I always get my supplies here! If I can’t find something, the owners are very quick to offer help. They always have things in stock, and have some of the best prices on cake supplies in Houston. I will continue to drive past my closer cake supply shops to go to Make A Cake because of their awesome customer service, prices, and inventory.

I’ve been to the store twice before there’s nothing wrong with the store the only problem I have is the guy who works there!!! Everyone talks wonders about the staff and to be honest the guy is a total jerk.

Staff was helpful and offered advice. They were out of a baking pan I needed but took down my info and called me as soon as they had it. So for them, I give this place 5 stars. I’ve only been here twice though because buying online is still more cost effective for someone who does this as a hobby, not a job. I have recommended this place over major name craft stores for their wider range of selection.

Heaven. Absolute heaven. It’s my go to place for my baking needs. They have almost everything you need. I say almost because they don’t have more of the sophisticated molds and equipment needed to make more modern and sophisticated looking desserts. That aside, they just about have everything else you may need. Cake boxes, toppers, decorations, pans, fondant, gel colors, gumpaste materals, chocolate molds, and more. The staff here is always so nice and always willing to help me. If i’m trying out a new product, they’ll demo the product for me right there and show me the correct way to use it. Love it! On a side note: If you’re going to need an edible image printed, make sure you’re following copy right laws, or have a letter granting permission for them to have.

I’m a part time baker. This place has EVERYTHING I need at such a great price. The store is not that big, but believe me, they carry everything! Its like getting everything at wholesale price. Which profits for me so much more as a small side business. Everyone behind the counter here is so nice and helpful too.

I enjoy my little trips there. They have just about anything you could need and I still manage to forget to get this or that :) when I go. And they take American express. The other other near by cake supply doesn’t.

This is the most amazing selection of baking supplies I have ever seen. Every type of décor and supply you can imagine is here. Prices can be a little high for certain things, but overall you will save money doing your own cakes. It was a lot of fun to browse around, and the owner was friendly and informative.

I have been shopping at Make a Cake for over 20 years. I recently started my own home-based cupcake business, and Make a Cake is my «go to» place to just about all my supplies. I try to avoid using artificial colors in my icing, but if someone requests colored icing, Make a Cake is guaranteed to have multiple options. The owner is friendly and helpful as is his staff. The one thing I will probably stop buying there is my bakery boxes. It’s nice to be able to run in and pick up what I need, but I can get a better price ordering them in bulk. I’m in there every week, and have yet to have bad service.

My wife and I finally had a chance to check out Make-A-Cake, and we’re glad we did! They have a great selection of pans, cake boards, and boxes in all shapes and sizes. If you’re ever in a pinch and need a pan NOW, Make-A-Cake probably has it. Most are Wilton brand where we prefer Fat Daddio’s — but again, if you need one in a pinch, they’ll probably have it. Their paint and color selection is pretty good, but mainly sticks to the basic colors: rather than having all the various shades of «green,» they sell only a couple, for example. A big plus for us is that they sell high-ratio shortening, which is what we use in our icing — and it’s good to know we can get it «locally.» They also sell Satin Ice fondant, but only in the 5 pound tubs. It’d be great if they sold both of the aforementioned items in their 20 pound tubs, as well. I understand that they can order anything you like, though, which is a big plus. All in all, Make-A-Cake is a great, basic resource and supplier for the vast majority of anyone’s baking needs — and we’re glad we can add it to our list of suppliers!

I can understand that there’s reason to be excited over this place. But some of the items are a little overpriced. For example, Make-A-Cake has a cookie scoop priced at 16 dollars, whereas Sur La Table, Bed Bath and Beyond, and Macy’s all have a similar sized scoop for around 10 dollars. Their metal cookie cutters are 1.29 each, where as Sur La Table has it for an even dollar. (Of course, I think in the cookie cutter case, paying an extra thirty cents to a local establishment is worth it.) That said, they have all kinds of stuff that you probably can’t find elsewhere, like several varieties of sanding sugar, luster dust, flower nails, andmassive quantities of fondant. The food coloring and icing decorations seem to be comparable to and in some cases cheaper than Michael’s prices. They have pastry/cake boxes in a ton of sizes, but with few exceptions, white is the only color choice you have. However, they’re very reasonably priced. Dare I say cheap? Definitely better than Michael’s on this front, too. They also have a ton of flavorings that you definitely couldn’t find at a regular grocery store, Whole Foods, or Michael’s. They’re pretty cheap, so it’s tempting to experiment. If you’re wondering wtf to do with all of those oils, then go to and check out their candy recipes. Finally, it is the only store in southwest/central Houston where I’ve been able to find removable bottom baking pans(not spring-form!). The one I wanted though was $ 34.99 there, and only 22 dollars on . So I passed. FYI: They’re closing on Dec 19th thru Jan 4th for their holiday break.

Whether you’re a professional baker or just a baking hobbyist, you should make a trip into SW Houston to Make-a-Cake! I’m currently trying to get little cupcake business off the ground and have been looking for inexpensive supplies such as bakery boxes, flavorings, decorations, etc… As soon as I walked into this shop, I was like a child in a candy store! The store itself is decent sized but it you’ll be surprised at how much it can fit with baking goodies! The owner was in the shop covering lunch breaks for his staff and was EXTREMELY helpful to me and the other customers. He was a delight to talk to about how the company came to be. It’s so nice to see small businesses thrive in Houston! I was so happy to see how much inventory they had! Just a short list of what you can find here: –Royal Icings, fondant, gum paste –flavorings and food coloring –pans –boxes and boards –molds, tools, liners, and cutters –pastry bags and tips –books –cake top decorations, edible and non-edible! They also have cake classes in their classroom with professional cake decorators and bakers… check out their website for calendar listings. Oh and Make-A-Cake is open Tuesday through Friday from 10am to 6pm, and Saturday from 10am to 4pm. I will surely be visiting this shop my little business grows!
