Don’t ever go there even if they offer you free service. Had the worst experience ever. Most scary place. No respect for customers, looked like they have bouncers hiding inside. I was so scared during my hair cut. Better to spend few more bucks instead of going to this place. Doesn’t even deserve 1 star.

False advertising! My haircut was $ 4, not $ 3.99! But really though, this barbershop is really good for the price. It’s operated by a lot of Vietnamese barbers and there will be Vietnamese music playing over the intercom. If you have no problems with that, then you’ll should give this place a shot. About 50% of the time I get a haircut here, the barber may put mousse in my hair and give me a 5 second neck massage. It’s a little weird, but I guess it’s just part of the culture. Don’t let it freak you out. Oh, CASHONLY.

i went to this place once because my friend was in desperate need of a hair cut. we got in and the place was very busy and it did not look hygienic, so we left and never look back pros: price cons: luck of hygiene, front desk barely speak English, location is not very favorable.

I needed a trim and thought what could be better than getting a trim that only cost $ 4! I had mentally prepared myself that it was an ultra low cost haircut and walked in. Seriously, don’t expect any frills coming here — it’s a $ 4 haircut. I made eye contact with one of the ladies, and she beckoned me to sit in her chair. I tell her my usual, and she proceeds to trim away. The lady only used shears, plain scissors, and a spritz of water for my entire cut. «Not too bad; this is going well,» I thought. When she finished, I asked if she could trim a little bit off my forehead, showing how long on my hair I wanted cut. She obliged. BYCUTTINGOFFWAYMORETHAN I ASKEDFOR!!! At that point, I was at a loss and simply succumbed to her happily trimming away to make sure things were even — which, by the way, didn’t happen, since the right side of my head has hair longer than the left now. Welp. Despite that tragic incident, I actually probably would come back to get a trim(ANDSPECIFY«TRIM»), simply because you really can’t beat the value. This place is amazing if you have a really low-maintenance hairstyle; if you happen to even have a preference on how your hair should be styled, just find a proper stylist and fess up to paying a little extra.

Fast and inexpensive haircut. Make no mistake, this is a blue collar place and not clean enough. If you are wearing a tshirt, great. If you show up with a formal shirt, everyone will look at you wondering which planet you came from.

Hip? Pretty? Nope. What you will get here is a good, quick hair cut at an unbeatable price. If you’re looking for all the bells and whistles and need to feel cool while you get a haircut, though, this is not the place for you.

I’m a SWF wih a small boy and I’ve been going here for years. My hair has always been long so it’s kind of hard to mess up. I’ve had to go home and clean up a few stragglers that they’ve missed, but that’s okay. It is best to go in with a picture of what you want since their English is not good. My son and I both get a descent hair cut for $ 10 and a tip. Not bad! This is why I give them 5 stars.

I gave the Vietnamese man my picture ID and told him to follow it. He took my words literally and didn’t cut the back. I’m typing this review with a mullet. During the haircut, I watched him barely cut any hair. Then he brought out the mirror and said he was done. I asked him to cut it shorter and he started yelling in Vietnamese-accented English. He cut it a little shorter, but I was fed up and had to leave. On the drive home I noticed I had a mullet and a lot of hair bits on my forehead. He didn’t even bother to wipe them off. The haircut is $ 4.00 because it’s actually only half a haircut.

First off, for $ 3.99 per haircut, are you expecting Toni & Guy? No champagne, no complimentary foot massage while you wait, no caviar on those little gay toasts. It’s just what it says. A decent haircut and a stupidly low price. It’s the EXACT same cut I used to get at Sport Cuts for $ 21! It’s a bare bones, Vietnamese barber shop and that’s all it is. No bells or whistles and that’s all I want from a haircut. This is my barber shop from now on. Oh, it’s cash only. FYI, even though it’s $ 3.99, don’t ever expect that penny back. They must make a million every year, just on the pennies they beat you out of.

