Xavier makes the best Old Fashion and Moscow Mules. I’ve been here twice in my 3 week stint since moving to Houston. He is an artist that has found his craft. All of his drinks are made with the same attention to detail and scrutiny for the best ingredients that any of the finest bars in San Francisco would fight for. I will be coming back repeatedly and definitely recommending this to friends. Try the Diablo and come on Wednesdays. There may be gourmet chicken tacos marinated in spinach, cilantro, caramelized jalapeños, lime, and bell peppers. He could also have a cult following if he had a specialty taco truck!

What a great little place to meet people… and then meet them again. :) It’s sort of like the ultimate neighborhood bar with familiar faces. Great bartenders, nice little patio out front, and a great jukebox for music selection.

I’ve been going to this place for years, and I love it. The crowd and the atmosphere are laid back. Sometimes they have wine, drink, and shot specials. Good times!

This is a place to check out if you just wait to lay back, have cheap drinks and enjoy a good time with your friends or company. The environment is is very casual and relaxed. The inside is cozy and eclectic! Plenty of areas for sitting and lounging. The patio offers a quiet area to just relax and have a good conversation with your company. They do have a full service bar and large area for sitting. The prices are great! Cheap, cheap, cheap! The staff is friendly and pretty quick on their feet. As anywhere in midtown, parking is a nightmare, but one can’t blame them for that. I will be coming back to get a second wind of this cozy place.

This little spot is a cozy place to just relax and enjoy some drinks. I thought the warm feel of the relaxed environment is perfect to start the night with friends. There is nice patio area to sit and relax while you enjoy the company of your loved ones or friends. The prices on drinks are great, not bad at all. The staff was friendly but the bartender that attended me had an attitude problem. It may have been a bad day for her but other than that I had a great time. I will be coming to visit this cute small cozy bar again.

What a great little pub! The staff is genuinely nice and the services is incredible! I always see people there on Wednesday but I went last night(Tuesday) and it was also pretty full. The jukebox is full of great tunes and there is a wide variety arrange of folks that choose to come out to this pub. I had a great time and will be back again!

Can’t believe I have never written a review of this place. Absolute hidden gem. My husband & I took my girlfriend here for her Birthday. He & I have been several times. She loved it ! We were out on a «School Night» so there was no crowd. The Bartender was very very attentive & even played some Jazz at our request. Drinks were great & reasonably priced. I love the ambiance & they have done a few upgrades since our last visit. I look forward to hanging out here more in the Spring.

I used to like this pub, but for the last 2yrs, EVERY time i go inside… they have loud dance music blasting away. Bartenders have always been great, drinks are strong… but it’s a renovated old house with night club music. After 2yrs and over 10 visits, i’m going to have to finally write it off.

It’s sad, really. Komodo’s used to be a great place to hang out. Laid back, good service, and a fun jukebox. I recently went with a group of friends looking for a low key evening around 9pm, early by Friday night standards. After about 10 minutes, a group of people came in and began to play all rap music. And not the fun, «I’ve heard this on the radio» type. Everyone has a right to their own taste in music, but it’s always nice to mix it up a bit and be considerate of other people around you. Okay, everybody gets their turn, so we waited around thinking the music would get better, but no. We tried to play a few songs to break up the all rap playlist that had taken over, but kept getting our choices bumped by group playing rap. Really kills the chill vibe of what was formerly a Midtown institution and a haven from the typical Midtown bar. On top of that, several patrons planted themselves in the open front doorway on the porch and proceeded to smoke, allowing all of the smoke to waft inside the bar. I understand some people are still upset about having to smoke outside, but come on, how long has it been now since Houston passed that law? None of the employees stepped in to intervene. These may seem like trivial issues, and I would usually tend to agree with you. But it just seems like such a change from the place I considered Komodo’s to be. It was enough for us to finish our one round of drinks in a hurry, and move on for the evening. On the plus side, the female bartender gave us good service, so at least there’s that. But we won’t be back, with so many other options in the Midtown area, we’ll be on the lookout for a bit more welcoming and relaxing atmosphere.

