Found myself here on a last minute football watching search. Don’t think I would have made my way otherwise. The previous negative reviews were pretty spot on. The service wasn’t that great. I didn’t expect much when I walked in, I’ve been to dives and sports bars before, but it was the little things that bothered me. I walked up to the bar, noticed the bartender was busy so I waited, didn’t intrude. I made eye contact. Then I waited some more. Then she made eye contact again. And I waited. Then I watched her leave the bar and walk over to tables to take their order… not mine. On a separate occasion I walked up as she was pouring a round of drinks for someone else, she lined them up and got them ready to take to a table. Then she asked what I would like, I ordered, and instead of pouring me a new beer… she grabbed one from the bunch that had been sitting on the bar end for a few minutes… um… thank you? Wouldn’t purposefully go back, but if I’m in the area, the football game specials are worth it.

Went on a steak special Tuesday night 14.50 for a big steak with mash potatoes and a salad. Great price for the size and it was cooked medium well as ordered the only complaint I have is cigarette smoke but I sat outside so I guess that’s on me.

Stopped by a few times but am no means a regular at this establishment. Few key points: Good Happy hour, decent prices, nice atmosphere, good spot for sports fans. How ever this place can get a little crowded, not so great parking, and customer service could be better.

Me likey me likey. I finally found a Tuesday ribeye night establishment for my likes and I found it here. It’s $ 16, it’s more marbled than the other place I visited yesterday and it’s $ 2 well drink night on Tuesdays and best of all… it wasn’t crowded when I was here from 6:30 pm till about 8:30 p m. I’ve been to the one down 290 and I hear there are more but this here is nestled somewhere in the«heights» as they say but I don’t feel like I’m in the heights when I’m down the road but this might be the same one they’re referring too. The mixture of music as well as a lot of 80’s and 70’s music would make a mid aged person feel at home as well as the stellar service received from the waitress who I wished I would have remembered her name. I’ll be back to this spot and hopefully nothing will change, but you know how that goes sometimes. Parking is on gravel and a little sketchy so don’t leave valuables visible in your vehicle and be vigilant when walking back out. — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — – The above paragraph was the review I had in the workshop ready to edit and finish up but this was a few months ago. Forward to the mid part of October and I ran into a completely different experience. That savory steak I had before was now just a tad on the chewy side, still flavorful but in the $ 12 range instead of the $ 14, no biggy. The $ 2 wells are still till 7 pm. The deal killer was the huge change in service that I noticed since the last visit. Last visit I had the most lively, well informed and enthused waitress I have seen in a bit along with another co worker of hers that shared the same work ethnic. I don’t know what happaned, I almost had to go back outside to make sure I made it to the right restaurant. Everything went ok from the parking lot till the time we came in and sat at a table. That is when disaster started. Me: Hello, do you still have any happy hour specials going on right now? Wanky Waitress: We have just $ 2 lonestar and something something(I forgot other choices she said). Me: Ok, last time I was here there was a $ 2 well shot special, is that still available? WW: Oh we have that but it’s only till 7Pm(It was about 6:45pm at this time and she could have told us this) Me: Ok, I see that you have a good selection of beer on tap, what do you have today? WW: Well, I don’t know, it’s over there(she points to bar), they change every day. Me: Ok(as I look at my partner Carol with en E in crime) do you have maybe a drink or bar menu that could hint what you have on tap or do we need to walk up to the bar? WW: We don’t have a beer menu but if you could tell me what you like I can get it for you(Ok, I was expecting maybe… something you wrote down at the beginning of your shift so you could let the customers know SOME of what is available? I guess not). Me: Ok, we’ll take two doubles, two of the Ribeye steaks and could I get the fried mushrooms like I had last time? They were delicious! ============== They didn’t have the mushrooms anymore so I missed out. While we were amused at the way changed verses what I told Carol with an E about my last time here we noticed our food coming out of the kitchen and another waiter trying to intercept our food from the«expeditor» to take it to his table. WW intercepted him and told him that it was for her table(all of this in front of us of course), she won. As you can see, there is no kind of control from the kitchen to the front on who’s food is who’s so if you ordered the Chicken fried Chicken and possibly get the Chicken Salad don’t say you werent’ warned. There was no team spirit or happiness here like before, what happened? The interior was the same but the music… blah…aky poo poo! WTH are they playing? Oh man… shoot me already. I can’t explain what it was, just not my type to listen too but some 80’s songs thrown in after 5 of these were played. This place definately supports continued education since between«serving» the customers one could go back to a «side table» and finish the math homework. I can understand and appreciate the enthusiasm to finish schooling but… CANWEGETFREAKINGREFILLSONOURDRINKSFIRST??? I’m sorry folks, this strayed away from my usual self trying to inform you on all of the ambiance set mixed in with the food, service, pricing and worth factor to come back but this time I was anxious to entertain you on the downside of what happened here and hope that on my next visit, things can parallel my first visit. As I look at Alfred G’s review it looks like we’re on a down trend here for a while. Have a great day folks and don’t forget to Unilocal it up!

