Great place to eat! Great food and staff!

I stopped here today for a patty melt and waffle fries to go. The devil brownies in the glass were calling me from the countertop when I got there, so I gave my inner fat girl soul to the devil for one of those to complete my order. I work nearby and when I got back into the office to eat… O M GAWD… Can you marry a patty melt? I say ‘I do’ to mine today — my boyfriend had the nerve to text me while I was eating — I didn’t answer soon enough he asked if I cared more about the patty melt than him.
Boy.Quit.Playing. You are about to get your feelings hurt.
But seriously — this spot has all the great classics at solid prices and consistent quality. I also like the interior, a mix of tables and booths but still has an open, airy feel. The staff is super nice and efficient too. SOOOO going back for another fix… I may cheat on Patty for a BLT. I’m such a lunch ‘ho… LMAOOOO!!!

Food was ok, but I made the mistake of dining inside and the heat was sweltering. Their AC was clearly not up to the job, as I was sitting in a booth beside the thermostat and saw it was 82 degrees despite being set at 69. After waiting a few minutes for my order and starting to sweat, I told them to pack the food to go and left as fast as I could. This is unacceptable in a city like Houston, but I’ve experienced temperature problems at several restaurants here. Create a comfortable environment for your paying customers or don’t expect them to return. Why would I pay you to be miserable?

They have a good sized menu, and it’s simple. The burgers were DELICIOUS!!! Waffle fries were also amazing! the only complaints were my coke was flat and the «hot dog» was chopped up and put into a hamburger bun? the pricing was decent for being in a high end area of town.

Awesome awesome burgers! I had the ham and cheeseburger, added avacado… oooomg yummo! Waffle fries and onion rings are on point as well. Next time I’ll be adding a milkshake. :)

I will not be returning to this establishment. The burger was fine but the customer service was absolutely ridiculous. The guy was rude he threw my food down like my money was not appreciated there. i felt very uncomfortable and it was an overall a bad experience. Will not be returning. LIKE EVER.

About time I had a real burger in Houston ! Before getting my eyebrows down I had to stop by this place since its next door. These are so juicy and the waffle fries are so unhealthy but good and that’s all that matters to me!

Burger was good and the waffles fries were okay. Honestly I expected a thicker patty and warmer fries, the fries tasted like they may have been sitting for a little while or were left over from the last batch. I came in at an awkward hour, so that may had been the case. Regardless, I didn’t dislike any of it but didn’t think it was as great as the reviews said they would be. In this area of town it may be considered 1 dollar sign, expect to pay 11 bucks for fries drink and cheeseburger (which is about average now a days anyways).

Best burger that I’ve had in a WHILE! I totally wanted to eat more than one!!! The potatoes were freshly sliced & were fried perfectly to a crunchy/​soft mix.

This place is delicious! Burgers are great and the waffle fries are the best! The only reason I didn’t give 5 stars is because of an unavoidable but unappetizing experience last night. My boyfriend picked up burgers for dinner and brought them home and, halfway through mine, there was a very long, black/​dark brown hair. Hair happens because humans have hair but it was pretty gross to pull that out of my mouth! My hair is red so it definitely wasn’t mine! Too bad the cook/​waitress/​person wrapping the food didn’t have on a hair net or something because, as much as I like the taste of the food, I keep associating that hair in my mouth with the restaurant which makes me kind of gross out and not want to go back that much. Other than that incident, the food is tasty!

The first of our spots that were listed I on best hamburgers in Houston list. Hubby, daughter and I went in for lunch. I ordered the jalapeño burger and onion rings, hubby had the bacon cheeseburger and my daughter had the hot dog. My burger was good, I wouldn’t say fantastic, the bacon they use was delicious though. My husband thought his burger was okay, the hot dog was actually pretty damn good! The hot dog weeny was really tasty, almost like sausage not an ordinary weeny. That I will say may have been the best thing. The waffle fries were good but the onion rings were super greasy. I would say overall experience was okay.

Good simple burger place, nothing new or unique. The price is reasonable and the size of the burgers are good. If you’re looking for a classic burger then come here. If you want something different or new, well, don’t come here.

Absolutely coming back! I loved the diner feel when I walked in and all the old pictures all over the walls. Ordered a bacon cheeseburger and let me tell you they do not shy on the bacon. The burger was juicy and bacon crisp, waffle fries were something else. If you’re looking for an awesome burger at a great price, this is the place for you.

Quick and efficient, but I wouldn’t think anything different located smack dab behind a high school track. To continue, you can’t expect such an affordable establishment to be doing anything too wild with the burgers and fries.
I found my avocado burger to offer everything you want in a classic American burger – that charred flavor, balanced out by a sweet, buttery bun – sometimes with a few chips that flake off, flavored by a bland tomato and slices of fresh-​cut onion.
Unfortunately, fries fall flat here. Lacking the crispy character desired, the sweet potatoes were literally limp.
The saving graces for Southwell’s are the classic and humble approach to the hamburger, despite an ever-​growing-​younger population in Houston; throwing caution to the wind when offering straightforward classics, mixed with some new age stuff – bacon, cheese, avocado and chicken burgers; and pricing. Good ol’ cheap grub.

Friendly service. Fairly quick. But Meh on the burger, nothing special about it. Burger and fries run about 9 bucks, could have went to whataburger and paid less. I’m a bit of a burger snob and well, this isn’t on my list. itll do if I want a burger and dont feel like driving, but overall not worth the money. Maybe its overpriced because of the area. Who knows. Its just OK. Not bad, but nothing to rave about.

Great old-​timey burger joint. Limited menu… only burgers and a handful of alternative choices… but don’t let let that deter you from coming here!

Five stars all day baby! If you want a good burger then go somewhere else. If you want a GREAT burger then look no further… you have arrived at the right place. The meat was cooked to perfection. Juicy but not greasy. Big enough to fit the bun, but not too thick. I topped my burger with grilled onions, bacon, cheese and fresh avocado. I could have added more but I didn’t want to seem greedy. You can get whatever you want on your burger. They have salads too, but I didn’t go to a burger joint to eat a salad so I can’t help you there. Meet me here for lunch and let’s grab a burger that’s cooked to perfection and topped with pieces of heaven!

This location is conveniently located by my office (maybe not such a good thing for my waistline) and the cost does not break the bank and on top of that, they make some darn good burgers and fries!
My better half and I sometimes come here for lunch when he’s on my side of town, and considering I have an hour on the dot for lunch, I’ve always been able to get in, order, eat, out, and back to the office in 45 minutes — score!
If I am going to have a cheat meal I’d choose a juicy, greasy (in a good way!) burger at Southwell’s than any other burger joint. Every single ingredient tastes so fresh and every bite is consistent in taste. I always order the sweet potato fries which have a perfect crunch in every fry.
The place is spot on clean every time I come. Once a set of customers stand up to leave the table is cleaned and ready to go for the next guest. As a previous restaurateur I can’t stress enough how important cleanliness is to a place next to the quality of the food. It’s the first thing you see when you enter the door.
I just wish there were more parking spaces in the strip. If you don’t get there early enough that’s what’s most time consuming about going there for lunch.

If you want a no nonsense, tasty burger, Southwell’s is the place to go!