This is a house masquerating as a bar. It looks like a local house that is hosting a party inside. Centralized bar with seating throughout. Good bartenders who can make drinks. Near a lot of other bars. Parking can be challenging. This place is where frat dudes and really drunk types go. If you aren’t in the mood for the obnoxious crowd, this is not your place. But if you’re looking to rage one night, this is a great spot to start. Or end. Either way, it’s a relaxed spot for drinks and people watching.

Cozy house pub that makes you feel like you’re in a warm log cabin in the heart of the winter(not sure why, perhaps the décor?). Either way, they only sell drinks here(food is served only on limited days), with a bar area and little rooms with additional seating. Best thing about this place is their great prices! Especially during their happy hours /specials. Great place to come for some pregame or just to hang out by the fireplace with some friends.

Komodo is one of my favorite chill bars in Midtown. Who can beat $ 1 jello shots and potent drinks? I love hanging out in the kitchen area and christening Komodo first-timers with a Nuclear Rainbow. I think this is the perfect place to spend a low-key night. Bring some cards or Cards Against Humanity and hang out with 3 – 20 of your closest friends. Yesterday, I went up to the bar and they ran out of jello shots(sad face). I spoke to the bartender and asked for a comparable shot and he suggested the white gummi bear. It tasted exactly like a gummi bear! It was $ 5.50, but it was also a three gulp shot. It was really delicious and highly recommended. It’s the kind of place that you can have a real conversation and get hammered drunk. They have a great porch area and plenty of outside seating. My one qualm is that the jukebox when left unattended can play music that may be out of character for the bar. Sometimes when the jukebox is attended to it still plays weird music, but I guess that’s the nature of a jukebox.

OMG… I love this place… so much that I’m scared to write a 5 star review for fear that too many people will found out about this gem! A complete 180 from the rest of the midtown area that surrounds it, Komodo is a relaxed bar that is welcoming and a perfect place to relax and chat with friends. Probably also a good get to know your date spot. Its a lot like most of the bars in Montrose but with less of the dreaded try-to-hard hipster vibe that’s common to places like Poison Girl. The layout is like a house with tons of indoor and outdoor seating. The décor is random, tons of comfy couches and each time i’ve been there the music is completely different. Unpredictable yet fun. Most people tend to stick with their crowd and this isn’t really a super social hotspot./pickup type of place. It is a casual atmosphere and somewhere you’d want to bring your friends. There is parking in their lot and usually available street parking before 7pm on weeknights around the Camden City Centre area. Pro Tip: Wine-down Wednesdays are awesome! 10 flights, $ 5 glasses and $ 2.75 wells during happy hour(although I’m not sure if that’s every day happy hour or just that day) and they serve the tastiest free appetizers. Whoever is cooking knows what they are doing. I’ve gone two Wednesdays in a row and am sad that I did not go last Wednesday :(

Cool little bar in an old house surrounded by gentrified Midtown. Prices are low for the area and usually has a relaxed crowd. Good place if you’re looking for a cozy regulars style bar where you can focus on the heavy drinking you want to do by yourself or with a small group of friends.

This place is hit or miss. It is either a 1 star place: if that chubby, hipster, LMFAO wanna-be-bartender who is more worried about dancing and being ironic than actually serving you a drink and when he does he short pours your tall drink and charges you for a double. I used to be a bartender and when you do a three count, it is ¾ of an ounce. The bare miniumum for a single drink is a four count, or once ounce pour. Sadly so many Houston bartenders are pre-tenders and unless you say tall single, they assume you want a tall double. Tall means more mixer, get it right people. The five star nights are when it is basically any of the other bartenders I have ever had here: Will is especially great and always super nice. The ambiance is dive-y, but classy. It is always a chill night here with a great vibe.

Like my favorite hookah bar in Colorado Springs, I treasure non-house things that are housed in well, houses. It reminds me of living in a frathouse long long ago with the pool table, beer bottles and koozies(and floozies) everywhere. Komodo speaks to part of that sensibility, but manages to ditch the obnoxious fratboys and run a more muted, laid back operation that is surprising to find in the middle of Midtown shenanigans. Consistency, no true offensive total-drunks situations here, and a pretty laid back(like Agora years and years ago) atmosphere means I would feel comfortable taking a client here for a drink or having family from out of town stop by for a drink.
