Being from Hawaii, I was excited to see a musubi truck. Musubis are everywhere in hawaii(and japan) as an easy snack of rice ball with various fillings covered in nori. Of course Hawaii is well known for the spam musubi which is exactly what I ordered. And a ramen. since i’m a pig. I got the spam musubi, no pineapple(that’s just weird). And the kim chee ramen with an egg. Yes, I’m a pig. But to be honest, I wanted to really try this place a real review and since food trucks can be hard to track down, when I do get an opportunity to try one, I go all out. The ramen, to be honest, was just ok. Granted I had to get my order to go, so it may have been better had I eaten it right away. The noodles were chewy and the broth was just ok. I like things pretty spicy and this was lacking. The mac salad that comes with the musubi was just ok. It was really dry for a mac salad. I know most people can’t eat the real mac salad of hawaii with it’s excessive use of mayo, but dry macaroni next to a ball of rice seems odd carb on carb combo. The spam musubi was delicious. I enjoyed the added crunch of veggies and, as simple of a dish as this may be, it was good. Since so few places make this, I will go back just to have more of one of my favorite snacks. yum!

This review is long overdue. One of my biggest passions was chasing down these food trucks. The rush is dying down because they’re everywhere now. But I did track these guys down at one of my favorite bars: Khon’s. So it made it easy to grab a bite to eat and a glass of wine. Their truck is not the most aesthetically pleasing to say the least. We had the Caramelized pork belly musubi. I was not impressed, a lot of rice. We also the roasted duck and garlic beef sandwiches, it sounded better than it tasted. We also shared two bowls of their ramen, thePeking duck and pork belly ramens. It was a slight upgrade over the premium ramen bowls you get at the asian markets. I was pretty sad.

2 Stars for effort, but I was not feeling it here. Attended Houston Food Truck Fest at Studio live. I tried the banh mi and the extremely large sushi roll(I don’t know the exact names because it was my boyfriend that got it.) I liked the banh mi bread, just the right amount of crispy. The sushi roll wasted some real estate in my stomach with the packed amount of rice, but even then, the flavors just didn’t fit my tastebuds. Same with the chips too. :(Please revamp!

I actually decided to stop by the night market hosted by the Asia Society just because I saw MuSuBi would be there, and I’ve been wanting to try their food. So I was kind of disappointed that they ran out of musubi an hour into it, but did get to try the pork belly sandwich and wasabi chips. Sandwiches normally aren’t my «thing», but I regret having to share my husband’s…it was that good. The bread was just the right amount of crispy on the outside and still soft on the inside, the pork was thinly sliced and fairly tender, and whatever sauce they use is like crack. I just want a bottle of it to take home. The wasabi chips are definitely interesting, in a good way. I can’t handle wasabi, so it got a bit intense for me, but it was still good overall.

I tried the Spicy Pork Ramen(I believe) from this food truck one night w/my foodie friend. I thought the ramen did have a little bit of a kick to it(since normally when they say spicy, it’s not really that spicy to me). Food was definitely served hot. Accidentally burned myself when I was trying to bring the bowl down to my level, but I’m ok. No biggie. Really enjoyed the ramen. No wonder they sold out at the Haute Wheels Food Truck Festival.

I ordered the pork belly and French ham sandwich with wasabi chips. Man, I was really hoping for something outstanding, but it was just not that. The bread was pretty good – but in a way that should have set the stage to deliver an outstanding performance by what was(should have been) inside. Maybe there just wasn’t enough of the meats snuggled in between to pick up a distinct and memorable flavor experience. It wasn’t BAD by any stretch – it’s just not up to its potential, yet. These folks will get another chance – more than a few fellow Unilocalers are pointing to the duck and garlic beef sandwich as the way to go, and so, I will go in that direction next opportunity.

Underwhelmed is how I would describe my MuSuBi experience. I ordered the pork belly musubi assuming it’d have a thick slab of porky goodness. It came out to be short strips of pork(i.e. uncured bacon) playing hide ‘n seek between the layers of brightly colored vegetables and rice. Overall the musubi was well balanced in flavor. As for the macaroni side… definitely filler food. That day the macaroni had a bright Cheetos orange color to it. So I got excited thinking it’d be a mac ‘n cheese. It wasn’t mac ‘n cheese. Ended up being a bland pasta salad with raw green onion bits in it. Didn’t bother eating the rest. In the end, I left wanting more food but not from the truck.

