Pretty decent country cooking. We had the catfish and chicken pot pie. The rolls were ok. The muffins were the best part of the meal. I wouldn’t go out of my way to eat here though.

Visited around 5 on a Sunday evening. Was seated immediately. I knew I was in for some delish comfort food when I saw that almost all of the patrons were plump and happy! :) The sweet tea was really good. I’ve gotta shout that out because most places over-sweeten or under-sweeten their ‘sweet’ tea. Our waitress was excellent. The food just kept on flowing. included with our meal… appetizer of Fried Green Tomatoes and Fried Okra, fresh baked muffins(we had Blueberry & White Chocolate), and fresh baked dinner rolls. Kicker, the muffins and dinner rolls are thrown to patrons… fun! My Dad had a chicken salad that had more chicken than green. I had meatloaf and mashed potatoes with okra. The meatloaf was on the dry side but ok. Potatoes and okra were on point. My son had chicken fried steak. Steak was a little tough but otherwise, delicious. We wanted to try for desert but were too stuffed! My goodness at how generous they are with everything! Overall, had a great experience. Thankfully, this place is over an hours drive for me so it’s unlikely I’ll be back anytime soon.

Had to walk out but not without paying $ 15 dollars for 2 pork chop lunch. Chicken gravy with pork chops? This is Texas home of white cream gravy! Yes you get chicken gravy with your chicken fried steak too. Sacrilege in Texas. Mack and cheese? more like Mac & Water with some cheese sauce. Never got the chance to talk to «waitress» after the food delivered she was to busy talking on her cell phone to return to table Maybe she should have ducked out of sight but she didn’t just stood there in view with back turned to dinning room. They did manage to get her off the phone long enough to Bring her $ 15 dollar bill to the cashier. Save your Money or through it down the toilet(cut out the middle man) in either case you will be less frustrated and just as hungry.

Hostess and cashier not friendly. Service was horrible. Throwed rolls very good! Complimentary appetizers of Fried green tomatoes and okra were good. Rest of food mediocre. Checking in on Unilocal gives you a discount coupon you can use right then. Needless to say been there done that will not do again!

This is a fun restaurant which serves good country cooking. The kids have a blast having rolls and muffins thrown to them and the fact that they come right out of the baking tins makes it even more awesome. The food is good — tasty — and normally priced. The décor is whimsical — styles with antique cookware, carousel horses and more. Highly recommend!

Food and service was great, was not crowded at all. Brunch at 3pm, waitress was nice and very attentive to our table. Food was delicious, however plates was enough for two people, we should have split them. Muffins are very delicious, variety of flavors, and very warm & fulfilling. Have to watch it, If you eat to many muffins and rolls, there will be no room for your meal. Menu has a great selection to choose from, something to peak everyone’s needs. Huge parking lot, handicap access to building, restrooms, and facility. Very nice down to earth, restaurant, will visit again in the future.

I went here to celebrate a birthday party. I ordered fried pork chops, mashed potatoes and gravy, and black eyed peas. The food was not hot. The pork chops were not well seasoned. The rolls and the muffins were good. People in my party ordered various items such as catfish, chicken tenders, and chicken fried steak and no one liked their food. We all came to the conclusion that we will not be returning. Also the front desk was not organized and it took a while to be seated.

The throwed rolls were quite a novelty and piping hot as well. That included blueberry and chocolate muffins as well. All meals also come with fried okra and green tomatoes as an appetizer. The homestyle cooking and atmosphere was charming. I enjoyed the meatloaf with water chestnuts in it. This is a great value and i plan to return.

I’ve been coming here for a while and brought various friends and family here. While normally I have a good experience and friendly service, and recommend the prime rib, my father in law is visiting from Canada and ordered the Boston Strip, medium rare. He was trying to eat it and we noticed he was making faces and my wife and I tried a piece of the steak and it tasted like something frozen and cooked right away. While I am not expecting much, I expect a cut of meat to be served somewhat fresh and for $ 21 I damn well better get it. His order was last and probably rushed by the kitchen because they ran out of the prime rib and is probably why the steak tasted like sh*t. The manager said that she couldn’t do anything but take a discount off it since«half the meat was gone. Well what the hell do you expect when uou feed someone who’s hungry? After a few bites and then having his family confirm that the Boston strip was indeed nasty, of course the meat will be gone. As much as I do like the servers, particularly Jeanetta, who alone I’d give 10 stars out of 5, and getting bread and muffins thrown at me, we certainly will take our large parties of 10+ and dates with my wife elsewhere.

Had lunch with a friend/colleague here on 12÷4÷15. Food was ok. Problem was bill. Original bill was $ 20.35, I left 3.95 tip. = $ 24.30 Credit card company notified me of an irregularity. They had changed my Tip amount to $ 10.95. = $ 34.30. I contacted manager, less than helpful or concerned. Disputed with credit card company. Will never go back and will let other contacts of mine through LinkedIn, FB etc. know as well. I’m not concerned about $ 10.00, I will not patronize dishonest establishments knowingly.

