This would be my pick of the best Indonesian restaurant in Houston! Sadly they’re closed… I miss this place =’( My faves at this restaurant are: sweet pork satay, siomay bandung, pork meatball noodle combination, special fried rice, otak2, ketoprak, gado2, kwetiau goreng, kangkung hot plate was amazing!!, taliwang chicken, and ofcourse their desserts was super good too… They also used to have special combo every weekend, which they served food that’s not on the menu… Sop buntut, Rawon, Nasi Padang, Soto Betawi, you name it they can cook it & cook it good! They also cater food for parties, they have nasi tumpeng complete with all the sides & on a nampan(you have to return the nampan after you’re done hehe). Very traditional looking & good for parties. I’ve ordered at least 4 nasi tumpeng from them over the years. Hopefully they will open their restaurant again maybe at another place… =)

This was one of the best Indonesian cafes in Houston, but they are now CLOSED. I think a Chinese restaurant is now in it’s place. So sad :(

Chinese-Indonesian cuisine with tasty Beef Randang. The Beef Randang was SOMUCHBETTER than at Café Malay. I feel better now having said that. I’m still bitter about that meal. Anyway, at Noodle House 88 we fought over Beef Randang and steamed Jasmine rice(beef was a little stringy, but sauce was excellent), and dipped fish cakes wrapped in banana leaves(otak otak) into a spicy peanut satay-like dip. A dried squid noodle dish called rujak juhi was fresh but coated with a(overstated) sweet peanut sauce, so not my favorite. The Nasi Goreng(fried rice) with sator(stink beans — but they aren’t really stinky) was OK. Next time I would add greens and more protein but it was a great first foray. I took recommendations from James Oseland(author of Cradle of Flavor and Saveur Editor) via Robb Walsh. An nice feature of the location is that post-meal you can venture a few doors down for dessert at Gelato Cup.

This small Chinese Indonesian restaurant in the Bellaire China Town has some really enjoyable food at reasonable prices. I recommend the beef satay and dumpling appetizers. We did not try the Indonesian lumpia nor the spicey fried fish ball, but they would be worth a try. The Taliwang roast chicken was excellent as was the Noodle House 88 special egg noodles. Desserts include shaved ices, banana split and sorbet. They also have slushies and floats. Rating on a 10 point scale: Food 7 Service 6 Ambience 2 Value 7 Price $ Reviewed by Ben Koshkin

Noodle House 88 is great to go eat after shopping at Dun Huang Market =P The food is fast, tasty and cheap. I went to dinner with some friends today, and man was the food was good. By the way, the food is Chinese-Indonesian, just so you know :) Anyways, we ordered the fried tofu for an appetizer, Indonesian fried bean sprout noodles, beef satay(I didn’t try it though), vegetarian fried noodles, house special flat rice noodles, and bok choy in garlic sauce. Everything was delish =) So if you want some more variety other than just your everyday(at least everyday for me xD) chinese food, this is the place to go!