This isn’t the fanciest place around by a long stretch. However, the prices are mega awesome… I don’t think I’ve EVER paid $ 4 for a haircut before, at least not since I was a little kid. Women’s haircuts are extra, as a previous reviewer said, but still very cheap at $ 7. I wasn’t sure what to expect, but when I went in, I got seated immediately, told the stylist what I liked, and had a pretty decent haircut and was out the door in under 15 minutes. Most of the stylists are Vietnamese, but my stylist had no trouble communicating at all… and this is not the case at one other low-cost haircut place in Houston that I previously tried. Now, for people who have a complicated hairstyle, or who like a luxurious atmosphere while getting their hair trimmed… this probably isn’t the place for you. Myself, I like my hair short, and I like saving money, but I still want a regular haircut, not an at-home buzz cut. So for me, this worked out just fine and I’ll probably be back again. The prices are low enough that I have no excuse to NOT get a haircut when my mane starts getting shaggy. EDITEDTOUPGRADERATING: This place gets you in and out of there fast and you never have to wait long, so I’ve decided to raise my rating by one star. I had an appointment with another barber shop scheduled — was five minutes late due to never having been there before/had trouble finding the place, and they had already started cutting someone else’s hair. I was told that the barber could«work me in» but it would be another hour or so before I could get a haircut. Screw that! I left and came to Star, where I had my hair cut for about 1⁄3 the price of what the other shop charged, and I was in and out of there in under 20 minutes. Good haircut also.

In order to judge the suitability of this place for you, answer these questions: (1) Do you wear your polo with the collar popped? (2) Do you drive an expensive sports car? Is it leased? (3) Do your friends refer to you as «bro» or the more sultry«brah»? If you answered«yes» to one or more of the above questions, you will NOT fit in here and can stop reading. Class dismissed. Having had Peter T read my review and try out Raymond’s Barber Shop, I thought I’d return the favor and try out Star Hair Salon per his own review. It wasn’t all altruism — I was timing out on my current haircut and wanted to get a fresh cut post-haste since someone has bumped the Houston weather control switch and moved it to «Inferno hot». [If this was you, please go quickly and flip it back to «plain hot». Thank you.] As noted in another review, there is a huge brightly colored sign(yellow with orange/red lettering — see the pic for yourself) that you cannot miss for blocks. At first, I was using my GPS to find my way here but, within 2 blocks of it, I threw my phone on the seat since even Ray Charles could find it. Across from the skanky Fiesta on San Jacinto, the shop is a beehive of activity of mostly Vietnamese men and women cutting hair. Lacking shyness and epitomizing good old American capitalism, any one of them will holler«Haircut?» to anyone who opens the door. I got seated within 5 seconds of walking in and the older gent asked me how I wanted it cut. After 20 seconds of details, he was on my head like an Asian on a plate of rice. [This is a good thing.] Working efficiently, he finished the basic cut within 10 minutes then used a spray bottle of alcohol(?) as a bit of aftershave on the nape of my neck, which was a bit odd. Finally, he moved to providing me a neck-and-shoulder massage but I asked politely for him to stop. Not because it was bad — rather, I think it «too» personal for a salon visit. And, yes, I see the irony that I let him touch my head and cut my hair but didn’t want the massage. What can I say? I’m freaky that way. The place is definitely lacking in charm and Peter is right that this place isn’t for the stereotypical Midtown(or Washington Avenue) denizen. Basic cuts are their strength without the frills of magazines and LCD screens. Would I go back? Maybe for alternate visits but not necessarily as my regular shop. You can’t beat a men’s haircut for $ 4, though.

Services: 3.5÷5 Ambiance: 2⁄5 Prices: $ 3.99 men drycut In average, this salon has about 10 «stylist» at a time, mostly are Vietnamese ladies. I have been going here for over 3.5 years now and been always going to the same sweet, no bs, no attitude lady by the name — Lan! Being a «regular» customer, she always uses a different cover and most importantly a clean and new towel to wrap my neck. Eventhough she is inconsistent but she always do a good job to shape my otherwise, hard & straight hairs — the typical Chinese spiky unshapeable hair that is! She also takes her time, usually about 10 — 15mins compare with others who takes less than 10mins per head. Being said, I do need to go back at least every 2.5 weeks to have a trim just to make sure that i wont look like a mess! Dont come here expecting professional hairstylist. If you need to shave your head or just a simple trimming without paying the average of $ 10 and above, then by all mean, check this place out. There’s no magazines laying around nor LCD tv for your entertainment while you wait. But be warned, if you are River Oaks, Upper Kirby, Midtown Yuppy kinda person, then this might not be the place for you!

If you want the world’s cheapest haircut, head on over to Star Hair Salon, but don’t look for it by that name. The ginormous sign on Caroline Street, right by the Fannin Fiesta reads, «$ 2.99HAIRCUTS» in huge letters. And the words«Star Salon» are itty bitty beneath that. I don’t know how many stars to give this place, so I’ll go with 2; this is not a high class salon. But don’t think that means I don’t go to Star every time I need a cheap trim! The price can’t be beat, and it’s within walking distance from my house. The cleanliness there leaves a lot to be desired. And you don’t get a shampoo before your cut — just a spray-down with a spray bottle. Despite what the sign says, women’s cuts are $ 5, and men’s are $ 2.99. They only take cash.