I was a little put off by Vietnamese sandwiches being $ 7.50, when they are traditionally $ 2 – 3 everywhere else. But after one bite, I shut up about that cause it was worth it! I had the duck and beef sandwich and it just melted in my mouth! I love that it is served with chips on the side? Whatever spicy thing was on those was also awesome. The people working the truck were super nice as well. After seeing people walk away with ramen, I think I shall give that a whirl next time. And ohhhh there’s gonna be a next time for sure!

I’m giving this a 2-star because the eggrolls were tasty but 4 small ones for $ 5.50 is steep & if the nice lady asks if you’d like to add the banana leaf wrapped garlic shrimp dumplings to your order, just say NO! Again, they were 4/$ 5.50& I was expecting little pouches of goodness but these were extremely sticky concoctions that had an overpowering fishy smell when you bit into them along w/the crunch of shrimp shell. We were grossed out & had to spit it out. I’m not sure if this is an acquired taste but it was not pleasant @ all. We threw them away, but I should have taken them back. The pics of their other food looks good but I have a bad taste in my mouth from my HEB Food Fest experience & won’t be trying them again.

We were newbies, so we tried the Cajun Shrimp & crab MuSuBi, the caramelized pork belly MuSuBi, and the roasted duck & garlic beef Vietnamese Sandwich. All were served with pasta salad(kind of bland) and a sesame chip(tasty!). They were all good, but the Duck & Beef sandwich was absolutely perfect. Great combination of flavors, bread was perfectly toasty –crunched when I bit into it. We did add an egg on top of the sandwich and it was also perfect. It added so much flavor to the pasta salad. I highly recommend! Follow them on twitter to find out where they are each day @musubiHOUSTON

I tried this place on a whim because it pulled into the parking lot across from the Starbucks I was studying at. I love musubis, so I was really excited to try this place. I was a little turned off by the prices but I decided to just go for it. I bought the spam&egg musubi for myself and the crab&shrimp one for my girlfriend and I wasn’t aware that each order came with a side of wasabi chips too. The spam was as crispy as other Unilocalers said, but I think I preferred the crab&shrimp. I think this is probably because the daikon radish didn’t mix well with the spam, giving it an awkward taste. Then I decided to give the wasabi chips a try and normally I like wasabi a lot but I don’t know if it’s because I don’t know how wasabi chips are supposed to taste, but I couldn’t stand the taste at all! I thought it’d be an acquired taste so I tried to finish an order, but I couldn’t get paste the bitter bite it had. Overall though, I liked the truck-design, as well as the staff, who were very polite and attentive, but I hated that I had to shout my order over the ridiculously loud generator they had attached to their truck. It took longer than I expected for two musubis that I wasn’t very impressed by. If I ever give this place another shot, maybe I’ll try the ramen or the banh mi instead.

Musubi is definitely one of the top food trucks out there… and I’ve eaten at A LOT of food trucks. Their ramen noodles were filling, satisfying, and incredibly flavorful. The musubis are an interesting concept and it is very well done. Delicious, reasonably priced, and MuSuGood! The service was excellent as well! The staff was very nice, attentive, and not bad looking either ;) Will definitely be back for more ramen and musubi!!!

MuSuBi food truck was parked at Inversion café today so hubby and I stopped by to give it a try. We were stoked cuz there aren’t that many places that have Musubi in Houston. Unfortunately we were disappointed. Hubby got pork belly and i got the classic spam and spicy egg and neither were good. Although I appreciated the Vietnamese twist with pickled carrots and daikon the musubi was trying too hard to be something more than what it really is… it just wasnt«right.» We also felt like the meat portions were pathetic and Macaroni salad was a little too al dente and had zero taste/flavor. Will definitely not return or reccommend to others. Hubby and I felt like the musubi we got at the gas stations in Hawaii were tastier than the ones from this truck.

