Houston has many great comic book stores, but Midnight is probably not one of them. Not a lot could be said about this place, other than it being small and unorganized. Although Midnight offered a large selection of gaming related products, their comics section was almost non-existent. You could literally find more comics across the street at Barnes & Noble, which is definitely not a good sign for a comic book store. Midnight also had the smallest selection of collectibles and memorabilia of any store in Houston, but they did carry Manga of all things. Overall this store was great for people who loved Magic the Gathering cards, but that’s about it. Midnight Comics also had the reputation of being one of the most unorganized stores in Houston. Even if they had what you were looking for, you probably wouldn’t find it. Asking for help didn’t do much either, the people who worked there were often just as clueless as their customers. It was also pretty hard to tell who worked there and who didn’t. It was also pretty messy. The store was small and cramped, so any boxes or wires that were left out could instantly become a safety hazard for customers. Also, because of the store’s size. there was really nothing that could be done about it. Midnight’s one redeeming factor was it’s hours, they were the only comic shop open past Midnight. However, good hours alone cannot save a business. Overall, Midnight’s negatives greatly outweighed it’s positives. With all it’s problems, it’s no wonder they went out of business.

No star change, but the location has moved to HW6 and Westheimer in the Walgreen’s parking lot next to the mattress firm. I just wanted to update this so that the nerds don’t drive to sunnyside looking for this place.

Okay, I said in my last comic book store review that the only way I’ll be writing another short review is if I review another comic book store… So, here it goes. I was trying to surprise a friend when he told me that he could not find a Green Lantern comic anywhere in the Houston area comic book stores. I figured it might be a challenge, but I could try it out. I googled comic book stores around my house and found this one. I gave them a call and lo and behold, they had a few copies left! I instantly had them reserve a copy for me and went to get it in the next hour. I ended up getting lost, so I gave them a call again and they were great about helping me find my way — so kudos to them! I finally parked outside of the store and as I walked in, I realized I had just stepped into the dark world of gamers and other geeky people. There were awesome plasma TVs placed around the store and it was literally FULL of anything a «geek»(I’m not being derogatory here) could ask for. There were several people working and I could tell they were caught by surprise when a girl walked in, but they were all really nice and got me the book I was looking for! So, in short… They’re awesome. Geeks are awesome. And the next time a friend can’t find a comic book anywhere else, I’ll know who to turn to. P. S. This review wasn’t so short after all!

When I’m looking for a comic shop I’m looking for a place where I can feel at home. I don’t want a store that is only interested in separating me from my money and getting me out of the door as quick as possible. I want a place were everyone is knowledgable and friendly. At Midnight that is exactly what you get. Whether you’re looking for the latest comics, games or just interesting conversation about the biz, they have what you need.

This place should just be called Midnight Games cuz the dorks/nerds over there only play Magic. & the only comics they carry are Marvel/DC top titles.

Where do Houston’s West-side geeks go for non-electronic geek goods? Midnight Comics. No question. They have an awesome selection of gaming stuff and just about every variety of collectible card game, a giant bucket of funny-shaped dice and(of course) comics. Here is the deal about Midnight Comics: This stuff is serious there. Do NOT make jokes where they can hear you. I once saw a little girl at the checkout with her Dad refer to the place as «The Geek Store» and the entire mood in the store shifted to one of thinly veiled dork hostility. Oh sure, the guy got to complete his purchase. I just doubt he ever got up the nerve to go back. It is open late, well-stocked, and popular. But remember this: Comics = Not a game Pop Culture = Not a game Games = Not a game
