Best Indian food in town. Price is amazing and service is ok. Just great quality and portions and price are awesome. I recommend the garlic naan and the chicken takki.

I have been to this restaurant several times already, and there are a few things I would like to mention regarding the quality of the food here. The restaurant serves buffet at lunch, and while the price is quite reasonable, the food probably only deserves 3 stars. It is pretty ordinary compare to any other Indian buffet: However, the dinner here is quite something. The dishes are delicious and are on par with some of the top Indian restaurants in Houston with a much cheaper price. I recommend the goat curry or vindaloo if you are into spicier flavor. I would rate this place 5 stars if not for the quality of the buffet. Also I would like to mention that I only had curry and nothing else, so take my review with a grain of salt if you are looking at other dishes.

Let me start by saying the tastiness of the goat curry sauce was super savory. Just be careful because there are tons of bones and several chunks of fat in it. If it wasn’t for the rice and naan, I’d still be hungry for lack of meat. The servers were polite, but, negligent. I asked for a soda that never came. They served the food politely and never came back. If I were ever in the area again, I’d still try the buffet.

I never would have chosen this place and was invited by my friend who is from India. We were a party of 5 and had a table full of food with several appetizers and 5 entrees both vegetarian and one with chicken and one with lamb… We shared everything and all had enough to take home. I loved all the various flavors and textures. We also ordered a bottle of wine to share. The entire meal was less than 100 dollars for 5 people, booze, and it made a delish brunch the next morning… I am down with that… Check your first world expectations and white privilege at the door and get down an grub authentic indian food…

I would say Mayuri is best indian lunch buffet restaurant I have been too. The spread is very very good. Every indian food lover will find something as per his or her liking. They have several non veg and veg options. They have some authentic south indian items(dosa, idli) i. the buffet. I recomment everyone to visit this restaurant and try the lunch buffet.

Run, guys run!!! Worst Indian food in Houston EVER! Old Naan, under-cook goat meat. I don’t know how they could go wrong with Gulab jamun, horrible! Worse yet it sicken both my girlfriend and I. I wish I could give zero star.

The lunch buffet was just okay. They didn’t have some of my favorites(butter chicken, mango ice cream) that were normally available. Oh well though. Probably won’t come back in the future since the food was mediocre.

Based on the reviews here, Mayuri seems to be a polarizing place. I have eaten Indian food all over the U.S. & Britain(the best place for Indian cuisine). I find Mayuri a very good place for flavorful Indian dishes. The variety on the buffet is also very good. The weekend buffet has even more choices. Although, I’m not sure what to think about there being a few Chinese dishes.(My recommendation: Skip it!) While I prefer Indian buffets where the naan and the tandoori chicken are made fresh, they make up for it by offering dosas and mango soft-serve ice cream(delicious) with the buffet. In any event, you can try to wait and grab the freshly made naan. If you don’t trust my word, why is the restaurant packed on weekends with South Asian-Americans? Why do many of these people book the back rooms for birthday parties and other celebrations? I think the food is relatively spicy compared to suburban places that bland it down. That could be an issue for some. Service can be zombie-like once you sit down. This can be both cultural and indifference. I find that waiving down a waiter usually works. But how much service do you need for the buffet? The rice pudding recipe simply has got to go. I don’t care if this is how the chef’s family makes it. Rice pudding should be nice and creamy, not thin and watery.

If you’re looking for a complete Indian Buffet this is the right place to go. I’ve tasted every item and they taste delicious.

You can eat in or order out here. food is good and authentic. The roti is made fresh so I definitely loved that. The service is friendly. Loved the goat curry :) but they could benefit from turning down the ac a little bit… nobody wants to eat spicy food and be hot at the same time.

I wish i had written a review of this place when it used to better because it has really gone down hill over the past year or two. This was one of my go to place, not just for Indian food, but overall. Now it is a shadow of it former self with mediocre food, sub-par service, and it always seems hot in the restaurant. I like a spicy Vindaloo and this place has that but it seems to be missing soothing that it use to have, maybe just quality. I have not been back to buffet in years, but I will try that again, but this is off the list of restaurants for me. Too many strikes. With some many great restaurants in Houston, this place just no longer cuts it.

If I could give this place 10 zero stars I would but unfortunately Unilocal doesn’t have that option. Anyways… this place has the worst costumer service and the guy at the desk was rude and had a nasty attitude about a take out order. I spoke to some lady earlier put in an order she said no problem read the order back for me again… I arrive to pick up my order and everything was wrong some dishes weren’t even there after reviewing it in the car. I then walked back in and spoke to the guy about the order he simply bushed me off like I was some homeless guy trying to use his restroom. Disgusting don’t order here don’t eat here don’t even go inside the place. Gross!

While Indian food is normally(surprisingly) expensive, Mayuri is a nice break from the norm. The food here is quite good and authentic, however, service can be slow and the AC spotty. Mayuri has a great lunch buffet, but given the location, can be rather crowded. Definitely a good alternative if seeking to avoid the traditional Hillcroft Indian restaurants.

