought a ¾ size guitar for a 6 year old boy(what he asked Santa), wrapped, and delivered a big load of gifts to the family’s house. I donated money to help a «tent city» of homeless people with food and warm clothing. And I worked several hours sorting toys for the Houston Fire Department’s Christmas toy drive. The guy working at Style Cycle was an over-aged hipster with a mustache and an overly-exaggerated, forced southern accent. His snarky, elitist judgment was unwarranted and unnecessary, and only served to make himself look petty and foolish. I gave an extra star because the shop’s mission seems to have good intentions. But I could have done without the negative, judgmental staff.

Yes yes yes. Small, clean, well-organized store. Great selections at even better prices. Right next door to Boomtown Coffee so grab a drink and head on over to Style Cycle and peruse some fun vintage items!

Nice resaie shop in the Heights with the two Allison’s at the ready to help you make the great find! They have some nice used clothes and coats and a helpful, enthusiastic staff. Unlike some resale shops, this is clean, well organized, but no frills. I like that they have a Wish List one can sign up for items they are hoping to find. One of the two Allisons will call you if they get something in you have requested! They also sell on Ebay and Etsy so if, like me, you don’t live nearby, you can still enjoy shopping here and saving money on their well-priced goods.

This place has some great stuff! I was drawn in from the street by the glassware. I am a sucker for cute, vintage glassware. I then noticed the multitude of clothing, then as I was drawn to the back I noticed… bridesmaid dresses!!! There were at least 3 racks full of dresses. There were even full sets of them, meaning a group of girls could come in a get a few that match. There were pastel yellow lace prairie girl dresses, pink taffeta 80s dresses, portrait collars galore… so many to choose from. It was overwhelming. My only complaint is that they were $ 60. I think $ 40 would be more appropriate, as I won’t pay $ 60 for a taffeta mess for Halloween or a costume party, etc. Under $ 50 is kind of my cut off. That being said, I found a dress that had been REstyled. It’s amazing. It’s a light pink, drop waist, 80s style dress that has then been tie dyed. It’s has a few circle bursts of tie dye placed around the dress and it has a large double ruffle skirt that is quite a site… Molly Ringwald watch out! I have a gala to go to in January that is going to be 80s themed so I could not pass up this fabulous find! It was $ 45(under my $ 50 cut off for costume purchases) so I bought it without question. I cannot wait to wear it!

This place is nothing short of quaint, cute, and wonderful! Bring your items in, they sell it for you — you get 50% of whatever they sell it for. All the items are just wonderfully unique and what I deem«shabby chic» and maybe«shabby chic modern?» for some of the housewares. I love how everything is neatly organized, seems clean, and the people running the biz are nice and courteous. If you’re tired of some of the other places givin you pennies for your precious items that you just no longer have room for… bring them here. Someone will love them even more. I promise.
