Wasn’t impressed with this place, rude owner, bad food, no draft beer, very dirty, i think it’s more for old people… but still in my opinion this place is sucks,

You cannot find a better burger for the price in Houston! The Philly cheesesteak is also great (make sure to get it with jalapenos!), the beer is cold, and the service is friendly… Frank will have a good joke for you when he brings you your food. If you work in the area, you can easily come for lunch and be done within 30 – 45 minutes and spend under $ 10. If you’re in a rush, just call ahead and start your order! Big garage doors on three sides give a nice breeze, and this last year Mike’s has upgraded to big plasma screen televisions. If ice houses are your kinda place, you’ll love it here. Just don’t tell too many people and clog up my hiding place!

Truthfully, I am not the biggest fan of the ice-​house concept. In the old days they sold ice, making them comfortable places to escape the brutal Texas heat. Nowadays these converted garages are more like sweatshops as the idea of buying ice and lugging it home melted away with the invention of household freezers. Cold beer is all that remains of the concept.
Mike’s Restaurant & Ice House is located in the middle of a slowly disappearing neighborhood where commercial buildings are rapidly displacing the life-​long residents. It is quite difficult to find. Imagine a local neighborhood bar just off the Richmond Strip between Fondren and Dunvale due North of the Westpark Tollway.
In typical ice-​house fashion the atmosphere is extremely laid back; smoking is allowed, and I’m pretty sure you can bring a pet. The décor is simple sporty: bar stools-​TV-​sports banners-​bench tables-​two pool tables. The ambiance is blue-​collar with a tinge of white-​collar networking, a great place to find an AC technician for your house that needs work and an accountant to do your taxes. The drink special is a bucket of beer (6) for $ 13.00. The food special is a Cheeseburger for $ 6.75.
For an ice-​house, the place is quite clean. Also, the owners are on the property providing extremely friendly service. For these reasons, Mike’s has become our go-​to place for a quick-​n-​easy burger-​n-​beer after work. Enjoy!