oh good lord. No. just, no. Went with Eddie S for«Steak Night»… Ok. there was Steak… One star for the cool drive our GPS sent us on to get there last night. Yeah, if that doesn’t tell you something… Another star because the steak had flavor. That’s all i have to say about that. Rolled in. Looks like a cool little place. Gravel parking lot. Where do we park? i always freak about these kinds of things, Eddie S. had us covered. We stroll in. Pick a table. Apparently it’s covered with beer signs. We actually thought they were place mats, but the waitress offered to move them for us, before floating off to nowhere, and we decided to relocate ourselves. We sit. We wait. Waitress floats around… Still coming nowhere towards us. Finally she graces us with her presence. What are the specials. Lone star long necks for $ 2. Then a blank stare. Eddie says: last time there were $ 2SHOTS. No that has changed. Ok… He asks: wells? «Oh yeah, that too, til 7» Um. Ok. Wtf? Didn’t we just ask you about the specials? Why didn’t you mention that? Clueless waitress stares at us all Clueless like, as we hurriedly order double whiskey and cokes. Cause we have 2 minutes til 7. K, great. Go get them for us. We twiddle our thumbs… Then we have to wait to ask if it’s still steak night, because clueless waitress is clueless. Yeah, it’s steak night. Great. Wait! Can we put in a couple of happy hour drinks first because it’s the last second and you have totally ignored us!!! uh? no?! seriously? No? ok you suck clueless waitress, you suck! ok so: Ribeye, mashed potatoes and a salad. Eddie wants the fried mushrooms he got in lieu of the salad, that he got last time. Nope. That’s changed. Whatta ya know?! The only thing clueless waitress is good at saying is «that’s changed!» At one point in the evening i asked her for a menu. «no. we don’t have menu’s.» k… Is there a drink menu? «no.» is there a beer menu? «no, we don’t have that, because it changes so often.» *i later wander to the bar to find, at least, 25 beer taps installed… really?!! I, mean, REALLY??? These aren’t written down somewhere!!! «no beer menu» my ass. Clueless waitress is just clueless. i hate her. Clearly clueless waitress was more interested in doing her calculus homework than doing her job. *i actually verified this y’all. she was truly doing her calculus h.w. Which, get yo education on! But don’t suck at your part time job whilst doing so, ok? So, yeah, steak was well seasoned, and cooked to specification… Not necessarily $ 14 bucks worth of quality… salad was a basic salad and potatoes were instant — yeah, i can tell. Lucky’s may be a good place to get drinks… if you don’t have to bother with«clueless waitress» but skip it for steak night! I would have rather gone to Texas Roadhouse!!! Mmmmhhhmmm, rolls and Cinnamon butter! i think i might have even mentioned it over the 45 min. drive into«town». /blah! Whateves. SAVEYOURSELFPEEPS!

This place is near the house so I go. Last time I was there for some reason it was a bit«blue collar». Then some guy started to play some Tejano songs ??? And they allowed some guy to sell artwork in there ??? Still it is near the house and the Miller lite draft is always cold.

Came during steak night and had their 14oz ribeye steak. The steak was really juicy and had a good amount of fat. It was seasoned pretty well and cooked how I like it. It came with a side of mash potatoes and a salad. The mash potatoes were bland and It tasted like a potato mix powder you add water to. Definitely could have used gravy. A salad’s a salad. Overall experience was good and the food and drinks came out at a reasonable time.

This bar is a health hazard. I a sports fan living nearby, so I keep giving Lucky’s 2nd chances, but nothing seems to change. Tables are consistently sticky, they place new food orders touching old food plates, and food is frequently carried around for several minutes while talking to other waitresses/customers instead of going directly to the table. During my last visit a friend refused to eat due to a waitresses hair touching his food, and I ended up with food poisoning. He made the right call. Being a sports bar doesn’t necessitate a lack of sanitation!

Went here for my 25th birthday. Had a group up about 25 people, and we all absolutely loved this place! We had a blast! Staff is awesome, plenty of tv’s for all the games(we were here for final four). They play good music, and the food was AWESOME! I had the BBQ chicken pizza, and I highly recommend it!

