Tried the brisket fries and kickers(their version of a hot dog). Loved the kickers hot dog, and the fries were tasty, although not special. But is did make for great bar food, and since I was a bar I was very happy with my meal.

I first discovered Kickers BBQ at the Haute Wheels Food Truck Festival. It was in our top 3 favorite trucks at the festival(the others being H-town StrEATs and MMM Cupcake). We tried the Brisket Fries and were hooked. Fresh cut fries topped with cheese, brisket with their homemade sauce, a dollop of sour cream, and sliced pickled jalapenos. DEEE-licious! We have gone to visit the truck twice since and have also tried the Kicker dogs, Avocado eggrolls, and pulled pork sandwich. The dogs are perfection. Dogs with cheese and jalapenos wrapped in corn tortillas and fried, served with fresh salsa and sour cream. The tortillas get crisp and the cheese is all melty, gooey goodness. So much better than a regular hot dog! The avocado egg rolls are great as well and have so much more avocado in them than the ones served in restaurants. The pulled pork is actually the best pulled pork I have ever had. They bake their own buns and make their own sauce that is spicy and tangy at the same time. I chose to get the slaw on the sandwich instead of just onion and pickles. Best.decision.ever! The tangy, crispy slaw on top of the spicy, smoky pork and toasted buns were a perfect match! If you don’t eat the sandwich right away though, the bottom bun can get a little soggy because the pulled pork is so juicy. Next trip I am going for the boudin eggrolls!

Wow! That is some tasty BBQ sauce! I have never hear of Kicker BBQ food truck and I guess there is a good reason for that — they have only been open a month in Houston. However, after speaking to the folks operating the truck, they have been in Baton Rouge for a few years and recently decided to pursue the Houston market. It makes sense too, as they offer both brisket and pulled pork — Louisiana is close enough to Texas to get that BBQ beef influence as well as having that traditional southern BBQ influence using pulled pork. I decided to go with their suggestion which was the BBQ fries. The question was, should I have them topped with brisket or pork. I decided on the brisket, but I think I would have had a better experience with the pork. The brisket was a little dry on its own and didn’t have a smoky flavor. That was disappointing, but I was really impressed with the flavor of the fires and the BBQ sauce. The fries were traditional thin cut and had an great potato flavor — I could tell they were fresh cut for sure. The sauce was some of the best I have tasted — sweet, spicy and smoky. It wasn’t a thin sauce either and it coated the fires well. They also top the fries with a little sour cream, which cools down the spicy sauce nicely. As I mentioned, the brisket wasn’t my favorite but overall the fries worked. I suspect the pork will be a little better. Also, it is worth noting that the staff was very nice and helpful.