Worst customer service! No more papad for free; they cut down the quantity but not the price. They could really learn to smile and improve the service in order to survive!

We tried the buffet. Everything was tasty. Lots of curries to try and find your favorite. Our kids are toddlers so we weren’t charge for their food. We are coming back to try more and to bring our eat-lover friends over. Only a word of caution about the spices, dishes are not labeled to be hot so you need to find out which one you can give to kids not used to eat Indian food.

Being South Asian myself, I know what good Indian food is. This is not it. I have heard that their lunch buffet is better, but dinner was just ok. I came here with a couple of friends, because I was craving dosas and they wanted to try Indian food. It was pretty empty when we arrived for dinner. I ended up ordering the masala dosa. The dosa I received was much too sour. By the end of our meal, my craving for dosas was not just filled. I am still searching for that crispy, tasty dosa. The food, in general, was also quite spicy. Our waiter seemed confused when he took our orders, and I couldn’t tell if he had heard or understood everything correctly. It really worried me that he didn’t write down anything, and with good reason. They forgot one of our orders! Then, when we paid with separate checks, they messed up one of our bills. One last thing: I felt like I was eating in the dark! The lights were way too dim. An elderly couple sitting near us actually had to pull out the flashlights on their phones in order to read the menu!

I was invited to Mayuri by my brown coworkers. Despite the fact that I’m on a diet and the fact that buffets destroy diets like Godzilla does Japanese infrastructure, I agreed, because hey, how can you turn down colleague bonding time over Indian food? We were the first customers at the lunch buffet, and everything was already laid out and prepared(around 11:10AM). I tried to try a little of everything, my favorite of which were the Chicken 555, butter chicken, goat curry, and this spinach-with-corn thing with an Indian name that I don’t remember. They also have naan(bread) and dosa(Indian crepes) coming fresh out of a counter, which was cool. Other props go to the salad bar, equipped with various fruits and chutneys. Oh, and the two desserts — Gajar Halwa(sweet carrot pudding) and Kheer(rice pudding). The Kheer is KHEELER. Chilled, ricey, with lentils, and not too sweet — it’s probably one of my favorite desserts ever. Last, but not least, shout out to the mango ice cream soft serve. Nice twist there. Oh, and of course, in case you’re wondering, I had a salad for dinner.

At Mayuri, you will certainly find the Indian/Pakistani crowd. The buffet is large with good selections, and the flavors are authentic. I loved the egg curry, but they also have goat curry, beef curry and chicken curry. The worst thing on the buffet was the Palak Paneer. I was hoping it would taste similar to Saag Paneer, but the corn mixed with the creamed spinach was just not good at all. My favorite item on the buffet was some sort of very spicy eggplant curry(the eggplant is mashed so I didn’t even know what it was). To top off all the yummy food, they even have mango flavored ice cream. It is so creamy, and after my spicy choices, it really helps to calm my system. I would really give the food 5 stars, but if it came to service alone, I couldn’t even give 1 star. They are always disorganized. They don’t take drink orders but serve lukewarm water. On two separate occasions, my water glasses were dirty. When you finally track someone down to order a soft drink, it takes a long time to get it, and you usually have to ask several people — especially for refills. They request 15% tip at the register on the check; however, the service is absolutely not worth it. Worst service ever. It is almost as if they just blatantly disregard you because how else could the entire staff be so darn forgetful.

If you enjoy Indian food, this is one of the best places in Houston. I came for a weekday lunch buffet, and the food was fresh. There are plenty of items to choose from, but I feel that the curries/sauces are better with the vegetable dishes over the meat dishes. Dosas and naan are fresh and tasty. The mango soft serve is delicious, some of the tastiest soft serve I have ever had. I do not understand why the restaurant is encouraging 15%+ for tips at a self-serve restaurant, but drinks are refilled and used plates are taken away in a timely manner. Well worth the trip from anywhere in the Houston metro area.

With indian buffets I’ve had only mediocre or awful experiences. With indian food I rather just order from a menu knowing that it’s hot and fresh. My indian friend speaks highly of Mayuri and raves that her family only goes to this buffet. But she said she prefers the lunch buffet than the dinner of ordering a la carte. The restaurant is very spacious. The buffet line is a little bit bigger than most indian buffets I’ve been since it includes a salad bar. They provide unlimited regular naan and dosas with your meal. These items are sitting out and I wish they were made to order but when you get them fresh, they are awesome! My favorite was the Mayuri special chicken curry, good spice and extremely flavorful! I did not like the goat curry because the meat was extremely tough. I’m not sure if goat is naturally tough or they did not cook it well. The mango ice cream at the end was the perfect touch to an authentic indian experience! Price per person is about $ 12. Try to go during the weekend, they have a lot more speciality dishes that you might not find during the week day.