The prices are good but there is extremely too much rap music. It would be great to have more variety. I have enjoyed this place in the past and have returned, but I am not into the rap and may not be back because of this.

This is my first visit to Luckys, came to watch the Broncos game. Good food, Leah was awesome and has handled an obnoxious patron with ease(I would have pushed the customer out long ago except she’s bigger than me :) but yes, Leah and staff are awesome. Since I’m new to Houston, still tying to find myself around but I’ll be back to Luckys.

It was my first time to dine at Lucky’s and I wasn’t impressed. My cousin chose this place for her bday lunch. The wait for food was forever, the server never mentioned any specials and we were offered a game day menu that seemed limited. The server dropped food on me and mentioned she had not waited tables in like five years. I was excited to try the place but after that experience I prob won’t go back.

Dive type bar with lots of TVs and patio space. They were understaffed but the bartenders did their best and were still friendly. Thought the drinks were a little pricey for game day specials but was there to watch the Ohio state game. Wings and chicken nachos were surprisingly good!

How is it that I have never been here before, it’s about 2 miles from the case, and away from some of the riff raft of Washington Ave. One of the things I love about Houston, your next new favorite hang out is right around the corner. For Rodeo, we caught the Wave from Lucky’s and decided to stop in early for a cocktail. The place is actually pretty darn big, the parking is kind of a pain, you have to park across the street in a muddy lot. It has two levels with a huge outdoor area, and nice patio on the first floor that is dog friendly. The food looked good, and the drinks were priced right, each night they have specials, and $ 5 drinks. Service was quick, and there is variety of characters to people watch. They also do charity gold tournaments, chili cook offs, and other seasonal thingies. Come patio season, I will def. be back!

A big improvement over the previous Distillery. Staff is friendly and food is good(Sandwiches and Pizzas are my faves), excellent variety of beer with lots of local flavors represented, many specials as well. Service at the bar is excellent, but it can drop off if your sitting away from it. They do a good job of getting the game you want to see on one of the many TVs. Good addition to the area.

Excuse me as I go down memory lane. King Biscuit is long closed, which was one of the best pub grub and music spots in town. Obviously not in this spot, but just on the other side of the block. Then the mess that was Distillery 2520 tried to take up the rains in this spot. They took Tuesday and Wednesday jazz jams, which was amazing at King Biscuit, while some of the same players were here, it just did not have the same feel. Let alone the crowds at KB. Distillery closed, and this sports bar soon opened. With the first location downtown, that I really can not stand, I was surprised that I actually liked this spot. Enough of the faux history and memory lane. This is the only other real sports bar in the Heights. Considering everything else, and that I am not a huge sports bar fan, again I am amazed I enjoy the place for what it is. A granite top bar with a wide open seating area with a few outdoor areas. This is a «guys» pub with with the typical food menu, and TV’s in every direction. Bar service is spot one, table service is really slow. Kitchen times are beyond slow, but at least the food comes out hot. Food menu is apps, wings, burgers, sandwiches, and pizzas. The who’s who of the man menu. Which is fine, actually not half bad. Plenty of beer. Lots of crap taps, faux craft and whatever the big three try to push. Saint Arnold and Karbach are well represented, which makes sense cause Silver Eagle distributes most of their beers and AB-Inbev as well. When all is said and done, just a nice sports bar, if that is your thing. Not really the type of place I hang out at a lot, but when the time calls to watch a game, this is not a bad spot. Though the quality of the food and everything else is obvious when compared some of my other favorite Heights hang outs like D&T.

I had been to this venue when it was Distillery and never had a problem. Granted, I was always there during slow times so maybe I didn’t encounter the service issues that other posters have noted. This recent trip to the slightly revamped Lucky’s was no different. The place itself is pretty standard. They have a good sized patio with a pass through bar, tv’s inside, a room upstairs(available for parties) with a small pool table, etc. Bathrooms were well kept upstairs. We went to grab a bite early on a Saturday(looking for a taco truck that wasn’t there) and enjoyed an afternoon on the patio. Cheesesteak was pretty decent, the pizza was, pizza. The best things we ate were the chips that came with the cheesesteak! They were just the right thickness of super crispy potato. At the waitress’ suggestion we tried them with some red wine vinegar and sea salt, which was awesome. The weather was perfect, our waitress was friendly and attentive and the music was just the right volume to allow conversation while jamming out to songs no one has heard in 20 years — Tribe Called Quest anyone?