All the hot rolls and muffins you can eat(white chocolate, chocolate and blueberry) Yummy! Weird transition from breakfast to lunch. Breakfast is served to 10:30 am and lunch starts at 11 am but they won’t let you order lunch items between that time. So if you’re coming for lunch, don’t get there before 11

We’ve been coming to this restaurant for a couple of years and we’ve always had a good experience. Plus, we love supporting small businesses. Tonight was different(10−9 – 15).The short-haired older blonde lady behind the counter who seated us was rude. No, «Hi, how are you?» No anything. Instead of asking us to follow her, she was like«come on»(and not a friendly or playful come on). I thought it was kind of odd, because I’ve never been told that at a restaurant, especially one with good customer service. When we were going to sit, my son accidentally sat at a different booth… her response«not that one, over here». We moved to the one she pointed to, but I really didn’t get what the big deal was, considering a couple of minutes later they sat a couple there. I asked my husband whether it was me, or did he catch the same vibe. He agreed, it wasn’t just me. I do have to say that our waiter, Justin, was so nice! Very friendly and attentive(the cashier/hostess could use some tips from him). He made our experience so much better!!! The food was okay. My husband has always liked the chicken fried steak, but he said tonight it tasted like it had been sitting under a light bulb or something. I ordered the rib eye and it was good. I guess it’s a hit or miss on the food. I love their muffin and rolls. They are always consistently good. At the end of our meal, the cashier(see above) just took the ticket swiped the card and slapped the ticket on the counter. no «thank you for coming» or even«can you please sign this for me?» Not a peep. It really got under my skin. Granted she was on the phone when I paid, but she was on the phone when the gentleman in front of me paid(who happened to be Caucasian) and she smiled and thanked him regardless. I hate to think it had something to do with race(we’re Hispanic), and I really hate to insinuate it, but that’s exactly what it felt like. For a 60 dollar meal, I expect better service. Hell, it could be a 1 dollar meal, and people should still treat you with respect and common courtesy. Unfortunately, it left such a bad taste in my mouth, that I vowed never to return. It’s a shame that the bad experience outweighed the good in this situation.

I’ve been coming here for years and always loved the service and food; however, this last time I have truly been disappointed. Service was still very good but the food and cleanliness has gone downhill– REALLYBADANDREALLYFAST. There were roaches crawling on the walls and dead ones resting in corners and at the windows(DONTLOOKBEHINDTHESHUTTERS!!!) The food is so bland and lacks even salt. My oldest ordered a «special» macaroni dish(Mac-Attack) which had bacon and he had just a few bites and was quickly out of tune with his appetite. The only real thing that’s good are the rolls — although there again comes the thought of… roaches!!!

Down home country cooking served by friendly people. There’s a lot to enjoy here. It’s a no-frills restaurant that has good Southern food. I loved my chicken fried chicken, mac and cheese and fries(served in a miniature wire basket). It’s also fun to watch the guy come out of the kitchen with a tray full of blueberry and regular muffins, and throw muffins at folks.

Decent restaurant for home style cooking. I’ve been coming here on and off for around 20 years and many people know they are famous in Houston for throwing their dinner rolls at you from afar… if you’re willing to catch them. I guess it’s just mainly a show for the kids, but sometimes adults get into the act as well. Most customers come for lunch or dinner I’d say, but on my most recent visit, I tried their breakfast for the first time. Breakfast entrees range in price from $ 6 – 11, so they can cater to most budgets. During breakfast they bring you their homemade cinnamon rolls, instead of the rolls… and those are pretty tasty. Everything on my he-man plate, as I like to call it, was good(read, not great just good) and cooked as I requested. Service is about average here. They were out of orange juice on the day I visited, so a lot of customers were probably pretty disappointed since several tables near me also wanted to order it as well.

Ohhhh Potato patch!!! So adorable amd charming and awesome. If I could have one item of food to eat forever it would be bread and this place is a bread extravaganza!!! Like…they throw multiple types of rolls and bread and muffins at you during your whole stay. Honestly, all I really need to order here is some salad and water. But the food is decent too. Not my favorite… but the bread LITERALLY makes up for anything lacking in the food.

:-) there are plenty of comments made about this place both good and bad. Based on my experience, there is some truth in ALL of these reviews… If your looking for a down home-countryfide-bootshooten-rib stick’n-heehaw kind of place to eat, well then this is the place for you! It could be just me but this place is trying to replicate what is done exceptionally well in the Lambert restaurants in Missouri, home of the thrown rolls. It’s always busy, so give them a try!