MuSuBi is MuSuGood for the tummy and the soul when it comes to comfort Asian food on this dragon wagon. The food truck craze has taken over the US and Houston is right on the heels of all the hype. MuSuBi is right on track of this craze with their urban dressed truck, chalk board menu, and relaxed staff dress code. I have had MuSuBi on my list for awhile and when I pulled into the parking lot of Inversion Coffee House, there was MuSuBi. It was fate for MuSuBi and I to finally be introduced and hopefully start our food affair in the right way. A beautiful face popped out of the window and asked if I needed help, and after quickly looking over the menu, I decided on the Cajun shrimp and crab MuSuBi. I had never been introduced to MuSuBi, so I didn’t know what to expect, but I figured that it was a safe bet since the truck was named after the food. After getting my order, promptly I might add, I was pleasantly surprised by what I got on my to-go plate. I didn’t realize that MuSuBi was like a giant wrapped sushi sandwich. YUM! Any place that wraps Asian flavors in seaweed is always a hit with me. The dimensions of flavor from the Cajun and sriracha sauces added a nice twist to what would have otherwise potentially been a boring experience with MuSuBi. The spicy flavor packed a punch that was cooled by the rice and cucumber to balance the dish for a wonderful clean, yet tasty dish. I wasn’t as crazy about the side salad that was just cooked macaroni with hints of spice and fresh herbs. It wasn’t anything to write home about, so I would have preferred to have 3 pieces of MuSuBi and no salad if given the option. The salad just seemed to be more of a filler and didn’t leave me feeling like I wanted anymore after a couple bites. Overall, I enjoyed the MuSuBi, but in the future I’ll be requesting a substitution on the salad or I’ll end up ordering an item that doesn’t include it at all. Check the social media sites to catch up with this dragon wagon for a delightful Asian meal.

The ramen was so good. The fried egg, the seaweed, the cabbage… Just everything about it. I was so happy eating my ramen. The only complaint I have was that ramen is not really a good food truck food. I feel like ramen should be eaten sitting down rather than from a food truck. One of the owners also apparently graduated from UH’s hotel and restaurant management school. You can definitely tell because the other items on the menu have a gourmet kind of feel. The sandwich had some pâté. I don’t remember what else seemed gourmet, but I did appreciate that it wasn’t just«Here’s an Asian-Mexican fusion taco.»

Good stuff. Did a good job with the Kimchi ramen, even packaged the noodles and broth separately for our ride; was a big step up from the Miso Yummy we had the previous weekend, though the noodles were oddly flat and unremarkable quality. Musubi sandwich was interesting, never had one before, opted for the pork belly. Was a tad mushy, after the car ride, but tasty, and perhaps to be expected. The macaroni side was nothing special, but eh; these guys are out there doing something different, doing it well — there’s some value in novelty even if every high note is not hit. Surprised there are few reviews, perhaps visibility and location are a factor? Will be back.

Walked one block west down Westheimer from the Galleria, found a food truck at Yorktown, and had to try it before Houston restricts food-trucks out of business. Perfect Garlic Beef rolls, excellent lightly sweetened macaroni salad, and a crunchy sesame rice flat-bread piece. I’m telling the office & I’m going again.

I usually go to Aloha grill for my musubi fix, but lately, they’ve been lacking the taste. Luckily a new musubi-based food truck has risen! They offer different musubis, from seafood to vegetarian and more! on my first visit, i tried their caramelized pork belly with five spice egg upon recommendation from the owner(i believe). it consist of pork belly and egg with the companion of cucumber, pickled daikon and carrots served with rice wrapped in nori(seaweed). oh my, was it delicious! the pork belly and egg was very well flavored and juicy. with the vegetables and rice, every bite was well balanced and flavorful. all of musubi comes with a side order of macaroni salad and sesame chip. The macaroni itself is good and light. i’m not sure what’s the purpose of the sesame chip, i guess to eat it with the salad, but i could go without it. One key factor that was wrong, that i’m sort of disappointed about because this could’ve been a very successful trip, was the rice. the rice on my musubi was undercooked… it’s either they reused the rice or didn’t have time to cook it thoroughly, but it was very well notice that several grains were still hard and dry. It was sort of a small mistake and some of the rice were edible, so i just pushed part of the rice aside. They also serve vietnamese sandwiches, ramen, vietnamese coffee, and sugar cane(not daily). Overall, i really did enjoy the food. Owner was very nice. For the pricing, you can’t really complain cause it’s several ingredients added onto one dish and sales tax is included. so it’s not that expensive. I can’t wait to come back and try their peking duck and pork belly ramen! I’m getting so hungry as I think about it… lol…
